I received a…read moreserving of chips and salsa up front, and decided to compliment them with a horchata that I did not need, but which immediately convinced me that this place uses some proper ingredients based on its slightly bubblegum-like taste that is distinctive to the region. My pupusas came with an excellent set of accompaniments and were bursting with flavor. The cheese was a bit on the salty side, but the beans were delicious, and the distinctive mix of textures you get when you combine a freshly grilled pupusa with the lightly fermented cabbage distinctive to the cuisine is excellent. There were some herbal notes in there, and the salsa was brightly flavored. It really is a fascinating mix of flavors distinctive to the Americas. Also a lot of food for the money. While the menu had a handful of vegetarian options, some of their staples were not offered this way and it seemed to be they could be with ease. And I would really like to see them do some dairy-free options and those beans and some vegetables would make a pupusa that I think people would want.

Run don't walk, Radford!! Compared to what I have eaten here in Radford during my previous stays,…read morethis is a godsend! Authentic homemade flavors served with smiles! Cute unassuming spot off of West Main St, I was greeted warmly by the hostess. The service was quick and soon I found myself staring down Al pastor tacos. We ordered the sweet plantains and al pastor tacos and the pork gorditas. Everything was generously stuffed with meat! The plantains we soft and sweet though a few were slightly burnt but overall they were a treat. The corn tortillas didn't hold up to the generous portion of meat in the Al pastor tacos but the flavors were there. My only complaint is that there isn't a good spicy red or green salsa to pour on top, but this is a Salvadoran place so I'm sure that's more the specialty. The gorditas were fat and satisfying. All in all, this is a gem of a place for Radford and if you feel like it would be a little new for you, take the plunge! It's a must try.

When I first reviewed this little Mexican Restaurant located in a Marathon Gas Station in Vinton,…read moreVirginia, they had just started out and its restaurant's sign was just a custom vinyl banner covering up the U-Haul sign of the business that was there before. Yet the word out there was that this hole in the wall little restaurant had good food at reasonable prices. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. Today, this Hispanic family-owned restaurant remains a "hole in the wall" dining establishment, housed in a space out of a Marathon Gas Station. Their delicious Mexican Food from their origins in San Diego, California, and their reasonable prices, remain the same. Yet now they have a professional outdoor storefront sign, and they've changed their logo somewhat. The word Burrito in Spanish not only means the Mexican food item. It also means a little donkey; and originally their logo was a cute caricature of a little donkey. This was The house of the Little Donkey Taco Shop and Mexican Food. Inside the restaurant they still have a framed glass with this logo painted on it. Now they've substituted the little donkey with a food burrito. I'm not sure why they did the change. Maybe it was to promote their burritos. But whatever the reason, their delicious and inexpensive, authentic Mexican food remains the same, as well as the simple decor of the restaurant itself. And they still charge for their chips and salsa, justifying the way it's done in Mexico. The complimentary Chips and Salsa is an American Tradition that started in Mexican Restaurants here in the States. As I approached the counter to order my food, the enlarged menu was posted on the side wall. A friendly young lady in uniform greeted me and gave me a warm welcome. She answered some questions that I had about the menu and took my order to eat in. I ordered two Corizo Tacos as appetizer and a Adobada Chimichaga Combo (Marinated Spicy Pork), served with rice and refried beans. To drink I ordered a Pineapple Jarritos soda. I asked the employee if they had any physical menus. And she told me they didn't because customer would take them home. I would recommend to the owner of the restaurant room have some small menus designed and printed, and give them out to their customers because they would be a perfect marketing tool to bring in customers and also increase their Take Out orders sales. They currently don't have desserts. Some restaurants do this in order for customers to spend less time in the restaurant and allow others to sit and dine, thus increasing their sales. The young lady who took my order asked me to sit down at a table in the dining room and she would bring me the food when it was ready. It was amazingly delicious as always, and for the price you got more than your money's worth. I highly recommend this restaurant for when you feel like eating good Mexican food in an informal, relaxed environment.

I haven't been to a wide variety of eating establishments in the Blacksburg college town area so I…read moredon't have a lot to compare Centro to which is why, for now, 4 Stars is what I'm giving this place as my inaugural rating. BUT....signs are REALLY PROMISING FOR AN UPGRADE TO 5 STARS if the 2 times I've been here - once in July and then a few weeks ago before the start of classes - are any indication. This was a total stumbled-on find for us and Yelp once again assisted us in picking this little gem. We were looking for a dinner spot, in the mood for anything, just wanted to find someplace with good reviews, went searching on Yelp and came across Centro. Prices were just right and street tacos sounded amazing and a healthier choice - but not too healthy lol - than a greasy burger joint, fast food or an overpriced sit down. Finding the place, at night, was tricky believe it or not. There were noooo pics in Yelp of the shopfront (there are now, check 'em out) and we went up and down the block where google maps indicated it was. Folks - it's a 2nd floor place with 2 small front entrances - the main one right on N Main - a tiny door with a big illustrated skull on the black awning (hard to see in the dark) - sandwiched in between Poor Billy's (on the corner of N Main and Jackson) and Boudreaux's. The other entrance to Centro is on Jackson, just around the corner. Just outside the Jackson entrance, you'll see the makeshift outside dining area for Centro - like 5 or 6 table/chair sets roped off as the street is still a through street for traffic. Clever outside dining area actually - tables are sufficiently distanced, servers wore masks, tables are cleaned diligently and only QR code online menus! Oh and on warm, sunny days, there is large-tree-shade providing nice relief. Way to go! Okay - now for THE FOOD! Sooooooo gooooood! Caveat: we've only ever had the a la carte street tacos and the side order of chips and salsa and guac. That's all. But that's been plenty for us and sufficiently filling and satisfying. The menu isn't extensive and they're not Taco Bell (thank goodness!) or On the Border - but Centro doesn't need to be. I figure their limited menu allows them to focus on QUALITY and what they do best. And it shows - YUM. Value: Absolutely excellent value! Way to go Centro for making your fare way-affordable for students! Totally worth the cost. Quality and fresh ingredients and generous portions on each taco. Lime wedges are a nice touch. The tray of chips is overflowing and enough to group-share. The guac is house made (you can tell) and the salsa is pico de gallo style. They have other hot, medium and mild sauces they'll bring you upon request. Service: Amazing! :) Both times, our servers were on-it, polite and responsive. Our wait for food was minimal (though truthfully, both times we went during non rush). Centro ROCKS. Give them your business and tip your server generously - they're worth it and worth keeping them going! Hoping for huge success for Centro as the new school year begins and as small local businesses like Centro are coming out of the Covid shutdown.
