Yesterday we went out with Captain JB and Allen to catch some fish and have some laughs. They crushed it! We had so much fun. Myself and my father in law brought our 7 year old twins out and they had so much fun! We started out hunting for some big fish and caught a HUGE golden hammerhead. Of course we let it go but not before we got some great photos and saw the look on the kids' face. Then we got some reels in the twins' hands and started pulling in a bunch of Bonita's and black fin tuna. One after another...bite,bite,bite! The whole time Captain JB and Allen got the kids involved, shared safety lessons, lots of stories. I would definitely definitely head out with Taco's crew again. read more

Went fishing with Capt Taco on 2/7/22. Capt Taco and Dan worked hard to put us on the fish. I was able to cross off a bucket list fist after landing a nice Golden Tile fish. Boat was clean and comfortable and had all the amenities you would need. Dan worked hard all day to keep the boat spotless for us while teaching me a new fishing technique. This IS the BEST of the BEST! I went out with Taco and his crew for a 4hr shared charter. He put us on top of fish the whole time. Add in some kites attached to bait and we were catching like crazy. Deep sea fishing They had everything we needed all we had to do is show up and bring snacks and drinks. They were super accommodating and helpful with our three little kids. Rusty was playful with them showing the bait showing them the ropes. Boat was clean and organized (I didn't feel like anyone was going to step on any loose hooks & didn't have that fishy smell some boats have to them). The trip was me, my wife, and my twin boys (14 yrs old) Leading up to our day: We reserved the morning 4hr charter on Aug 10th. The experience from beginning to end was great. Taco was very responsive to texts and answered all of my questions leading up to our day of fishing. We met the boat at the Hilton marina and parked at the hotel. It was close and cheap to park. Our experience: Capt. Mike and First Mate Dan were early and there to support us getting on the boat. We've been on a few charter fishing trips so we had a good idea of what to expect. Mike and Dan exceeded our expectations. They asked what we wanted to get out of the trip and set a course. We caught several tuna, king mackerel, and a couple bonito. Dan was great with my sons. He made sure we got great photos throughout the day. Dan and Mike shared fun stories about previous charters and kept us entertained throughout our four hours. At the end of the trip, Dan cleaned the tuna and mackele, gave us a couple recommendations for restaurants that would blacken, fry, and sushimi the fish. I recently went a Charter for a friend's birthday and this was the selected choice. The Hooked Up is docked by the Hilton (right by Boat Yard), which makes it an easy location to get too. Taco is the owner and guide. Great personality and you could tell he takes a tremendous amount of pride in his business. We didn't catch anything on that day, but there was a ton of a seaweed and that is fishing.... so, I get it. No the end of the world as I've fished my whole life. Either way, it was a decent experience and would do it again. My big knock on this vessel is that you can't control the music. The moment we tried to play what we wanted he got upset and told us to turn it off. No offense, but if I pay to be chartered we should be able to at least play some music... especially when the fishing is slow. read more

My 2 kids (13 and 10) and I chartered with Captain Taco for a day of fishing while on spring break. When I spoke with Captain Taco the night before our trip to confirm everything was still on, he told me about a rare catch they had the day before of a 1000lb Great White in the waters off of Ft Lauderdale. Because of the media attention, he would not be available and we would have to fish with his son, Captain Lou aboard his other Hooked Up boat. Captain Taco met with us at the dock and introduced us to Lou and Mate Mike. Since Lou and Taco were concerned about the weather and windy conditions, Lou suggested some near shore kite fishing. He explained we could hook into some decent fish without heading far out. Let me tell you, if first impressions mean anything, I knew we were in for a good day. As we headed out, it was rough and windy although the kids seemed to enjoy the 30 minute ride over the waves. As we arrived at the fishing grounds, Mike explained what we should expect. Soon after, he and Lou had kites in the air and 4 lines in the water searching for shark or sailfish. It didn't take 20 minutes until our first line had a fish on. Since my daughter was sitting in the fighting chair, she took the rod from Mike and it was "game on" with a sailfish. After a 10 minute fight, several jumps out of the water and help from Mike, the 6-7 foot sailfish was on the side of the boat and released to fight another day. Without skipping a beat, Mike and Lou had lines back in the water and searching for our next catch. My son soon hooked into a beautiful Black Fin tuna. As I thought our day was coming to an end, Capt Lou had other ideas. Dropping two lines into the water as we headed back through the inlet, my son finished the day fighting with a Bonita. Based on my experience with Captain Taco, Captain Lou, Mate Mike and as a parent and avid fisherman, I recommend them if you're in the area and want to go out for a great day of fishing. Booked an appointment for 12:30 on a Friday afternoon. We were running a bit late but they had everything prepared for us ready to go. We set out and after we got in the open water, they put all the lines out (5 I think). We were a little bummed out that we didn't catch anything after spending $550, plus another $80 in tips. It's understandable that you can't get lucky all the time, and I know they tried their best...but another boat who docked right next to us caught a handful. They definitely can be a little pushy about making sure they get their 20% tip. Not sure if I would give these guys another shot. $550 spot, and caught 1 small barracuda, what a waste of money. read more

