We also wanted to find a place that valued diversity and was honoring of multiple generations, not just placing emphasis on one generation over the other. What we found in New Hope Worship Center exceeded our expectations in every one of these elements. Their leadership team preaches the word passionately, yet with a humility and reverence that I find to be super refreshing. Their worship ministry makes room for the Holy Spirit and has so many incredible worship leaders instead of just hearing from one person all the time. Their children's, student, and young adults ministries are active and growing, and I'm blessed to see how many nationalities are represented throughout the congregation (they hosted an international potluck that blew us away). As an army brat, I've been used to "church shopping" every time our family was reassigned, and unfortunately sometimes you find that local churches can be clique-ish. It can be hard to integrate, especially for military families. But I've never felt so immediately welcome and embraced by a church community than the one we have here. They're all down to earth, fun-loving, non-judgmental and honest and open with their relationship with God. Jesus is our perfect example of what love looks like, and they try to show that to everyone who comes through their doors. Theyre genuine. They provide an open and trusting environment so people with addictions feel comfortable at laying their burdens at the alter and the feet of Christ. I've spoken with some of the congregation who've been healed of addictions and brokenness and saw first hand how the Lord and the pastoral staff loved these people into their healing. I felt home and welcome the moment I walked through the doors. No crazy light shows just worship from a team that truly loves to worship.

4.5 stars rounded to 5…read more This is an outstanding church that is filled with good, friendly people. It is huge. There's at least 3-4 different sections where you could view the service. Depending on what kind of worship music you like, you can take your pick of which section to sit in. The main service area has an upstairs and downstairs area. Each area has a pretty good view of the main stage, and they also display two large display screens that show what is going on. There's always plenty of room to sit. Constituents are predominantly white, although I do see the occasional black, asian, or hispanic family in the pews. There's two different locations in the Augusta, GA area: -3203 Washington Rd with services at 0920 and 1045 -777 Horizon South Pkwy with services at 0930 and 1115 I've never been to the Grovetown location so I speak only for the 3203 Washington location.. Child care service is available for all ages. It is free and awesome. You simply sign your kid up with the assistants and your kid is in the system for easy check-in and check-out. There is a Children's Ministry (706-922-7030) and a Preschool Ministry (706-922-7042). They even offer weekday preschool and childcare services. Reasons why I love this church: 1. Head pastor is a pretty good speaker. I would give him an A-. Not quite the best I've heard, but he is definitely up there. He is funny without being disrespectful. And despite his jokes and history lessons, he never digresses too much from the bible that it becomes an issue. His messages are on point. 2. Excellent child care services. Assistants and teachers are organized, caring, and extremely friendly. 3. Nobody pressures you to provide "offering" or donations. I've been to some churches where they stick the offering bag right in your face. This church does not even pass around offering bags or envelopes. There's literally zero pressure. 4. There is no pressure for you to join any worship/bible study group or after-service activity. 5. Outstanding band and praise team. 6. Free coffee and relax areas Some things I dislike: 1. It's a little TOO big. I get lost in the halls quite often. 2. A little impersonal. So the drawback of being a big church with no pressure to join groups is that there is no sense of fellowship unless you actively seek it. Once service is over, majority of folks file out and go straight to the parking lot to leave. It is difficult to walk that fine line between being intrusive and being totally detached. I think this church could make a little more effort to get folks involved in fellowship activity. It could be something as small as having a meet and greet event immediately following service. But just having something would be nice(r).

I gave the chapel a 4 star rating ONLY because several folks including myself and the floral delivery truck had a difficult time finding it. So, if you are from out of town or are not familiar with the campus, give yourself some time. I'm guessing that the floral delivery truck's GPS like mine kept directing us to a dorm on Oak St (on campus). Maybe additional campus signage would be great(?). Once at the chapel you will find plenty of parking but like on most college campuses ... you'll have to do a "little" walking to get to the chapel door (not too bad though). The Chapel itself is huge and beautiful inside and out. The facility accommodates 1500 pew seated guests. The interior decorum is "purple" themed (color of royalty). Inside you'll find light purple colored church pews, a choir stand, organ and piano, as well as two portable podium stands for speakers. The acoustics were great (speaker and vocalists). The facility is well maintained and is highly recommended for church services, funerals, weddings and the like.

