Honestly, some of the best tacos that I've had in a while. They were overflowing with meat and toppings. Do not skip out on the green salsa. The red salsa is very spicy. This isn't located inside of a small shopping plaza and it is hard to miss. The inside is very small but they do have seating if you want to eat there. They have a large variety on the menu, but I definitely opted for the tacos and they did not disappoint. Its nestled between a bunch of odd shops in a strip mall; the dining area is small with just 3 or 4 booths but the food is amazing and absolutely Authentic Mexican. Just like their sign says "no fake food". We visited Tacos California and ordered the Breakfast Burrito with bacon and green salsa, the elote cup and a horchata. The hostess at the counter was very friendly and made us feel comfortable. She brought out our food when it was ready, nice and warm. The aroma was delicious just like every bite that followed. We also tried the elote. First time eating it prepared this way (not on a cob) so the texture was different cause you're missing the step of biting into a cob but the flavor was good and included all the toppings of mayonnaise, cheese and chile. The horchata was perfectly prepared with a nice amount of cinnamon. We definitely plan on coming back to try more of the options they have on the menu. I really wanted to like this place especially after reading the reviews. But, the burrito I got was missing the sauce and had the bare minimum of veggies for the veggies burritos. I think they maybe should update to real healthy beans rather than refried beans. Their take out food is not put in any container just wrapped up and they need to double or triple wrap as my burrito was leaking and falling apart within minutes. It also had a distinct cardboatd taste plus the tortilla was paper thin which may have caused the burrito to fall apart. I have seeen Taco Cali for months as I go to another less known place Asian fusion (review coming soon). I stopped in today and WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG??????? The tacos here remind me of my youth in Cal. brought me mentally back. I tried the four main tacos they serve, they had more types as well. I tired the chicken, steak, marinated pork & the California. The marinated pork was the best bite of it of all four, but would eat any of them again without hesitation. My daughter had the chicken enchiladas, she is a small plate eater normally, she ate the entire dish. The 2 house salsa's are packed with flavor. The aqua Fresca strawberry drink is worth stopping in for on its own, great for a hot day for sure. Made in house daily, not out of a carton or premix. Tonight we visited Taco California after it was recommended by friends....Muy Delicioso! We ordered Queso Enchilada plate with rice and beans $9.99, one Steak taco $1.50, one chicken taco with red marinade $1.50. Chile relleno plate with rice and beans $11.99, and steak quesadilla $8. We had chips with Pico De Gallo and grilled jalapeños. Everything was soooooo good. We were full after eating but already can't wait to go back to try other things too....maybe....everything was so good. The restaurant is located in the corner of a strip center and it is very small with just three tables inside. We believe the owner was also our cashier and he was very nice. They have all of the menu items you would expect at a Mexican restaurant and Minch better than most that we have experienced and the prices are great. Drinks are bottled with several Mexican sodas, coco-cola, fruit drinks like smoothies and agua frescas. I seldom give 5 stars and this place earned all five stars based on taste, price and friendliness. There is nothing fancy about this restaurant and that is just fine. I ordered the Carne Asada plate and it came exactly the way anyone that's ever visited a San Diego taco shop would expect. Beans, properly smashed, rice, thinly chopped mean with great flavor and the staple of chopped lettuce with Pico and guacamole. I ordered mine with flour tortillas and they were ok but not the big homemade style that made our burritos famous. Chips and salsa were also very good, hot and fresh out of the fryer. We knew we had a fairly good chance at success when we noticed the red and green taco sauce squirt bottles on each table.
