I thought I had reviewed my awesome experience here but apparently, I forgot to press the button from my phone or something:) I went last week for the first time to a try-out class that I won spinning the lucky wheel (I am super lucky getting freebies!). The promoter explained all the classes offered and I checked my time availability, so decided to take a circuit class centered in legs and chest. Great coach, great attendees, all very smooth. Well-equipped gym, super clean, and amazingly smelling towels offered at the end of the class to get refreshed. I appreciate the opportunity to try this gym out, it feels super personalized, and I will take drop-in classes when visiting a good friend in OB. read more

This is an updated review during covid19. Around mid March 2020, Synergy was doing workouts only via Zoom--and the exercise really helped me during an otherwise dismal time when we were all adjusting to the "new normal." The coaches still kept us accountable--Sofie would still call me out and encourage me. Then around June 2020 we started doing limited indoor workouts (with individual stations in a 10x10 square with your own weights), temperature check upon arrival, masks worn coming in and leaving, only one person in the aisle, etc. Synergy continued to have workouts via Zoom. Then public health orders only allowed outdoor exercise, so we worked out at the park (and coach would bring weights and boombox for music). The park grass was sometimes wet from dew or rain or the sprinklers and was a little inconvenient. In the meantime, owner/coach Sofie created a roof top gym with artificial turf. She installed a spiral staircase that leads up to the roof. Eight separate stations are set up with our own equipment, but now you get a view high up with palm trees, the shops, and a little bit of the ocean (depending on which side you are standing). Each station has sunscreen and hand sanitizer. For a brief time, we had the option of working out indoors "downstairs", outdoors "upstairs", or virtually. As of this writing, only outdoor exercise is permissible so we're on the rooftop. It is a bit chilly on winter days but we're all getting fresh air. And it's great to exercise with Synergy! read more

It's been ~4 months since I joined Synergy... and it's seriously been a dream come true & exactly what I needed. I'm getting some of the BEST workouts of my life in Synergy's Powerhouse classes and have built an incredible amount of muscle and endurance thanks to the enthusiastic coaches & instructors here! AND I've made a ton of new friends along the way, which has been really special for me as someone who recently moved to San Diego! It's super easy to book classes every day using Synergy's mobile app, and you have a ~4hr window to cancel if you need to! THANK YOU Synergy for getting me into the best shape of my lifeeee! Where do I start?! Synergy is 12/10 for me. They have a beautiful, clean, modern gym with incredible coaches and admin. Everyone is welcoming, kind, and very supportive. The workouts are intense and effective. The coaches will walk around and give pointers for form and give you some motivation if you're struggling. All workouts start and end with a yoga stretch. They even have a beautiful rooftop deck where they host workouts and yoga on the weekends! If I can give this place more than 5 starts I would ! I'm from arizona ... went there first time by accident just walking by it ! I tried a class and got hooked !! Got a pack throughout my stay! It's been almost three months since I started Synergy and I couldn't be happier. Never imagine myself working out in a non-traditional gym. I was used to have lots of equipment, spend at least two hours at the gym and was not seeing results. After the combination of a pandemic, injury and surgery, I was so lost and had no idea where to begin with. The gym I was used to go was still closed, but I couldn't wait more so I decided to have a open mind and started researching alternatives and Synergy came highly recommended. I really love the owner, Sofie! She's got a welcoming and encouraging attitude. I went in for a month special and now I'm motivated to participate in their 7 week HERO challenge. What can I say, I love Synergy! I started coming here after trying several at home workout programs. As a busy stepmom of 3 and business owner I didn't think I had the time to workout at a gym. After almost a year at Synergy I make the time to go! The 45 minute classes are fun and the time goes by really quick. Alright, my heart is happy here for a number of reasons. Synergy in the heart of ocean beach has really dialed in there format, teachers, customer service, organization, and cleanliness (post covid). I've been practicing at studios all over for years. With an extensive background in this line of career I've accumulated an undying passion for it and along the years have grown to peculiar preferences and am extremely pleased with my personal experience here. I wanted a fitness routine that didn't require me to change what I eat (or drink) but still gave me results and this is exactly what Synergy provided! I've been going to Synergy for over a year and I've never felt stronger. More importantly, emotionally, Synergy provided a purpose and courage I needed to take time for myself. I am a stay-at-home mom with a toddler so I was very skeptical about being able to attend classes, but all the coaches were very accomodating and encouraging! I absolutely love that ALL their classes are also available virtually, on zoom, so you can take a class from anywhere! The coaches are great about providing modifications and even pay attention to you and correct your form virtually! They also have personal training you can add in if you want to work on something specific and meal plans if you are interested. Yes, Indie Yoga is my go-to for a mindful bendy morning, but you're not going to get the same results. You can buy a pair of sneakers and walk up and down Narragansett 100 times, but you're not going to get the same results. What results am I talking about? Strength. Community. Support. STRENGTH 45 minute classes. You can do ANYTHING for 45 minutes. It's over just as the endorphins are flooding through your body so you can leave sweaty, satisfied and accomplished. I'm proud to say my pushups about 8 weeks ago looked a lot more like I was trying to do the caterpillar dance... all wiggly and squiggly. Now, I'm holding planks without my belly button hitting the floor and squatting like it's my second job. Work outs are a combo of HIIT, Weights and Yoga to keep it interesting. Working your way around the gym to different stations keeps your mind