I grew up in Andalusia and am always so excited any time we can fit in a trip to the Tabby D's buffet when we visit my family. We went last week, and the roast beef with the thin gravy, mashed potatoes, and veggies were just like I remembered. And the value for the price is insane! The great salad bar they say they have is very small. The food choices are limited on the buffet. Wait staff has to be flagged down. But the worst part was we were passing through town so we were "strangers". Everyone in the place stared at us. One man watched us the entire meal. Kind of creepy. read more

Two ladies from Tabby's came by our apartment today, now I am a Disabled Retired USN Veteran, and I hardly get out anymore unless it's to the doctor's office. Long story short these two wonderful ladies stopped by and brought us some ribs, corn on the cob, and rice-free. Most excellent chow and a good welcome. read more

The food is so good, we visit often. The food is great, the staff and owner are all so wonderful, greeting you like family. I've tried all their foods and can't complain about any of it. Their fried chicken??? Ohhhhh my word, I don't know what they season it with, but it is so good! The service is impeccable. I'm usually not the biggest fan of "Southern home cooking" but I definitely wanted to try this place out. A ton of people at work recommended it. They were right! It was delicious! Came here for lunch today and was confused a bit. The outside says that its a Christian Book Store so I was unsure of where the restaurant was. I walked in and you pay on your right. A hostess then leads you to the left where the dining area is. It was $9.00 for the buffet and I left a $2.00 tip. I grabbed my plate and went up to see their offerings. It was a small area but offered a decent variety. Here is what I got.......... Chicken- They had fried chicken today. I got a thigh and a wing. They coating was decently thick and perfectly done. It was pretty tasty. I may have to come back on chicken finger day like Kelly P was speaking about. I bet they are delicious! Collard Greens- These were damn good! I've had collards a few times now and these were definitely tasty! I ate a huge helping of these. Mashed Potatoes- I had a big scoop of these too. They were piping hot and super duper smooth. Light as air like a mashed potato pillow. Delicious! Prime Rib- Got a slice of this and it was alright. I've had better but it was still pretty decent....especially for a buffet. Desserts- I had a slice of coconut chess pie and a slice of red velvet cake. I should have saved more room for dessert. The pie was delicious! If it was not homemade, I would be surprised. It was really good! The cake was delicious too. The cream cheese frosting and moist cake were a winner! Service was friendly enough. Your cost includes your drink too which is nice. I left full and everyone in the place was definitely enjoying their food. Total locals place from what I gathered. I may be back for chicken finger day. Wow! How could anyone say anything bad about this place! It should have 10 stars! Everything here is homemade wholesome goodness. When I think of home cooking this is EXACTLY what I am talking about. And they had a carving station and the meat was phenomenal. Mash potatoes, sweet potatoes, fried chicken, carrots, beans, outstanding desserts/pies and an excellent soft serve ice cream machine. I went here a few times in 2016 and got great food and service each time. I don't know when I'll be back in town, but this place will be my go-to lunch spot at that time. The roast beef and the collard greens are particular standouts, as are the fried vegetables (onion and cauliflower). They have a conference room that seats something like forty people. read more

I travel a lot for work and have the opportunity to eat at all kinds of new places. A recent work trip took our group to Andalusia, AL, and Tabby D's was recommended by a local. I was slightly skeptical, and even more so when I saw that it was attached to the front of an EconoLodge. This is a buffet-style place that specializes in home cooking. We went on a Wednesday, which I believe was roast beef and ribs day. The side dishes are rotated and on different days consisted of black-eyed peas, lima beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, rice and gravy (or no gravy, if you wish), fried cauliflower, steamed veggies, macaroni and cheese, and jalapeno cornbread. Our waitress overheard us saying we were visiting and invited us back for the next day, which was chicken finger day. She said, "I guarantee you they are the best chicken tenders you will ever eat." After that kind of challenge, who can say no? So the next day we returned, again thinking there was no way the food could live up to the hype. We all got our plates of chicken and as people started to eat, all you could hear was, "OH my GOSH." "Mmmmmm!" "Holy cow." They really were the best chicken fingers I had ever had. Thin, flaky batter on the outside and falling apart on the inside. I forgot to mention my other favorite thing, which is the blackberry cobbler. They rotate cobblers as well and have a different one every day, but all their desserts are good. We were in the area again for work this week, and we drove 45 minutes out of the way to eat lunch there today, on chicken finger day. If you are in the area and are looking for some authentic Southern food, all you can eat, then try Tabby D's. Tappy D's in Andalusia use to be the best place to eat in the Area. Now it is the worse place to eat in Andalusia. i ordered fried pork chops and i got something that didn't even look like a pork chop and could fit in the palm of my hand . it was not fried like it use to be. it was shake and bake. a teaspoon of beans fresh out the can no seasoning. i had to send them back to have the water drained off of them. However the mash potatoes where very good. read more

I used to come here with my uncle so I am a little sentimental about this place. They have a great buffet and salad bar - lots of good choices and always fresh. They keep it well stocked and clean. Where do I start? Tabby D's rocked my world! This is authentic Southern country cooking at its best. I grew up in Georgia and Alabama and have lived in California for the last 40 years. On a recent trip to Andalusia to visit family, my Aunt and I stopped at Tabby D's for lunch. It was Friday, October 5, 2018, and it was catfish day. Oh my heavenly stars! The catfish was delicious, the roast beef was amazing, the black-eyed peas and beans were melt-in-your-mouth goodness, and the cheesy grits and hush puppies took me straight back to growing up in the South. Of course, the sweet tea was perfect, too. Chocolate pie was on the dessert cart that day, and I have not had chocolate pie like that since I was a little girl - - fabulous! We ate until we could not eat any more. It was THAT good! In fact, I went back on Monday, October 8, and had lunch again, this time with my brother. Mexican casserole was on the menu that day, along with vegetable fritters, cornbread, and pecan pie. Y'all, I have not had country cooking this good (outside of my own or my family's cooking) in ages. I am now back in California and today is October 26, a full three weeks since I was in Andalusia, and I am STILL thinking about this place! I need a Tabby D's in my life! LOL! Hotel clerk highly recommended this place and it was packed so i thought it must be great. Price was very reasonable for all you can eat. Well, you get what you pay for and the good folks of Andalusia are in need of really good food! The good ole country cookin here was mediocre at best. Roast beef was almost too tough to chew, tea was watery, vegetables were pretty bland, not much of a selection either. Dessert selection dwindled quickly and was not replinished.
