LIVE HERE IF YOU LOVE MOLD!! If you have health conditions or mold allergies, or if you are perfectly healthy stay away from this place. Living here was a nightmare. And unfortunately took a year plus away from living a normal life. My partner and I were exposed to mold that caused constant headaches, congestion, random illnesses, and breathing difficulties--the list goes on. I repeatedly contacted the office about my concerns, but they completely disregarded them. The only solution they offered was to clean the air ducts for "mildew." Shortly after the ducts were cleaned, our symptoms became much worse, likely because the mold was spread throughout the apartment. We eventually had to contact corporate and explain what was happening, including that I have pre-existing health conditions. Corporate said a professional mold tester would be sent to the apartment. After the testing, the property manager emailed me stating that there was mold growth, but claimed it was "normal." When I asked her to attach the actual test results, she sent another email stating the conclusion showed no mold growth at all. These were two completely contradictory statements. The results themselves showed elevated levels of Aspergillus/Penicillium and the presence of multiple mold types that were not found outdoors, which was used as the control. Despite this, management insisted the mold levels were "not elevated." And It was mostly in the bathroom connected to the bedroom where I sleep and spend half of the day there!! This experience was incredibly frustrating, misleading, and harmful to our health. If you value your well-being--especially if you have allergies or respiratory issues. I strongly recommend staying far away!! Even 9 months out of the moldy apartment I lived in, I am still fighting with health issues. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Living here was disgusting. On the other note THIS APARTMENT IS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE TO BE LIVING IN THESE CONDITION!! Go save money, time and your health by choosing another apartment. UPDATE TO SYNC'S DUMBASS RESPONSE: They are really gonna reply back saying that there was NO mold growth. Look at those disgusting pictures of MOLD in our apartment. And I guess all of my health problems I'm just making up . THE COMPANY THAT CAME TO DO THE MOLD TEST WAS HIRED BY SYNC. So if you have the same problems. GET YOUR OWN MOLD TESTER. They also keep saying that the testers tested NO mold and that's not what the tests or results say. The results say that the mold levels aren't elevated. Which for a normal person you might not feel the effects as much. But I have health issues that they never seemed to care about and made no difference to them. They would not let us resign on our lease the only option was to move to another moldy unit. AGIAN DON'T MOVE HERE. GO LOOK AT ALL THE REVIEWS CALLING THEM FRAUDULENT!!! read more

Lived at the SYNC SMTX for a year now, glad I chose it. Especially the staff are personable and professional, any questions or issues are taken seriously and addressed promptly. That is how to run a business. And now just around the corner is an Indian food truck, a great bookstore, coffee shops and restaurants. Me and my family had to live with a mold infestation during the 2022 winter (apt 1103, building 1). The manager Jake and supervisor of maintenance were not supported by corporate, Sync Residential, and we're told to just dehumidify the place and tell me I was the problem for keeping my home too hot ( mind you it was 20 degree cold weather). I actually forgave and moved on and just kept cleaning it up till winter was over (and it's not management's fault at Purgatory, it's corporates fault!), but I got screwed again at sync kingsland Ranch in Katy, TX, where the manager, Bertha at that property FRAUDULENTLY charged me $144 for an old microwave that I never used and my husband used maybe twice! I hope Jake and Vanessa do not use that tactic that Bertha at Kingsland Ranch does because that would be heartbreaking! So, Sync residential is removing ALL of my reviews on Google and trying to hide how FRAUDULENT their corporation is. read more

Sync @ Purgatory Creek is the best apartment complex in San Marcos. The people here work hard to keep this complex operating as good as it looks. One of only Two apartments in San Marcos, with a hot tub. (Don't go to McCarty) .. Lots of wildlife, lots of hiking, lots of amenities, & everyone here is respectful of others. It's a community at Sync Purgatory Creek. Any work orders put in are done the day of or the day scheduled. They're mindful of how much you pay a month and are determined to keep you satisfied & comfortable by any means necessary. read more

