After Hurricane Helene hit and flooded our home, my wife and I were in need of pro remediation fast. To their credit, Master Restoration was the first to call us back. Having gotten their name on recommendation, seeing their positive reviews, and verifying they were licensed and insured, we decided to hire them. Although their price was extremely high compared to competitors, we believed we would be getting thorough, premium service by a respected, established local company. How wrong we were. Right out of the gate, we were blindsided by their refusal to remove our glued-down engineered wood flooring. Apparently they only include easy-to-remove laminates and floating tile. No price adjustment to their flat rate was offered as compensation, leaving us to seek out another vendor for that, at additional expense. Once the contract was signed, we also discovered our main contact wouldn't return calls or texts unless prompted by his superiors, forcing us to repeatedly contact the main office to inquire about the schedule and project status. On two occasions, he did assure me that permits for the work were being secured through the city on our behalf. Next, we realized each phase of the project was apparently being farmed-out to unknown subcontractors, who performed substandard work without adequate supervision or any follow-up inspections by the company. They would show-up at our home without notice, forcing us to reschedule them at more appropriate times. No HEPA air scrubber was used during the process. They did the four-foot drywall cutout, but we later noticed some insulation was still left in place, as well as inconsistency with door and window frame removal. Kitchen cabinetry wasn't handled properly, with floor-to-ceiling sections cut in half, rather than removed at the crown. The plumber they hired didn't even have a part to cap the water line when disconnecting the fridge! The so-called "sanitization" phase would be laughable if it weren't so abysmal. Instead of checking to make sure the house water main was turned on, the team attempted to use a dribble of water from an open interior pipe to mop the floors. When that failed, they asked me if they could use the black contaminated water from our storm-damaged swimming pool! I refused, of course, and then they finally checked the water main and turned it on. Even with fresh water, the clean-up was nothing more than pushing a dirty mop around without any cleansers, resulting in cloudy, soiled floors still caked with drywall dust. Then came the "dry-out" phase--shamefully lacking in industry-standard protocol. One dehumidifier was brought in to cover 2500 sq ft, along with a handful of air movers. They were left in-place for five days, which we were led to believe would be more than adequate. Apparently not. When the team returned, they appeared to take a couple of moisture readings, which seemed to be below the 15% mark, as required. I watched as one team member fumbled with a moisture meter, pushing buttons until the reading looked good. I have since learned he may have been "fooling the meter", by choosing hardwood mode instead of the appropriate soft wood mode for the beams. Thirty days out, readings reveal the moisture is still far from gone, remaining saturated between 28-36% in certain places, leaving us at risk. Lastly, we were promised by contract a complete post-remediation report with photos to be furnished to FEMA and our insurance carrier. To date, we have not received the report, and Master Restoration has failed to respond to our queries about its status, as well as the status of the city permits or the PRV mold report required per their license. Now we are faced with the unpleasant prospect of paying EVEN MORE MONEY to another, more reputable company to complete the work. Do yourself a favor, and PASS ON MASTER RESTORATION!

We decided to take a chance, hiring them directly instead of using the insurer's company. They worked very closely with us for as long as it took, accommodating our scheduling and living needs and guiding us with friendly, professional attitudes as we made the many necessary decisions. Our mutual goal was to maintain the safety and the design integrity of our home. They were initially called in for emergency dry-out and demo. We had continuous bamboo hardwood flooring throughout the house, including the open-ended galley kitchen that connects the dining room and the family room. Our cabinets are the originals from this 1963 house, the interior walls are plaster and the exterior walls are stucco over concrete block. Although we were not able to find any more of the same flooring and had to switch to tile in the kitchen, they had the necessary skills to do everything inside and out, including rebuilding the interior of the damaged cabinets and filling in the stucco on the exterior wall where the leak was repaired. They went far beyond what we expected and we would definitely hire them again.

Response to our calls & texts were handled immediately. We couldn't ask for better service or care. All the permits and work was handled in a most professional manner with concern for us. Their mason did a fine job rebuilding our 2 destroyed walls. The crew that did all the stucco, painting, wood work and finish work were amazing and did above and beyond with detail. The only compliant was the electrician was a bit of an putz and needed to be supervised at all times by Patrick or Chris. Upon completion of our project there was not a single item on our punch list..... nothing!!! Our furniture and items were taken to a climate controlled storage and our bedroom furniture moved to the guest room... upon completion of the job everything was put back in place by their crew (Robert & James) in a most professional manner. I believed every word he said, but none of the things he told me that day were done. I had 8" of water in my home and was only supposed to have 1-2 feet of plaster removed. He walked in on demo day with $$ in his eyes and said, "Take 4 feet - insurance is paying for it." I should have objected, but I spent the day in tears, desperately trying to get the last of my stuff out as debris was flying. He never once discussed substantial damage with me. There was no plastic put over my TV, the stuff in my closets, the art on the wall. The demo team threw away one of my paintings because they thought they were supposed to throw everything away. They cut as high as 50" in my home - for 8" of water. The cuts are sloppy and inconsistent. They destroyed my windowsills, many electric boxes, and took all of the outlet covers- even the ones that were on outlets 5' high. I tolerated all of this until the day I got an invoice for $35K. My home is only 1120 square feet. My insurance company screamed fraud. I asked them to give me a minute to talk with Stephen. I told him I thought there was a mistake and pointed out items that were incorrect. He started by saying I did get a wrong invoice, then immediately threatened court. Then he complained to me about not making as much money as he was supposed to. Screenshots attached to display his professionalism, how little he cares about the person, and how much he cares about his wallet. He claims to be an experienced professional, but stated he knew nothing about Substantial Damage, he never pulled a permit or filed a notice of commencement as is required by law. Now he filed a claim of lien against my house for a dollar amount in excess of the invoiced amount. He is a selfish fraud. Save yourself and hire CDT - they will follow all the correct steps, and provide you with documentation of all the work they do along the way.
