When I got home and compared the other new pair to the ones he supposedly shined, there was no discernable difference. I called and he said he used Kiwi polish and spent about 2 hours on these. I am retired Military and have shined many shoes in my career, and you can always smell the polish right after a shine. Rather than working toward a reasonable resolution, he insisted that the full amount be paid and made comments that I perceived as threatening, which made the situation even more stressful. By law, customers deserve clear estimates, transparent communication, and authorization BEFORE significant work or charges are incurred. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. I would STRONGLY encourage anyone considering this business to get every estimate and authorization in writing before leaving their vehicle.
