I called needing an emergency appointment, was seen the very next day, and was scheduled for oral surgery just a few days later. Dr. Kang, Dr. Ellis, and their entire staff were incredibly friendly, efficient, and compassionate. They worked hard to make sure I got my smile back almost exactly as it was before. When there was a tiny hiccup along the way (that wasn't even their fault!), they were quick to make it right. I had spent a long time avoiding the dentist because I was afraid of being judged. I recently had a crown service and Dr. Kang and dental assistant Sadaf worked collaboratively to deliver excellent results. This is my husband's dentist and it meets his dental needs. We found it about a year ago when he was having some pain in his mouth. They were so wonderful in giving him such gentle care. He does not want to leave his dentist. Well I do not blame him. It is in a great area errand to run light errands before his appointment or afterwards. It is near Safeway and Ace Hardware. But we are going to focus on how professional these ladies are to my dear husband. The doctor is such a sweetheart and keeps my husband informed of his care and involves me too. This is a plus. The waiting area is very nice and offers coffee for those who are waiting. That is such a sweet and kind gesture. They also let my little son pick some prizes from their treasure chest. Now that was awesome seeing that he was just waiting with for his father's visit too. They make the patient and their family feel welcome. This is a place full of hospitality. I also recommend this place too. So here is a dentist to consider too. It is in an awesome area near a shopping plaza. And the neighborhood is pretty decent. My husband has had such a great experience here that he has considered this his place to receive regular dental care and cleanings. I went to this dental office for an exam, cleaning, and some fillings. During my visit, they informed me that I needed a lot more work done on my teeth than I originally thought. They even offered to complete it all on the same day. After finishing the work, I paid my full balance. However, 2-3 weeks later, I received a bill for a couple of hundred dollars for work that I had not planned on having done and thought was included in my initial payment. I made the appointment at Tacoma Smiles for 10/21/25. When I was making the appointment, I was assured that my insurance WAS taken at their office. We arrived on time at the clinic when everyone at the front desk was done playing with a baby that was behind the desk. I understand that because I would be playing with the baby too, but not when 2 costumers were standing there. I told the receptionist that whoever I made my appointment assured me that the clinic took my insurance. She said that it was a third party appointment setter. I want to know if they really have a business hour third party appointment setter. Then she asked for my insurance card and I gave it to her, this was all while I was in horrible pain and needed help, and the receptionist was sitting there smiling and I was told I could come back at a later date but that day they would have to charge me $89.00, but I could come back and it would be free. I am recovering from breast cancer and a double mastectomy, and it's not easy doing anything right now, but was turned away anyways. I made a different appointment date but I'm canceling my new appointment. And won't be calling them back. Think about what other people are going through in their life, I didn't want to be there because of other things (breast cancer & double mastectomy). read more

If I could give no stars I would have. I was told that my teeth needed a thousand dollars with of work. I paid it but come to find out it was a scam. Not only that but they did not reimburse me for my over payment. My insurance paid more than they thought so I am due a refund but did not receive anything back. Strongly advise against using this practice. I came in for a regular cleaning, waited around for close to an hour, and when I was finally seen I was told I needed extensive and expensive dental treatment. I was afraid I was getting upsold, so I consulted with another dentist who advised that the treatment prescribed by this practice was not clinically indicated. I'm glad I sought a second opinion before agreeing to the numerous appointments, invasive treatments, and thousands of dollars (before insurance) in care pushed on me here. read more

I went here for a check up and a cleaning. I was told I had many cavities AND needed a root canal. They wanted to do all the work that day but I said I wanted to get a 2nd opinion. I went to 2 other dental offices, they even requested my xrays from this dentist and I only had 1 very small cavity and didn't need any root canals. They wanted to charge me $6k for the 10 cavities (that I didn't have) and the 1 root canal (that I didn't have) I was able to get my 1 very small cavities fixed along with a cleaning for $30! I went to Tacoma Smiles in May to get my teeth cleaned. I needed to do this before I could get additional dental care from another dentist. I explained my situation when I made the appointment. When I got there they claimed to have no knowledge of that call. Because I thenneeded my teeth cleaned at that time, I went ahead with the service. They said that they needed to take X-rays . I said I didn't want x-rays taken. They insisted and said that they wouldn't charge me. That was stated more than once. They then took every kind of x-ray available to them. During this whole experience, I felt like I was being rammed through without having the time or ability to think things through. Upon leaving, with my mouth numbed, I was asked to write a review, which the office manager completed. Less than 2 weeks later I received a bill for 80.00 for, Yes, x-rays. The NO CHARGE x-rays. Less than 2 months later, this 80.00 bill is with a collection agency. If you decide to go there, BEWARE. I will NEVER set foot in there again. read more

I walked in a few minutes before my appointment time. I could feel the smile of the receptionist Stephanie under her mask. She had me sign the usual consent to treat, privacy laws and insurance billing paperwork. Stephanie then brought be right back to a room. She gave me the right estimate of when the next person would be with me. I had my xrays done by another very sweet young lady that brought me to the X-ray room. The Dentist tech/Assitant woman was also very caring and let me take the time between rays I needed for my jaw test and chance to breath. I found the dentist to be fun and congenial. He congratulated me on my excellent oral hygiene. (30 plus years no cavities!) My cleaning was gentle and thorough. Dentist even cracked a joke or two. Clean bathrooms, nice staff. I verified they have a 24 hour call center that can book very quickly (usually next morning or that day) for dental emergencies. I highly recommend. read more

I went in to get full extractions and dentures. I got told I would pay $600 after my insurance covered most of extractions, then after my teeth were removed, it went up to $2400! Then I got told that the $2400 bill would be all I got charged because my dentures were "fully covered by my insurance" I just got ANOTHER $1400 bill (and didnt get this one until right after the $2400 bill was paid in full). The care was decent, but my dentures dont fit right still and now i feel like wont help me after i dispute this new bill.... just a bad experience all around. read more

We arrived 30 minutes early yet the dentist was over 30 minutes late to see my father. No introduction or explanation why. She made no effort to treat clients and patients families with respect, care and empathy. I was appalled by the lack of communication as well as basic courtesy. I hadn't been to the dentist in many years and was worried about returning. Dr. Skipper made me feel totally comfortable and no one there made a big deal about how long it had been since I had seen a dentist. Hands down the best dentist I have ever been in contact with. My son had a dentist emergency, they got us in same day, and were the most amazing care team to my five year old so . I could not have asked for a better and more relaxing experience. And although they could only refer us to a pediatric dentist, they still prescribed antibiotics and set up our federal appointment for us while we were still in office. I recently visited this office for a bothersome wisdom tooth and it turned out I needed a little more work than I had suspected. I'm new to the area and had been looking for a dentist. When my crown came out, I was intrigued by the "new crown in 2 hours" sign so I decided to call. From the first interaction on the phone, through my most recent visit, the staff was kind, knowledgeable and professional. The office also has state-of-the art equipment. And yes, I got a new crown in 2 hours (that looks amazing...you can't tell it's not my real tooth). Dr. Albers takes time to ask if there are questions and takes the time to answer thoughtfully. Dr. Albers, Stephanie, and Brianne are a great team! Went back for my exam and cleaning today; same excellent service. I should note too, that they are very conscious of precautions for COVID-19 -- temperature checks, socially distanced patient check-ins, etc. -- so I felt very well cared for throughout both visits. One other thing to add, though I didn't use this service. They do offer payment plans which seems like a nice change from other dental offices that insist on insurance or payment at time of the procedure. All in all, I highly recommend Tacoma Smiles.
