Over the past few years, I have shopped at this particular Sherwin-Williams store in Ross Township many times. I have most frequently bought their interior SuperPaint and Emerald paints, and I have occasionally bought their exterior paints and supplies. For my most recent purchase, I ordered two gallons of paint through the Sherwin-Williams website. The regular prices for the paint were expensive, but Sherwin-Williams was having a sale for 30%-off. Later that day, a store employee emailed me that my paint was ready for pickup. When I went to the store to pick up my paint, an employee immediately greeted me. She looked for my order in the computer, and she found my cans of paint on back shelves. She handed me my receipt and thanked me. I think that Sherwin-Williams paint is easy to apply to my drywall and wooden trim and that it provides good coverage. Many top interior designers highly recommend Sherwin-Williams paint colors, and I have enjoyed several of the paint colors in my house. I greatly appreciate that this store is open until 6 PM from Monday through Friday, and they are open also on Saturdays and Sundays.

This location is located inside a Giant Eagle grocery store, and it consists of only several aisles of products, so it does not have every home-improvement product that you might need. For about four years, I have occasionally shopped in this store. Most recently, I placed on online order for lawn fertilizers that the store did not have in stock. The prices were fine. Rather than pay for shipping to my home, I arranged for free delivery to this store. The fertilizers were at the store within six days, and the store notified me via email. When I arrived at the store, a friendly employee promptly greeted me. I told her that I was there to pick up my fertilizers that I had ordered online. She went into a back room and retrieved the bags and handed them over. When I was in the store, I saw other products such as power tools, grills, paints, and bird feed.

When I entered the store, two employees smiled, said hello, and asked me if I needed any assistance. I needed to choose a paint color for one of my bathrooms, so I spent much time browsing this store's large selection of color samples. The store offered free color chips in all colors plus reasonably priced peel-and-stick samples in some colors. The store appeared to be fully stocked with other products as well. I took my numerous color samples home, I decided on a particular color, and I ordered my gallon of paint.

I visited this particular Harbor Freight Tools store in Ross Township, PA. As I walked around the store, no employee greeted me. I could not find a specific product, so my husband asked the cashier, and she pointed and told us roughly where to walk. I noticed that Harbor Freight Tools sells many in-house brands that competing retailers do not sell. Their website lists brands such as Bauer, Doyle, Franklin, Hercules, Icon, Pittsburgh, Predator, Vanguard, Warrior, and many others. I chose four products to purchase. At the checkout counter, the cashier immediately greeted me, scanned my products, signed me up for the store's membership program, processed my payment, and thanked me. Compared to Home Depot's prices for similar products, my package of sand paper here cost slightly more, my package of screwdrivers cost significantly less, my paint brush cost slightly less, and my gloves cost significantly less. Furthermore, the membership program allowed me to select one free product from a table, and I chose a pair of $2 gloves to receive for free. I have not yet used all of these products, but they appear to be a good quality. I am not sure yet how they compare to competing retailers' big-name brands, but Harbor Freight Tools's website says that the quality is similar and the prices are lower because they cut out the middleman. The store's policy allows returns and exchanges within 90 days, and tools have a lifetime warranty.

YOUR CONTRACTORS REPRESENT YOU…read more Today we expected a delivery of a dishwasher and microwave from Home Depot. We were told they would be delivered between 12pm and 4pm. At 12pm the delivery service representing Home Depot called to say they'd be at our house in 30-40 minutes. We never heard from them again. When we called the delivery service phone number (6 times), they wouldn't answer. Finally, we called Home Depot at 315pm. We were told the delivery wouldn't be made because our street was too narrow. (We actually have one of the wider streets in our neighborhood and have had a washer, dryer, stove and other large items delivered.) Call this poor communication. Poor communication leads to poor customer service. As the Home Depot rep and I discussed the matter, the rep said, "We can deliver it on Wednesday or you can get a refund." (It was an ultimatum and not a good way to negotiate.) So, we cancelled the order and they lose $1200. The Home Depot representative told us they have no control over the delivery people. This is bad business. Your contractors do business in your name. If you can't control them, don't hire them. For better results, teach your people, employees and contractors, communication and negotiation skills. And, think twice before you order a delivery from Home Depot.

On 06/07/2026, I placed an order with Lowe's for a complete shower kit that was part of a total…read moreremodel of my bathroom. Throughout the order process, Lowe's informed me that the item would be delivered on 06/26/2026. However, on that day the item did not arrive, and I did not receive any communication from Lowe's to inform me of any delays. I spoke to people at the Lowe's in McCandless, PA, from which the item was to be delivered, as well as people at regional office, but no one was able to tell me when the item would be delivered. After getting help from a regional manager, the manager at the Lowe's McCanless store called me on 06/29/2026 and said the shower would be delivered the following day. On 06/30/2026, my order status still was not showing that the shower would be delivered, so I called the Lowe's McCandless store again to verify the status. The young lady I spoke with put me on hold, presumably to speak with the store manager, but whoever she spoke to told her to tell me they couldn't find the item. Mind you, this is a 30" by 60", more than 6-foot-tall shower that ships mostly assembled. After speaking with the regional manager again, the Lowe's McCandless store manager called and said that when I had spoken to him the previous day, he told me that the shower would be delivered two days later. I reminded him that he used the word "tomorrow," which does not mean two days later. He promised to get the shower to me that day. Unfortunately, whoever built the pallet that was holding the item did a shoddy job, and it broke during unloading, causing it to fall off of the forklift and damaging it. Once again, I called the McCandless store to report the damage. They promised to deliver a new shower on 07/06/2026. When that day arrived, the shower did not arrive. Again, I received no updates or communication. After making some more calls, I was told that the shower had to be specially ordered from the manufacturer and would take as long as three weeks. At this point I had wasted several days sitting at home, waiting for a shower instead of being productive at my office. My contractor had reached a point at which they could not proceed any further without having the shower. They had to stop work and move on to another job. I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint against Lowe's due to their lack of communication, dishonesty of their store manager, and lack of action in getting me an item for which I paid nearly $3,000. The shower was ultimately delivered on 07/22/2026. However, now I have to wait for my contractor to finish the job they're currently doing before resuming my job. This sets me back and additional month, during which time I have a completely unusable bathroom. Lowe's purports itself to be a leading hardware store, and I asked that they refund me half the money for the shower to compensate me for the difficulties they caused. They insisted that they could not compensate me for lost time, and that they best they could do was a $100 gift card. What happened to the days when businesses held themselves and their employees accountable for their actions? I think this story is important for people to know if they are considering making a purchase from Lowe's particularly if it is something being shipped to them.