I lived here for 7 months and it was absolutely fantastic, all of the amenities were stunning, the maintenance and leasing office staff are so nice and helpful. Update on the updated review- 1 year later (total residency 3 years) Gates are still broken most all the time- stay open all night. More college students have moved in - more affordable if they have a roommate I suppose. Summer 2022, began the rapid decline of my entire 3 years. For nearly 7 months now a small crew of painters have been repainting THE ENTIRE COMPLEX! You would think this would be great- but not when they lack efficiency and work about as well as the gates do. 1 week for a balcony paint, turned into 3 weeks- then 5 months later they're back and management wants your patio cleared off again so they can "repaint". They leave their trash EVERYWHERE! The residents being who they are now less friendly- do not reciprocate hellos, leave their dog poo, park over two parking spaces and their trash bags out for four or more days during holidays. Really - I could tell quite a few stories after 3 years but you'll choose based on what works for you. This place worked for me about 2 years of the 3. I'm sure management will change again - just as they all do. The one thing I can control I am doing - sharing my experience and moving. To end this segment of my life at SYNC- i am moving for my job "thank the lord". I leave you with this- if you're a college student and it's affordable (mind you it will likely go up since this stellar paint job) by all means move in. If you're a business professional and you do some work from home - be cautious. Also- for anyone- read the fine print... NOTHING is as good as it seems and all photos can be staged. This review is on the basis of living in this apartment complex for almost 2 years (1yr 11mo). The complex itself is beautiful; it has the looks of a modern apartment complex like in Irvine, Ca (look it up). The grounds are well kept and the common areas that include the amenities are equally just as nice. There are deer right outside the complex at the creek and also miles of hiking across the street. I think where the complex falls short is the upkeep of the grassy areas. Although it is not the complex's responsibility to pick up animal feces, there are plenty of times where I've walked by patches of grass that has dog poops and no doggy poop bags at the clean up station (at least this complex provides bags, so that's a plus!). I've lived in two different apartment sizes thus far, 1 br 1ba the 700+ square ft and the 640+ square ft and really it's up to your liking on how much you want to pay. Do note though for a nicer view of the lake, stained concrete floors (great for pets), first floor luxuries, bigger sqft. etc., you will have to pay a tad bit more, but really you get what you pay for. The community and residents itself is a good mix. I like the fact that there is diversity here (college kids, young professionals, and working adults). That can also be a con, because although it is a luxury apartment complex, there are college kids who cause a ruckus from time to time and I have filed a few complaints to the office regarding that. Other than that, the social events that the leasing office provides provides a good opportunity to commingle and get to know your neighbors. Lastly, I'd like to mention that the front office staff are simply amazing. Having lived here for a while, you get to know them and how sincere they are about addressing your needs. They are a small staff and sometimes it can take a while to address your concerns, but when they do get to your concerns (and complaints), they seem fair at fixing the problem and they do have a nice follow up (phone call, email, text about satisfaction). Nothing but good to mention about the staff here at the complex. For the most part, this complex is meant for young professionals, and people who live in San Marcos but are not college students. Doesnt mean college kids cant live here, its just a little pricey for the students to live here on their own (this comment is in regards to the local "impact" newsletter and the reported mean salary wages and mean age range of the city). Really, if you are looking for a luxury apartment complex that has a good mix of people, above average amenities, and just far enough away from the college, I'd recommend this place. Condition of the property is deplorable. Sprinkler system has not worked in almost 2 years. Lawn maintenance is almost non-existent. Weeds are growing along curbs and curbs are never swept. Dead shrubs and trees are everywhere. Leaves that fell a year ago have never been cleaned up. Broken a/c parts litter the property. Many security lights on buildings are out. Security gates are often broken. It's apparent that the management never walks the property. read more

Fantastic place to live. Management and the maintenance group are unsurpassed in every area. The pools, hot tub, spa, etc. are kept in immaculate condition. We have been empty nesters for over 25 years, living most of that time in apartments because we travel frequently. SYNC has been by far, our best experience ever! read more

The people who work here are nice and helpful, and the buildings are pretty, but there are a few problems. The main one for me is that they allow renters to have multiple dogs, and they bark night and day! It seems like most renters are students, and they don't seem to be around for their animals much, and there doesn't seem to be any recourse at all when they leave their dogs alone. So if you like a quiet living environment, steer clear of this place!!! The other problem is that the building materials here are really cheap. The oven has zero insulation, so the whole thing (not just the inside!) gets hot. The garbage disposal clogs with lettuce. And the walls are pretty thin, so you can hear clearly from one room to the next (maybe this is why the barking is such a problem?) And if security is the reason you choose this complex, be forewarned that the main gate is broken about as often as it works, and the side gates for pedestrians are never locked. I love Elysian, this has been my favorite apartment community I have lived in. We moved out due to work relocation. So many good things to say. Here are the highlights: -awesome management and maintenance staff, always super helpful and polite. -gorgeous pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room. -apartments are large and well constructed so you can't hear your neighbors. -reasonable pricing for all that you get. (Where we relocated to is way more expensive and has zero amenities). - extremely fair with move out costs. We got almost all of our deposit back which as you know if you have rented before, is a rarity. If we come back to Texas we would definitely rent here again. Thanks elysian!!! read more