Taco's is pretty good. I recommend that you grab some seasickness medication prior to the trip. We got rolled by seven-footers for most of the four-hour tour. :) I may not fish again for that reason. If you have any questions, be sure to get a hold of Taco. He's very friendly and will answer all of your questions. Most of the boats in the Marina there seem to be friendly with and have good things to say about one another. They seem to work together a bit and Taco will try to help you get on a boat if he's not available. There is a little convenience shop to grab coffee if you are early. Parking is very limited, so get there ahead of time. Tell them what you are interested in catching so that they can help to accommodate you. read more

This place is Amazing. Walking by the fishing charters talking to people and looking at vouchers the captain yells at me "you wana go fishing". He dropped the price I agreed and we hoped on bored and off we went. On our 4 nourishing trip. It started of slow they tried every way theycould to helps us git a fish. After a few hours they switched to kite fishing. It was Amazing like flying a kite over a ocean just as thought we wouldn't catch anything my line spins like crazy and I have a 88" sail fish on my line and o how Amazing it looked as out jumped of the water. We got it in and so we decided to git it mounted I plan to add the photo of me and the deck hand with the fish. It was amazing go here its worth the money. When we show up for a trip we have brief conversation but what type of fishing I'd like to do. I always go for trolling because I'm here for big game. Taco explains the Techniques that was going to apply and if that doesn't work he'll tell you what he's going to do the switch it up. Went out this morning for my husband's 40th birthday. We had the pleasure of having Captain Greg and deckhand Jake. I was worried when trying to find a charter because there are so many out there. I called around for a week until I came upon Hooked Up. We left the dock promptly at 8:00am and were fishing immediately after we cleared the inlet. Two other single guys joined us on the trip that were very laid back and just out to have fun like us. We each took turns when we got a bite and that worked out great. We caught a few each and had a blast. We caught kingfish, bonitas, amberjack, and barracuda. Jake was baiting the hooks as soon as he had the fish off them. Captain Greg's wife was up top for the rise and she was such a sweet lady and joy to talk to. I really can't say enough great things about this outfit. Booked a charter with Taco's crew, and was pretty underwhelmed with the experience. First off, I was under the assumption that we would be sailing with Capt Taco. When we arrived, another man, who had a completely different accent than the man I spoke with on the phone, claimed he was Capt. Taco. The real Capt Taco turned up a bit later, but with no explanation why the first guy also introduced himself as Capt. Taco. That should have been the first red flag. The other party in our group was nearly 45 min late, so we set sail late. They did not give us additional time at the end of the trip to make up for this. This was particularly galling because when I called to tell Capt Taco that we were about 5 min late, he scolded me, saying it wasn't fair to the other party that we were late. That other party hadn't even turned up yet, and wouldn't for nearly an hour! We were given a hard sell on purchasing extra bait, though this did not result in catching anything other than several bonitos through a half day fishing trip. I don't fault the crew for this, as they have no control over what we catch. In any case, I was under the impression that we could take our catch home to eat. We were told by the crew that bonito is poor eating, but they'd clean it for us anyway. I didn't notice this initially or I'd have spoken up, but my partner noticed that they did not actually cut from the fish we caught. They cut from a fish that was from a previous trip. This was obvious because that fish they pulled out of a cooler was already missing its head, and as far as I know, we did not catch any headless fish that day! We didn't know how old that fish was, so we did not end up eating it. read more

We chartered "Hooked Up" this past Sunday (2/27/11). Sunny and 80 degrees, we began kite fishing with live Google-eye fish about 1.5 miles offshore. The crew (Greg and JJ) mentioned that the waves were unusually strong, but with winds out of the SE we should have a good chance at catching some big fish. We anticipated an exciting ride on the ocean, but what we came away with were memories to last a lifetime! Forty-five minutes into our trip, Bill reeled in an 7 ft Sailfish! Half an hour later, John pulled in an 7 ft Hammerhead shark. We hired capt taco for a an afternoon trip of four hours and couldn't have been more pleased. Both the captain and the mate zach were a pleasure to be around and treated our crew of six to a wonderful day of sail fishing. We trolled for about 1.5 hours with no luck, then capt started calling his buddies and put us on the fish. Up went the kites and we had a chance to see how it's done. Zach worked the kites like a pro with our goggle eye bait and we landed a huge 6 foot sail fish. It was everything we expected from a chartered fishing trip. The conditions were less than optimal but they worked their butts off to make sure we were successful for our trip. Came to Fort Lauderdale for a conference. My group and I have no experience fishing. Called and spoke with Taco, I told him my concerns about not knowing much about the sport. Captain Joe took us aboard and treated us very well. Taco the elusive legend himself called to make certain we found them okay. Within the first 5 minutes we pulled in 3 mackerel. Pulled in a Bonita, a barracuda and another mackerel. Since we were doing so awesome we gave the big stuff a shot. Last couple minutes of the trip we caught a hammerhead. It was a beautiful thing. Captain Joe was dancing around giddy as a boat captain can be. But the coolest thing was the respect the captain and first mate had for us and our catch. I don't write reviews for places but I'm writing my first one now to tell you how horrible this experience was. $150 a person, there were 3 of us that went thinking we would catch something and caught absolutely NOTHING, not one single fish. We spent more than half of our 4 hour trip trying to catch bait. When I asked the captain about it, all he said was "we can't help you, it's all about luck." Then when we got back to the dock, we saw multiple charters bring back big fish they caught for other families which made me even more mad. The whole experience was a joke and waste of money.
