    Mashed potatoes and fish cake.
    Bill P.

This was another Bergen restaurant that was recommended for their fish soup and fish cakes. It is a small restaurant. Customers order at the counter. Most all of the products are ready to be served. The staff calls out when customers' orders have been assembled. There are a small number of tables. They have a generous selection of fish cakes made from different fish types. We had fish soup, fish cakes, and mashed potatoes. The soup was creamy and contained pieces of fish. The fishcakes also were good. The mashed potato serving was creamy and contained fish. I be a regular if I lived in the area.

This place was recommended to us by a local. We tried the Hagelin's best and the fish soup. Both were delicious!

I ordered the Fish cakes with Salad as I wanted to try local food as a first timer in Bergen. It is the perfect place for breakfast and the hostess is so welcoming. She recommended what is popular there and also said she can make a salad for my wife who is vegetarian. I loved the hospitality. The fish was also so fresh and well cooked. Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves fish and is visiting Bergen for the first time.

We ate here after reading about it on the Bergen for Locals iPhone app. We had the Hagelin Miks, fish cake, and small fish soup (total 90 kr). It was very good and they were helpful in explaining the food to us since we hadn't had Norwegian food before. We stopped here after walking through the Fish Market and wondering if the food was good or if it was a tourist trap. We saw fish cakes at the Fish Market for 20 kroner while the fish cakes here were only 8 kroner per stick. The Fish Burger here is 39 kroner compared to a sandwich at McDonald's which is 89 kroner. Skip the Fish Market and head here for good food at a good value (for Norway).

This is the cheapest, tastiest meal I had while in Bergen. There are a variety of different fish cakes and soups, and the staff speaks English and can help guide you towards what you might prefer. It was a filling and warming meal on a colder day!

One of the must eat foods in Norway is fish soup and fishcakes. Upon local recommendations, I came to Sostrene Hagelin which is known as the place to eat fish cakes, fish balls and fish pudding - Norwegian style. For lunch I had the fishcakes in brown sauce (79 NOK) as well as the fishsoup (47 NOK for a small). The fish cakes were light and had a bouncy texture. The brown sauce (gravy) was flavorful but not too heavy. It paired well with the tyttebær (lyngon berry preserve) and scallions on the fish cakes. The side of veggies included diced potatoes, carrots & celery-root. They were soft but not mushy and tasted fresh. The fish soup was thick and hearty and in addition to carrots and celery, it even had small pieces of fish cake in it. I think I ate a little too much as I saw many locals just come in and get the large fish soup for lunch. Definitely a filling meal and so incredibly worth the price, especially when travelling on a budget - forget the fish market and come here for a more economical meal.

Fish burger with mustard is the best way to go. Have with a cup of fish soup to make a perfect lunchtime break in Bergen.

Not good at all. Finished the meal and I do feel full but wished Didn't eat that at all. Fish cake soup, fish cake stew, fish cake burgers. The fish cake was bland and the temperature of the food was room temp, I spent the rest of the day filled with regret as the my stomach rejects the food.

However, the restaurant lived up to its hype. The restaurant is romantic and loaded with European ambiance. This is the kind of place where you know you aren't in Kansas anymore. Lamb is something that I love, so I was happy to see it on the menu. It was incredibly good. Not gamy at all, wonderful cooked, flavorful, and tender. It was fantastic. My wife and I split the huge portion of excellent potatoes au gratin that came with my lamb. It was creamy and tasty. Norwegians LOVE potatoes, so some sort of potato dish is a requirement, I think. My wife had a vegetarian hamburger that came with fries and veggies. She said that it lacked flavor, but it looked good. The fries were excellent.

I mean, I did, which is why after a day of traveling to Bergen from Oslo, I desperately needed sustenance and Bryggeloftet & Stuene was on my list and near my hotel. I walked in on a Tuesday night and no, I was denied. The place was packed, but the friendly hostess took my name down for a reservation for the following day. So that's what to do here. Make a reservation if you can't get in because everyone wants to eat here. The following day during my reserved time, it was a much more satisfying experience since I ate here! The restaurant is located just across the pier and along Bryggen, and inside, it's decorated with old paintings and photos of Bergen and Norway with classic, wood furnishings all around. It takes you back to Bergen's former days, which is the charm of this place. Staff could not have been friendlier. Bryggeloftet & Stuene has traditional, Norwegian food. I ordered the wolffish, which was in season, and the fish came with veggies and a side of potatoes to however you want them made. And this is when I learned that the area prepares potatoes dauphinoise, which is like au gratin and was sooo delicious. My dish comprised of fresh wolffish in a lemon, dill sauce, fresh vegetables and of course, with the side of dauphinoise potatoes. But this is the kind of restaurant that no matter what you order, everything will be delicious here. Ya gotta eat at Bryggeloftet & Stuene when in Bergen.

As soon as I checked into my hotel, I asked the concierge for recommendations of where to eat and they said that Enhjorningen was their favorite restaurant for seafood. Sold. But you must walk up the stairs for the entrance as the downstairs/retail level of this building is actually a bar. And when I walked in the restaurant, I found a charming spot with many old framed paintings and ornate decorations. So it was a little stuffy and the staff was not the friendliest, but you know what? This place isn't touristy unlike many of the other Bergen restaurants, so that's a win. The menu was straightforward with many different seafood entrees, a full wine list and some small bites, desserts and cocktails. I started with the salmon carpaccio and had the halibut for my main dish. And let me tell you, the food was amazing. The seafood was incredibly fresh and tasty.