I've lived here for three years and the biggest issue is that The New management "greystar" has completely changed the once 5 star Community into a horribly managed complex . Ex.2The manager Rorie has no respect for anyone that looks the least bit young , I do not party , I came here to get away from the party scene . The first moment I met her she began to Talk down to me with a smile on her face. I am not alone she does this to everyone including her employees. Ex.3 There is never any water in the gym not to mention the water fountain hasn't worked in a year. The gym equipment has literally almost killed multiple people due to its lack of maintenance even after multiple residents have complained for over a year about it nothing has been done. Ex. 4 the steam room literally smells like urine on a daily basis due to no one cleaning it ever, the hot tub is the same. Ex.5 the maintenance does not come to fix work orders until a week or two later. I'm usually not one to complain but if your wanting to move here do not expect to get the best experience from the current staff , like I said they have ruined Purgatory creek apartments . read more

I've lived here for almost three years and I love it! What I fell in love with was the location and modern layout. I don't know much about management because my husband deals with them, but I've never heard him complain. Pros: NO bugs, safe environment, excellent location (SUPER close to doctors, outlets, HEB, CVS, Petsmart), fantastic layout options, modern and clean. Living in an apartment was suppose to be a one year thing for us, but we love it so much, we keep renewing our lease. The only downfall is the already expensive rent increases each year :/ read more

I want to start off by saying I never leave reviews! This is my first review on Yelp if that tells you anything. I have lived at this apartment for three years and it has been the greatest place I have ever lived. I am moving out in 5 days and am actually pretty sad to leave! I am a mid twenty-something female who taught at the college and I ALWAYS felt safe and at home, here. All of my neighbors were very nice, the pool is beautiful, and the scenery is perfect for taking walks or walking your dog. The balcony is big and spacious with lots of trees and flowers around as well. The apartments are condo style so if you are on the second floor, there is no one above you! They are very well built and the walls are thick. There is crown molding in all of the rooms and the interior is very pretty. If you are a young professional or a college student looking to get out of student housing, please come tour this place! You will absolutely love it. If it was not for a new job I accepted, I would have stayed even longer. Literally zero complaints on my end. The BEST property in San Marcos, hands down! No other place compares. :) read more

Beautiful complex with attentive and compassionate staff. The office is full of very friendly and helpful people who are dedicated to making Purgatory Creek the best apartment complex in San Marcos. They really make living here a treat. The apartments themselves are lovely. The balconies are the absolute best thing - they are enormous and inviting. They really feel like an extension of your apartment as livable space. You've got room for several chairs and a low table as well as potted plants. Outdoor space is one of the biggest things for me and I really adore being on my patio. The grounds are well-kept and for the most part the people here are quiet and respectful. The amenities are great and I love being right by the green belt. Eventually there will be some roadwork done - adding a bike lane as well as a sidewalk all the way from this side of Hunter Rd. down to where San Antonio branches off, so that will make walking and cycling a lot easier than it is now. Still doable though, I ride my bike to HEB and downtown almost daily. The only thing I don't like about these apartments is the gas stove and oven - I know it's supposed to be fancy, but we had to relearn how to cook all over again, and we're still unsatisfied with using a gas oven. Things don't roast the way they did in a regular convection oven. Plus using the oven heats your apartment up like crazy. We've also switched out the kitchen light bulbs since the ones that come with the apartment really heat up the kitchen. Two things that, in the grand scheme of things, are small but worth noting. If you are considering PCA, I would definitely recommend them. They are certainly one of the most expensive complexes in San Marcos, but I find it to be a small price to pay for such a nice place to live. A place like this in any other big city would be at least twice as much. read more

These apartments are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Everything in the apartments is high-end; carpet, kitchen cabinets, countertops, etc. Leasing staff is always extremely helpful and maintenance is extremely competent. This is a dog friendly apartment complex and a large majority of the residents own dogs. Parking is rarely an issue and I have not seen/heard of any cases of vandalism or vehicles getting broken into. Like I started off the review, a little pricey, but you get what you pay for and Purgatory Creek is worth it. read more

This apartment complex is by far the nicest I have ever lived in! The amenities are incredible and the staff is always so kind and helpful! The only problem I have is that no one talks to each other. I've tried talking with my neighbors and they act like I'm crazy. In fear of having downstairs neighbors complain again I don't listen to my music much at all, which is a bummer. I commend Connie and her entire team for tackling things and effectively articulating our needs to Tarantino Property Management and Benchmark Lawn Care and Landscaping. The team here is trying their best and is doing a much better job communicating with the residents. It is Tarantino who needs to continue to heed, support and take immediate action to the overdue interior and exterior repair needs of the property AND then get after an aggressive preventative maintenance schedule to maintain well built property -- specifically continue to repair/replace damaged dead landscaping; clean up and repair from the flood damage from Oct '14; speed bumps to slow down excess speeds on the property; power washing of entryways and exteriors and restraining sealing of exposed rough hewn wood and tongue groove slat siding as examples. read more

