This may be a hot take, but this may be my favorite restaurant in Omaha. The menu is small. There are a few dips/apps, tacos, and taco bowls. But everything on the menu is perfect. The shells are crunchy but soft. The proportion of ingredients (an underrated skill for taco joints) is always perfect. Service is kind and fast. The vibe is great- it's an old bank retrofitted to serve food- though the music CAN make it difficult to carry a conversation from time to time. That's par for the course in Benson, one of the most charming neighborhoods in Omaha, though. My biggest complaint is that it's closed two days a week and never open for lunch. This is a staple for me and my friends. The place is always busy, which is a great sign of how good it is! We usually have a wait on the weekends, but there is plenty to do in Benson while waiting. Finally made it to Taco Co! They are famous among College students (21+) for their juice pouches. I opted in another route with the jalapeño margarita. The Margarita had a perfect kick with the jalapeño. We also got a piñata full of margarita which was fun for the table. I am a fan of street tacos so these puffy tacos were not for me. Since I already knew this I split the nachos with one of my friends. The nachos were amazing, I would for sure ask for extra queso since it was so good. The environment at Taco Co is AMAZING. Tourists here! My partner and I are from California where we take our tacos very seriously and this place exceeded our expectation. There's indoor and outdoor seating. We chose the outdoor but there was a strange smell from the cedar (?). Not sure, it wasn't a deal breaker but something that we did notice. We came here on a Thursday where there was happy hour all day! We got two happy hour items: small chicken nachos (4.5/5) and queso dip (5/5). We also got 2 puffy shrimp tacos and a carnitas puffy taco. Yooo the puffy tacos were something else-- they were very filling. The protein was generous and it was overall yummy! Let me preface by saying that I expected to be disappointed. I was not and what a pleasant surprise that was! Tacos are not as simple as it seems and it's really easy to mess that up. I had a carnitas taco bowl (i know right...but braces) and a cucumber marg...the drink was GOOD. I really liked the taco bowl and maybe next time will plan to order a side of sour cream and guac cause that's my business. My friends had the drink pouches and they enjoyed them (so I will try them next), they also had the tacos...which were more like chalupas. 2/5. Maybe it's just because I'm Mexican, but the birria tacos were lackluster and very underwhelming. The fried taco shell was very surprising and very thick. It was a mouthful. The meat itself was tender but had little to no flavor. I'm open to modern variations of Birria but this was truly disappointing. The consommé also had no flavor. It's become one of my favorite places to enjoy a great-tasting taco with a margarita at a reasonable price. The menu is simple - tacos, chips & dips, and margaritas. I love that it's an authentic, offshoot of Maria's in Ralston using her recipe for puffy tacos. The tacos are quite filling. I would say order one, finish it along with all the dips and chips, and then consider a second. But if you ordered too much, that's totally okay... they make for great leftovers! I'd recommend, without hesitation, the carnitas tacos. They're the best, most flavorful on the menu. Over the years, parking on the weekends in downtown Benson has become more of a challenge. Keep that in mind, if you're wanting to go like, after 6 pm. You may have to wait for a table. Or you can always get full service at the bar, there's usually space open the times we've been there. We've been regular customers since literally THE day Taco Co. opened their door. Now I hate to say they have bottom tier management and we won't be going back until we've heard they've been replaced. Requested the bar tender/to-go person (that's how they have it setup) to ensure we received extra taco sauce per our request. Bar tender said condescendingly, "of course, we always do". Your fault if you chose not to charge for extras. I literally witnessed EXPO hand my bag and another customers over. Bar tender literally never once opened my bag to verify my request. I then opened my bag to verify only one sauce had been placed in my bag. I asked the bar tender to please get me my extra taco sauces. She stated they were in the bag. I informed her I verified they were not. She attempted to pull the bag of food from my hands and say, "give it to me so I can check." I laughed and said "absolutely not". She then turned from me and said "J*s*s f'ing ch*st". Then the manager came out and attempted to argue with me but felt super proud because she had two sauces for me. I left and called as to not make a confrontation. The manager then tried to inform me I "ripped the bag from her bar tenders hands and made her cry". Sum of story, don't ask for extra sauce lol. You'll likely not get it but when you question be ready for confrontation. Management clearly does not like being questioned which they obviously negatively lead their employees to the same expectation. read more