focused and your muscles firing. With encouragement from the teachers and your classmates you'll do the few extra squats you wouldn't have done if you were on your own. COMMUNITY It's like Cheers (where everybody knows your name) but with more kettle balls and less Gentleman's Jack. Making friends with the class is easy, we're often grouped up, partnered up or just asking for someone to help peel you off the floor. You won't find that at a regular gym when you're taking selfies with your headphones on. But feel free to squeeze one in on your way out if that's your jam. Since many of the other gym goers live in OB, you're likely to run into them outside of class allowing you to bridge the gap between class and real life. I decided to join Synergy back in October 2018 because I wanted to change my fitness levels and have overall better health. I joined by accepting a 6-week challenge that was FREE, if you dropped 20lbs or 5% body fat. Well I ended up loosing 15.7 lbs and 5.7% body fat. I felt so encouraged by all the coaches (Sofia, Gabe, Kate, Noah, and Jasmine) there and never felt like I was just a client. Then I decided to join a 7-week Hero challenge. Every week there was an email sent out with a specific challenge that involved drinking more water, logging in the food I was eating, encouraging a friend to participate in a workout with me, personal year-long goals plan that was submitted to the coaches, and last but not least, 100 daily burpees (OMG that was hard). This challenge not only has made me stronger physically, but it has pushed me to find the deeper reason as to why one should take care of our bodies. I began to notice that every time I posted on social media that I was at the gym or my progress on this challenge, others began to notice and it encouraged them to want to begin eating a bit healthier or exercise a little more. That has been the most rewarding part of joining this challenge. While this challenge started as a means to achieve greater physical strength and have better health, it has been a vehicle to encourage my friends, coworkers, and family to improve their health and fitness. If anyone is reading this long review and wondering, why is this guys talking about physical fitness and change so much? Well, to summarize it, I strongly believe that in order to make a change, it is easier to make a commitment and stick to it when you have a supporting and encouraging community. This was my first time going to synergy even though I've heard so many good things about it from friends around town. Shay checked me in and let me try a free class for my first time. Backstory: In the spring of 2017 I promised myself I was finally going to get into shape. I have never in my life considered myself strong or athletically inclined. But my 30th birthday was looming so I figured, "girl- now or never". I joined another local gym and made a go of it myself for 6 months. I got bored easily working out by myself and started to lose interest. I also always felt uncomfortable and self-conscious trying new exercises alone. Then came Synergy! From the first class I was hooked. There are three main types of classes. Powerhouse (all HIIT), House Blend (mix of yoga and HIIT) and Flow (yoga). They have sessions every hour in the morning and in the afternoon to evening. I have been mainly going to the 5:15 AM Powerhouse and it is great! 45 minutes literally flies by and every single time I feel like it was a great workout. The instructors lay out a "workout of the day", show you how to do everything, then time out your circuits. The music is always poppin and keeps the vibe elevated. The instructors are so encouraging and motivating. They are always there with a helpful tip about form or to suggest a different way to make the exercise more challenging. The group atmosphere makes it fun and since the same people come regularly you make "gym friends". I have learned so much that even on weekends out of town I have a solid knowledge of exercises I can do on my own. I feel much more confident working out now and I am excited to try new things. I've worked for a ton of gyms! This one had a great atmosphere, great workouts and the owners are the kind of small business owners that you just want to support. The gym is located on Newport in OB. There is plentiful parking in a lot just a 1 minute walk from the gym. I love their design, they have fun, are always smiling when I drop by and they support local community businesses. (HUGE win for me in Ocean Beach where local is where it's at if we want to keep this beach town friendly vibe goin!) Their workouts are fun and they have yoga which is always a plus for me since I love the addition of yoga to any workout. I've been coming here since they opened just over a month ago and it's been an awesome experience so far. Sofia and Tim, the owners, are so warm and welcoming and the passion and dedication they've put into opening this gym really shows. They've already been able to develop a wonderful sense of community in a short time; the members known each other by name and are so supportive and encouraging of one another through the workouts. My favorite class is Power House which is an energizing blend of H.I.I.T and strength training all in 45 minutes. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a fun yet challenging workout. I found out about Synergy through a Facebook ad marketing their 6 week challenge featuring 6 weeks of unlimited work outs, workshops, and a full meal plan with grocery list for each week! It was perfect timing because I hadn't made any moves to get things together in the new year yet. I recruited my husband to join the challenge with me and we've been sticking to the meal plans and work outs with great results! The workouts consist of yoga blends, HIIT, and recovery classes with each day focusing on a different part of the body- Upper body, Core, Legs, and Full Body. Sofie and Tim have been very motivating throughout this process and always encourage you to keep going! The instructors are great as well and always push you to your personal best. I can honestly say that I've never "fallen in love" with any sort of workout space until Synergy! I've lived in OB for 10+ years and not gonna lie I've been very intimidated walking by Synergy with its bumping music, loud (but oh so fun) trainers and it's fancy equipment. But after seeing the sign to try a new workout for free I finally did and couldn't be more grateful or proud that I did! Yes it's not easy, but it's go at your own pace, weight and skill level of your own discretion with instruction and direction from their knowledgeable staff. In the neighborhood?