I lived here close to two years ago. I forgot about this place until I received phone calls from my friends and family last week saying a DEBT COLLECTOR was calling for me! I was mortified and embarrassed! I knew I had paid my bill in full upon moving out so I called Elysium immediately. They acted like it was no big deal and requested that I send bank statements and proof of the final bill from TWO YEARS ago. After much searching I submitted both and the manager blamed the mistake on previous management. Not possible! Greystar was the previous management and the collections agency said Elysium had filed the paperwork. The apartment complex was not called Elysium under previous management. So, if they held onto my social security number to be able to file the claim then they definitely had my cell number/email. Had they just called me before giving my personal information to a collections agency they would of realized their error and saved me the embarrassment! A phone call would of been nice. Seriously!!! My advice to current and future residents: Keep copies of your final bill and proof of payment handy for years after moving out.... You just might need them! read more

The apartments are beautiful and the amenities are nice to have. The fitness center is not in great condition and is in need of some new equipment, or to at least have the equipment in there fixed. People do not clean up after their pets. The staff sends out emails, but nothing is done about it. There is dog poop everywhere. People SPEED through the parking lot, I have almost been ran over several times while out walking my dogs (and I stay off to the side to avoid traffic). The management staff is awful. They give their tenants attitude, sometimes you have to stand in the office for several minutes before someone even acknowledges you. There is no tracking system for the mail that comes in. If you even get a notification that you have a package, you will continue to receive that notification long after you pick it up. They don't even verify who you are when you go in to pick up a package, or even have you sign for it. Maintenance does a pretty good job. I've had a few work orders placed and they usually get to it within a few days, although sometimes it takes a bit longer and can be frustrating. I love my apartment, but will be moving out once our lease is up. read more

My fiancée and I moved in about 3 weeks ago. Elysian at Purgatory Creek is phenomenal. The staff is always extremely friendly and helpful. Since moving in we have realized how peaceful and quiet these apartments are. We also have 2 dogs and the whole complex is extremely dog friendly. I see people walking there pups all the time and it is easy to strike up conversations with your neighbors because of this. The apartments just have a very homey feeling to them. The amenities are great and are very well kept which is very important to me. The parking is also awesome because I always have multiple spots in front of my apartment at all times. Not crazy about trash valet (everyone's trash is always right in front of their door when you leave your apartment and it can end up smelling bad sometimes)but that's just me being picky. I have been a tenant of Purgatory Creek Apartments for 8 months and am very glad I chose to live here! The entire leasing staff and property management team Is awesome! As you can imagine things break or fail from time to time. As I have only had two challenges with any of the appliances here (mostly maintenance like replacing furnace filters which they take care of or water filter in the fridge or today the electronics brain went out on dishwasher.) I spoke with Tiffany the property manager and with-in minutes my dishwasher was fixed.. Justin the maintenance manager is always friendly and extremely knowledgeable so any fix usually is less than five minutes.. Recently Larry Peel the property owner was in for a team meeting.. I stopped by for a brief moment when Anna and Megan pulled me aside and personally introduced me to Mr. Peel.. That was a big deal for me as it made me feel apart of the community here. The grounds are meticulously maintained. The Pool has an extremely spacious deck with spectacular view of the pond is an excellent area to entertain.. They spared no expense on this feature, the hot tub (with water fall), duel hot and steam sauna's are high class along with the work out room! My apartment is on the first floor which has stained concrete floors.. They are beautiful, easy to maintain and are always very cool even on the hottest days!! (second floor units have carpet and third floor has a fireplace...very cool) The location is perfect! Less than a quarter mile from Hernandez elementary, Approximately 2 miles from TSU campus and easy on an off IH35 at a perfect half way point between Austin and San Antonio!!! The property is less than 5 minutes from great dinning, shopping and has miles of walking trails just across the street.. I am in Building 16 where the Purgatory Creek Green space is right out from our balcony. The view is amazing and everyday nature pays us a visit... Lots of birds and the deer are fun to watch too!! Most importantly.... Its Quiet!!!!! I am pleased that one of San Marcos Police Officers currently lives here and regularly patrols the complex... Even thought its a gated community it still gives me confidence. For anyone looking to relocate to this area I highly recommend Purgatory Creek! Its no wonder this complex won Travis counties #1 place to live!!!! read more

I really like living in this community. It is quiet and safe. There are a lot of students that live here but several older couples and families as well. It is beautiful and has several great amenities that are worth mentioning. The staff is usually very helpful and I have really enjoyed living here! Elysian is a great place to live in San Marcos! The apartments are so nice inside and have good size balconies. Parking is easy and always available- there is no assigned spots so it's nice for family and friends when they come over. We love the people in the office! Always so accommodating and eager to please you. The gym, pool, and sauna are a nice plus. Definitely recommend living here! read more