We just wanted tacos and margaritas. Luckily, we picked the right place. Taco Co makes great tacos and margaritas. The price was right, too. Parking in Benson can be challenging if you don't know where to look, so allow for that if you're meeting someone. We hit a lot, and walked two blocks over. Hurray for good weather, The location is beautiful. Exposed brick with very tall ceilings in what was apparently a bank, judging by the vault doors that remain. You can see them from behind in the bathrooms. The layout was spacious, but they will crowd as they're justifiably popular. There's tables and a bar for seating, The staff very friendly and helpful. Our waitress was charming and deserved every nickel of the tip. We ordered the dip combo (quacamole, quest and pico de gallo), which was delicious. No leftovers on those. We also got a ten taco combo. It was delicious, and we recommend their salsa, very tasty and just the right amount of spicy, We ordered extras, and reheated today. Great leftovers. The queso was on the spicier side, but not overly hot in my opinion. It just had a little kick. The jalapeño margarita was great. They also have a cucumber margarita I wish I would have tried. The sangria was good, but too sweet for me. It comes with a popsicle so it does look pretty cool when served. For dinner we ordered a beef, steak and chicken taco, and a barbacoa taco bowl. The food was good, but underwhelming. It was basic and didn't have a ton of flavor. We arrived around six on a Friday and the wait wasn't bad, about 20 minutes. Was in the mood for puffy tacos and came by here to eat. We sat out on the patio and were was told it was a 2 hour limit to sit and eat which was fine with me. We started off with chips and queso which was pretty good. We got margaritas I got the strawberry frozen which was strong but really good also got the lemonade pouch that had some really good flavors it had jalapeño so it gave it a nice kick! Delicious! Aside from the tacos, Taco Co is known amongst the college folk for their pouch margaritas! They are a prdecent size and come in a few different flavors, make sure to ask about the specials too! Had a nice meal here on what was a busy Tuesday evening. Arrived at 7pm so I just missed the happy hour but none the less still had a nice meal. I started off with the chips and salsa. They brought a mild red salsa as well as a green Verde salsa. Both sauces were fine and very mild and the chips were just fine as well, nothing really special. There was a special...three tacos for 9.99 or two tacos for 7.99. I went with the two tacos both being beef. They were very good but I needed to add sour cream and extra mild sauce on mine. I'm not a fan of a dry taco. The shell per se is almost pastry like. If you smell it - it actually smells like a funnel cake. I love the look of the tacos and the taste was fine as well. I enjoyed myself and will make it back sometime down the road. Lastly, the menu states the tacos *start at $3.95 per taco. Great place. I come here every Tuesday for Tuesday tacos. I would highly recommend. Takes about an hour to order ahead, so just plan that way and I think sometimes on the weekends it gets really busy. I love having their house, margaritas for happy hour, but they also own Mula taco that has the jalapeño and cucumber, margaritas well, happy hour that starts at 2 o'clock at Mula and this place only opens at four. The design is very modern, with a swing set chair, and reflections of a bank from the past. First off pricing on this menu is great for anyone as nothing seems to be overpriced in any way. Overall, the Birria Taco was almost great, but it was just good. The puffy shell took away from the messy drippy hot stew meat in the taco. Also I did not enjoy the side sauce, because I was expecting more so a cup of the stew with meat and all the good stuff. Flavor structure was there just needed a bit more finesse like the cheese being crispy and full melted. The Shrimp Taco was ok, a little heavy on the crema and cheese. I was hoping for a fresh bite of seafood cold crema and pico. Finally chips and salsa, the chips are awesome and the salsas are pretty good. Ooh this is yet another favorite! If you are in the food for really good Mexican come here. They have a small menu but it's really all you need! An assortment of puffy tacos, rice, beans, guac, and queso. In the chips they give you they have these fun puffy wheels that are a spicy treat.