This chapel is on the campus of Paine College and owned and operated by the school as well. It was built in 1968 and holds up to 1200 people. The rear section of this building contains classrooms, sound-proof practice rooms, a music library, studios, robbing rooms, and auditorium that seats 200 persons. This is the Gilbert-Lambuth Memorial Chapel. That name is full of meaning. The names are fitly joined together and fitly memorialized by this gift, this useful building on this campus. Each man was a real scholar. John Wesley Gilbert was the first Paine student, the first graduate, the first Negro member of this faculty. He was a classicist, a Biblical Scholar, great human being. Walter Russell Lambuth was a physician as well as a theologian, one of the church's great missionary statesmen. A trustee of this College, his name also is given to Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee. Both men were ordained ministers, churchmen, - Gilbert an editor, Lambuth a bishop. Together, in a venture to rival Stanley's quest for Livingston, they walked a thousand miles across the Congo to established, class of 1957 at Paine, Secretary General of the Protestant council of Churches in Congo, confidant, counselor, and sometimes stern teacher of leaders of both Gilbert-Lambuth. Look where you will in Paine College. You will find a close and intimate linkage of two races, a real and continuous fellowship of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and the Methodist Church. In this chapel these meanings are fitly joined. I'm actually very fond of this venue because this is were my older sister's funeral was held. Our church couldn't hold as many people as we were expecting for her service, so that's when the idea was brought in to hold it here. This venue was just right for the service. Everyone was seated comfortably and the service was quite beautiful. The fee in 1995 for the rental of this building was a couple of hundred dollars. I'm sure it's well over that now. Like I said before I have been here for several events in the community one of the greatest and memorable is my sister's funeral and hearing and meeting the motivational speaker, Les Brown. Recently, the newly elected mayor, Hardie Davis was inducted into office here. At any giving time there are many events held here and it's a great place to hold any event throughout the community. With this chapel's rich history in the community you are sure to have great and fond memories of this building and the events held here.

The red brick, the tall white steeple, the way the building anchors the corner at Seventh and Greene. It all has that unmistakable presence of a congregation that has shaped the city for nearly two centuries. The historical marker out front gives you the essentials, but the deeper story adds even more texture to what you see when you stand there. The current sanctuary, completed in 1875, reflects a blend of Romanesque Revival and Gothic Revival architecture, a combination that gives the building its distinctive profile. The soaring 168‑foot steeple still rises above the surrounding blocks. Even after a fire destroyed the earlier sanctuary in 1870, parts of that structure were incorporated into the new building, a quiet architectural continuity that ties the modern church to its nineteenth‑century roots. Restoration work began in 1989, part of a long effort to preserve both the building and the congregation's place in Augusta's civic landscape. The marker reads, "The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) began in Kentucky in the early years of the nineteenth century. Dr. Daniel Hook and Captain and Mrs. Edward Campfield established Augusta's First Christian Church in 1835, despite great suspicion and negativity from more established Protestant denominations. Philanthropist Emily Tubman aided the fledgling congregation by donating the first building (later Tubman High School for girls), convincing Georgia lawyer James S. Lamar to study and to become the church's pastor in 1852, and donating new buildings for the church's relocation to Greene and McIntosh Streets in 1874. Restoration of the structure began in 1989." It is marker number 121-9 and it was erected in 2005 by the Georgia Historical Society and the Congregation of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). This is a small church on the outskirts of town. It is actually the church my grandfather's mother…read moreattended back in the day when she was living. I hadn't been here since I was a child. It's off the beaten path and about 14 miles outside of town. I recently made a visit back here to lay my grandmother to rest in her final resting place, inside of the small church cemetery on the side of the church. The church and it facilities were neatly kept and in a very intimate setting. I saw many of my family's graves as well. Being out here brought back fond memories of my family and my childhood. I can only imagine what kind of fun my loved ones are having up there in heaven. I know they are having a grand ole time, especially since my grandmother has recently gained her wings. I can hear her cracking jokes and making everyone laugh. Rest beautifully grandmother!!!!
