Too often it's been overly salted, dry and just overall not as good as our first several trips. Tried many different dishes breakfast and lunch and same issues. Its quality of ingredients especially meat and attention to recipes has lowered. Maybe there is newer staff idk but after breakfast today my order being wrong again and not tasty again, I'm done trying. I want more than just a semi full belly. I want it to be what I ordered and tasty. Today was so bad I couldn't finish my egg & chorizo tacos.

So much that I usually make little happy dances and pleasure sounds while eating. I don't even care who sees me either. There is more soul in this little gas station restaurant than anywhere within twenty miles. This is Soul Food at its best. You may ask how I can call Mexican food, Soul Food...? Here is my take... Soul Food, to me, is much more than a "type of food". Don't get me crooked, I am all about some OxTail's, Smothered Pork Chops, Chicken & Dressing, Turkey Necks, Greens, Cornbread, etc. etc. etc. It's about food made with love, by people who love to make food, with techniques and seasonings handed down through generations of good people. That is what you get here! Every time I eat here I am filled with the love of the folks in the kitchen as well as their ancestors. It's a small family business, and Tony is one of the greatest people you will ever meet. He is so happy to be in his little section of this gas station slinging this heavenly food. I drive 40 minutes each way from work to eat here and as soon as I leave I cannot wait to get back. It's that damn good! Everything is great, but you have to try the Carnitas! Life changing flavor! Seriously! '24 - 6/100

The biggest issue was the service. The employee working the cash register came across as rude and unfriendly, as if customers were inconveniencing him. Instead of feeling welcomed, I felt like we were being treated poorly, which put a damper on the entire visit. While the food tasted good, the portions were a bit skimpy on ingredients for the price. Considering how expensive everything was, I expected better value and a more positive customer experience. I know this restaurant has plenty of fans, but I found some of the employees to be arrogant and dismissive. The treatment we received felt rude and unprofessional, and it left a lasting negative impression. Overall, I am deeply disappointed. Good food can only make up for so much, and the poor service overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable meal. I would not return based on the way we were treated. It's very clean but very old stuff and to much on display with old plants everywhere.

He told me their chips and salsa aren't like what you get in most Mexican restaurants, and that they make their salsa in house. I was confused, because I was like, What do you mean your chips and salsa aren't like chips and salsa? But I get it now, and they really aren't. The chips are totopos, and the salsa is a very flavorful, thin pureed sauce that has been cooked or roasted-- not sure exactly how they make it, but there is cooking and technique involved for sure. They were SO GOOD. So delicious-- I have an Oaxaca restaurant nearish me, and now I can't wait to try it. I ordered the ceviche, which came with the totopos. I asked for more salsa verde and glad I did. They do charge for extra salsa (if your order comes with it, they give you a little of each the red and green). Glad I did because it was SO GOOD. I licked the container for real. If I ever come back to Covington it would be to come here and have the exact same thing. I took a star off because I didn't like the service.

Orders are always ready when they say. The only reason I'm not giving a 5-star rating is because I recently veered off from street tacos (of which I'm a connoisseur, if I do say so myself) to try other menu items and I wasn't all that impressed. I'd recommend sticking to the street tacos, which are amazing every time. Great job, Jose (or whatever your name actually is :).

When you sit down they bring you complimentary chips and salsa for the table and it is good. The salsa has a nice kick to it and the chips are thin and crunchy. I ordered the fajitas and they were delicious. The sushi rolls are HUGE! We ordered a few to share and it was SO much food. I enjoyed each roll I tried. The gyoza is also good. My dad said the ginger salad was good. We liked the Bubba roll and the Angry Dragon roll. The overall experience was good. Our server was helpful and quick to check on us. The restaurant is decorated with their logo and mostly looks like a Mexican restaurant. It's fun and didn't. I would go again.

ABSOLUTE SLOP... I gave this restaurant three tries. The…read morefirst two attempts were mediocre at best, but I just got done eating the absolutely ***WORST*** Mexican "cuisine" meal of my life tonight, and trust me, I've eaten more Mexican food out than any other cuisine, stretching the entire United States, and a few in Mexico itself. I ordered al a carte as I typically do (for the variety and to see if they can do multiple dishes well). I received three main course items sloppily placed into a single container drowning in a chili powder and salt heavy sauce such that I could not taste the tortilla or protein...it all tasted like a chili powder salt lick (btw, I am NOT sensitive AT ALL to sodium...I have been home cooking for 3 decades and fully appreciate a well-seasoned dish). This was the worse slop I've ever eaten at a Mexican restaurant, and to boot, the meal cost $20 for three al a carte items and a small side of rice. At the counter, I asked for a small side of their spiciest salsa (which I always do) and they up-charged me $2 for a literally a single two ounce serving of what appeared to be their house salsa with a ton of guess what....a handful of chili powder in it. Their prices are absolute highway robbery for the quality of food they are serving, and it's quite obvious that since they are the only Mexican restaurant in this entire county, they are gouging the local Caucasian population that doesn't know any better. At this quality, their prices should be half of what they are, and if that were the case, you still wouldn't find me eating there. You'll get no more chances from me, you low-quality scam artists. Bye and good riddance.

Tasty chicken, for a Fish House…read more My wife and I recently met up with other family members to enjoy a tasty meal at J&J. While most everyone had different food choices, everyone appeared to enjoy their meal. Although we did get our food, the delivery was a bit slow. Ironically, it was the fish meals that were delivered last. However, the 3-piece Dark of Krispy Krunchy Chicken that I had was fantastic! The chicken arrived hot, and it was moist, spicy, and full of flavor. The legendary "Krunch" was a hit for me. The seasoned fries were also good, but a wee bit cold when they arrived. The rest of our group said their food was good too. Now they also had some good looking desserts, but I was too full to even try them - on this visit, maybe next time. If you're nearby, you may know how good the food tastes. If you don't know or if you're just passing through Bolivar, check them out if you want a good meal.

I ordered fried Catfish filets and fried green tomatoes [ I figured if I'm gonna eat fried food, I may as well go all the way :) ] Well, the tomatoes were fried perfectly, lightly breaded, my only complaint is that they were so over salted I couldn't finish it. The fish was a bit better, cornmeal breading again a bit heavy handed with the salt, but passable.
