If you're looking to host events they also have covered picnic tables. A lot of people bring their dogs to play and the park even has a water fountain that's at dog height for when it's too hot out. There's also a ton of free street parking around. There is an elementary school next door so some of the free start parking is not allowed during certain hours.

The park has tennis courts and it's easy to play in and generally people are respectful of time. That pickleball thing is fun to watch and it's nice that they can have two games play on one tennis court. I have a terrible time with dogs off leash. I get that people love their pets but it's just not safe. The law is the law and it protects people from accidents. I've had two experiences where someone's dog has come running towards me off leash! I have no idea what that dog is going to do and hearing, "He's a good dog, he won't bite"! MEANS NOTHING TO ME. Anyway. It happened again this morning. I'll start carrying a walking stick.

Stretching along Shoal Creek, the park offers a mix of shaded walking and biking trails, open lawns, and beautifully restored natural areas. It is hard to believe when you are in the park that you are in the heart of central Austin. The park is especially family friendly, with a large playground, splash pad, treehouse style observation area, and plenty of seating. While we were at the park a school was hosting a picnic for its students. The northern portion of the park is even more quiet and scenic, with winding trails, limestone bluffs, and creek views. It's a great area for dog walks, leisurely strolls, picnics, workouts, or just relaxing under the trees. The park is well maintained and welcoming to all ages. This park is very special.

The stream nearby adds a peaceful touch, and the overall design of the park feels really intentional and creative. Kids will go crazy for the massive playground and all the interactive installations. The hanging net sphere is a must, you can lie inside and bounce around, and honestly the adults were just as into it as the little ones. There are also food vendors including ice cream, so you can easily spend a whole afternoon here. One of the most well-done parks I've been to. Highly recommend.

That being said, Ramsey is a five minute drive for us so the convenience is great. Parking is on the street and while I've always been able to find a spot, during peak play times you might have to circle the block and perfect your parallel parking skills. One of the main reasons I knocked a star off is the bathroom situation. Points for having bathrooms, but we only use them in emergencies. They're about as clean as you'd expect a park bathroom to be but they could absolutely use a little bit of updating. There is no soap available. I almost think I'm expecting too much but I've been to many playgrounds in major cities that were clean and had all the items you need for hygiene. (No changing tables here.) The playground is nice, it is separated in to two parts where one side seems a little more suited for older kids and the other side has some things toddlers can climb and play on. Lot of space for imaginative play with the boulders and "cave" they can get into. There is also a basketball court, tennis court, and a medium sized field to run around in. Decent amount of picnic tables here and benches.

A fence or wall would have been nice, atleast by the playground area to limit the # of exit points. Lastly, it can be a little dirtier compared to some of the other parks I have been to in the area. Their appears to be softbal fields on one side of the park. This park is massive! We see other leisurely morning walkers, folks with their fur babies on leashes and even small groups of family members and friends enjoying the park. We did not realize until reading the signage, that Walnut Creek park is a nature park. Totally makes sense given the lush nature of the park. Cyclists ride down the trail with vigor and position. The park is alive! Really enjoyed our power walk.., This family friendly park has an array of playground equipment for children. The is also a large empty swimming pool in background...unsure if it's operational. Picnic tables are strategically sprinkled throughout the park.

Great option for hiking -- large park with lots of trails…read more According to my quick research, there's only one paved trail -- Northern Walnut Creek Trail. We had our kids in a wagon stroller so needed a stroller-friendly trail. It's a long trail (not a loop) so we just walked it to the creek and turned back. Trailhead is to the right of playground. Playground was pretty nice (with an area for smaller toddlers) but parents could have been more conscientious (some kids were throwing rocks down the slide).

I learned about items from all over the world. The food items were a bit pricey, however, most items were reasonably priced. My friend Oksanna had beautiful jewelry, coasters and small tables made from resin. I purchased a vanity, that is super cool and unique. The vanity is made with quality materials and absolutely beautiful. Kudos to the YMCA for allowing their space to be used for the festival. This inKind contribution is commendable. This facility is nice and I will consider exploring fitness services at the Y.

I am a member but I noticed on my last visit the homeless are now allowed to…read morecome on in and take a seat, relax, and take advantage of the facilities How much do they pay to come on in and why should people have to pay membership dues for this? If I use the bathroom will I have to encounter a man or woman in there, or both? The gym upstairs has dark corners and if these people are allowed to wander around what is to stop them from taking advantage of what they don't pay for. Thoroughly disturbing and very troubling for those with children.

It has a wide open field & is right next to a playground & basketball court. It also has park benches along the open field. This recreational center just recently reopened in 2022 after an extensive remodel. This center is…read moresandwiched between Overton elementary school and Colony Park (see separate review of the park). The center boasts of some very nice amenities such as a workout room, teen room, spacious kitchen, arts and crafts room, and a multipurpose room. This center is open to the general public without fees although you may need to sign a waiver if you use the facilities. On Fridays, they have bingo for seniors, and even a free breakfast. The bathrooms are very clean and modern. They have an indoor basketball court facility, which is very well designed. The elementary school next-door makes good use of this basketball gymnasium area. They even have a covered outdoor basketball court behind the building. They also have an afterschool program for three surrounding schools which involves a hot meal. There is another building next-door, which is another gymnasium with a small kitchen. Behind the smaller building is a wonderfully designed and extensive playground with covered picnic tables, baseball field, and soccer field. It should be pointed out that unlike some other recreational centers, there are no homeless camps within its boundaries. This is definitely one of the nicest recreational centers within the city limits of Austin. Check out the photos below, and read my review of Colony Park, which adds the finishing touches.
