First of all the staff was amazing so that's why it's atleast worth a star. However the quality, preparation and taste is God awful. I ordered a 2 taco meal with a drink. The food here has no taste. My meat was chewy and a head of cabbage was basically thrown onto the taco. The shredded cheese smelled spoiled and is not the proper cheese for a taco. I would not recommend the tacos here. By far, the best Mexican food in Billings. Bar none. Their soft corn beef tacos are loaded with meat, lettuce and cheese. This is one of the few tacos I've eaten that "stays together" and doesn't fall all over the place. Their "hot" sauce is to die for and for once, it's HOT. If only this place had a decent atmosphere, tables and chairs. It's very cafeteria looking. If this place was in a nice restaurant with a bar and full liquor license it would be an absolute gold mine. What's funny is Billings has some gorgeous Mexican restaurants that unfortunately think good Mexican is dry pork on rice with a side of beans. This place is truly a culinary delight. I would describe them as delicious plates of melted beef cheese pools. I am not sure why they taste so amazing. I have attempted to copy the recipe several times without success. The tacos are very good. They are fat, and filled with beef, lettuce, and processed cheese. That is about it. The corn shells are soft and oily. Perfect. The atmosphere however, truly sucks. The decor is ugly and lazy. White restaurant walls are adorned with a smattering of cheap Mexican cliches. A television is blaring away by the counter. Stacks of crappy trade magazines sit on metal racks near the pop machine. The tables are often uncleaned for more than ten minutes. I can't recommend spending a lot of time in the restaurant. Ah, Taco Treat... A Montana institution - well at least as far as I'm concerned! I really enjoy the food here - great tacos, cheese crisps, nachos, and other Mexican selections. It's good food served fast, not fast food. Though it's nothing fancy (and isn't trying to be), it's quite enjoyable, and the folks that work there are friendly. Being from bozeman and not having a taco treat in our town, we always make a point to eat here when we are in Billings. Today's experience was the first time Iv ever had a bad experience, for starters the girl at the counter had no personality, I said thank you to her and she just stared at me, I guess she was expecting a tip and when I didn't give her one she got pissed. First you should never expect a tip and if you are somewhat polite and say thank you back or your welcome then I just might have tipped her. As I ate my tacos I watched her interaction with the next customers, one guy who was all dirty and disheveled she was nice to, another lady who looked like she was on drugs, the cashier was nice to her too. So I concluded that either a - she was just a bitch, or b- she expected a tip. There was another girl there working the counter as well and she was just fine, friendly and nice. I'm not sure what the first girls problem was, but it pissed me off. I had to go up to the counter and get a new cup for my soda as because of this COVID shit you can't refill your cup, which is fine. When I asked miss personality for a new cup ( I said please) she handed me one and turned away- I said thank you anyhow,because I was raised with manners, unlike her. Maybe she should find another job if she's so unhappy there. On the plus side the food was good, so that's why I give it a four star. read more

The main gripe I have with TT is the cheese they use..., it's like velveeta or american and to me that's no bueno!!! Ummmm.... It must be because I am not a Montana native. I drive by here all the time and wondered what taco treat was but I am picky about Mexican food so I wasn't ready to take a chance. Then I read Buzz's review. Sounded amazing and I was excited to see it so full of people. The gals at the counter were so nice and helpful with any questions we had and that was great. Then the food came out... The best part of my meal was the fry bread that my Indian taco came on. Though the flavor of fried dough is good no matter where you are. Other than that our meal had a familiar nastiness to it that I couldn't quite place. Then it hit me! My school cafeteria! Everything was bland and tasted terrible. The hot sauce was okay but I had to go get ranch to add something to it... Then my wife stole my ranch and put it on her taco (I've never seen her do that). She fed some of the bean paste (retried beans) to our 9 mo old and he liked them alright. We laughed about how wrong buzz was... Especially coming from a guy who has been around in Arizona. The food was one star but the girls at the counter were super nice which made it two. This is not Mexican, you can get better flavor at Taco Bell or Taco Johns. Now the place was packed and several people referenced it as their favorite place so maybe if you don't have a palate for real Mexican or if you like bland mass produced products then this place may work out. Maybe it's a Montana thing that I know nothing about. I do know this... When we were talking with another couple about it (also not Montana natives), they were having trouble trying to describe their experience and when I mentioned school cafeteria she said "yes, that's it. I wouldn't have been able to place it " (btw, she is a school teacher). Very friendly staff usually. The orders always arrive in a couple minutes so they make the wait minimal. The taste is terrific. Prices are a bit high for lunch, usually $8-10, prefer to keep mine under $6 but two tacos usually isn't enough. Will always keep coming back though, unique to Montana. read more

I grew up in Great Falls and have eaten Taco Treat food for 40 years. It is absolutely my favorite place to eat. People who grew up in GF would certainly agree. The tacos are tasty, the beef cheese crisps dynamite and the beef enchiladas magnificent. I agree that if this was in a larger locale with some atmosphere and a full bar, it would make a fortune (think Amigo Lounge in Great Falls). Best place ever. read more

First off, I thought Taco Treat used to use Land O Lakes cheese? Maybe not anymore, but I personally think the creamy cheese is what sets them apart. I live out of state now, but always stop and get tacos on Grand Ave on my way to the airport. There are many Mexican options down here, and I have yet to have found this flavor! The corn beef tacos are to die for, but even though it is a buck or so more, you have to try the flour! I have never had a dry or bad taco shell, like I usually get at Taco Bell! I also recommend the cheese crisp and cheese enchilada. I like mine with no onions and I think they still pre make a few each day without onions just for picky eaters like me! We love Taco Treat! I worked at one of the Treats in Great Falls so was happy to find one in Billings when we moved. For those saying the cheese is velveeta, it is not, it is American Cheese, not processed cheese food junk. It might not be authentic Mexican but it is good food! Had an awesome lunch! One of the few places that has adapted to being friendly for sensitive diet (gluten intolerance). Owner operated and super friendly staff. Love the corn taco special and prices are more than reasonable! We will be back many many times for sure!!! read more
