I dream about their Tampequena. Best I have ever had! Food was delicious and the drinks were awesome. The service and hospitality it unmatched. They make you feel like you are family. Even though it's off the beaten path, honestly it was one of the most memorable meals I had in my two week stay in SMA. Go soon and let them take care of you and feed you and you'll leave with your belly and heart full.

Tacos Don Felix is worth a trip for the amazing views (if you sit on the top floor), atmosphere and the huge margaritas. Not many vegetarian options here but I enjoyed the huitaloche enchiladas (even though it's technically a fungus that grows on corn- don't knock it 'til you've tried it). The restaurant is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood called Indepencia, a ways from the center of town.

Every time i eat here i try to order something new, and every time i try something new i leave saying "that was by far the best thing I've had yet!" Tacos, enchiladas, pollo de la casa, any appetizer... phenomenal. One of the best restaurants in SMA. Staff is tremendous and the atmosphere is also great. Would not miss eating here when you visit. I also added the hours in one of the photos since it's not listed on the yelp page.

Don Felix was very nice as were the entire staff. It is really kind of cool as you have to walk a ways from town center through a neighborhood and some side streets then suddenly you turn a corner and there it is, looking very welcoming. (We were slightly aware that we were walking about a mile outside the "tourist zone", at night and a little drunk... everyone will tell you how safe you are in most of SMA but there sure are a lot of spikes on fences and bars on windows. (Those same people will admit that you have to be aware of your surroundings at night in any city.)) The food and drink... -The complimentary tortilla with chicken/verde sauce (see picture) was really good. -I was hoping for better tacos (that IS the name of the place)... the were really good but not the best ever...the beef ones were a little gristle-y, not great beef. BUT, the fact that you get a plate with seven small-to-medium-sized tacos for (if memory serves me) around $9 (US), is super reasonable. And they came with all the fixin's... onion, salsas, cilantro, etc. -My sister and wife (that's two different people, by the way) seemed to enjoy their big-ass margaritas and it seemed like a generous pour of my Don Julio Reposado.

    Really F-ing awesome..tres popostres

Best authentic Mexican food in San Miguel. Worth the short drive out of the centro zone. Enchiladas are a must!

We knew about this taco cart from PBS celebrity chef Pati Jinich as part of her travels to SMA. One of three stellar spots she recommended, the other two were Los Milagros (review: https://yelp.to/Akl564fa67) and San Agustin Chocolates y Churros (review: https://yelp.to/odzpLVN7Fg). It was about 9PM when we arrived, a good thing since they don't start firing up the grill until 7PM every evening. The seats were already filled, and there was a distinct vibe that this was a hangout for devoted regulars. We weren't aware that the full name of the business is Andy's Pastor Taco Cart even though Pati even talked about the pastor in the video clip. In fact, the prominent vertical spit was made of their specialty pastor made of thinly sliced pork shoulder. The differentiator is that it's marinated in a mixture of dried chiles (ancho, guajillo, chipotle), achiote paste, citrus juices (lime and pineapple), vinegar, and pronounced spices like cumin and oregano. Alas, we instead for a couple of the MX$35 Carne Asada Tacos (Photo 8). No question they were quite tasty but probably no better than any other popular taqueria in town. We'll just have to come back to San Miguel de Allende and do right by Andy. Sorry Pati. FOOD - 4 stars...top flight taco even if it wasn't their signature one AMBIANCE - 4 stars...convivial space on the street even though there were no seats for us SERVICE - 3.5 stars...they're quick...wish they marketed their pastor more prominently TOTAL - 4 stars...Andy deserves another visit someday RELATED - Exploring San Miguel de Allende? Came here when they just opened at around 7:20pm and was able to get some delicious tacos with no line which was great! - Bistek Taco - I really appreciate that the meats were bursting with flavor and that the beef was quite tender. At first glance, the bistek and the costilla seemed pretty similar, but you definitely could taste the steak chunks in there. - Costilla Taco - This was definitely the highlight of the three tacos and the best taco I've had in Mexico thus far, granted I've only eaten it at 3 different places. The meat was so well marinated and went very well with the tortilla and onions. - Campechanos Taco - I was not as big of a fan of this one as the meat had a reddish look to them and a spice that I was not very familiar with. Could skip. Overall, highly recommend both the costilla and bistek tacos. Also they were so affordable too at 75 pesos for 3! Definitely should not miss out when in SMA.

We ran the gamut of bars in Zona Centro, and this spot made a fitting finale since it was the most high-end spot we visited. Only a half-block from the social epicenter of Jardin Allende, it provides a nice view of the top of the parroquia from their rooftop terrace where we were seated (Photo 3). The restaurant definitely had a more refined ambiance than the previous four places. We could tell it was a popular spot among wealthy American expats because the ambient voices sounded more like Chicago than Mexico. No Spanish, just English. The cocktail was a tangy treat though, a Tamarind Margarita (Photo 8), and the Jicama Taco was a satisfying veggie ending to our evening (Photo 10). First, he brought out a very big bowl of tortilla chips. They were excellent as was the accompanying pico de gallo. I had the chicken street tacos, which were also terrific. She went to this particular traditional restaurant known for their signature dish, Molcajete. The term first refers to a Mexican mortar bowl made of basalt volcanic rock standing on three stubby legs. The same term also refers to the food inside. It's quite simple because it's all about the ingredients and the execution. Jamie W and I ordered the MX$550 Mix Volcanic Bowl where they grilled large amounts of arrachera (skirt steak), chicken, and cecina (cured beef) while heating up the molcajete. The meat was then layered in the bowl along with nopales (cactus), green onion, chiles, peppers, and queso blanco cheese. A spicy green chile verde sauce was drizzled all over the gluttonous mix (Photo 7). Fresh guacamole and creamy refried beans were served on the side (Photo 4). A stack of freshly made tortillas was provided in order to gorge on all of the hearty indulgence which continues to stream well after its arrival at the table. The total amount could've easily served four ravenous people with both the arrachera and nopales the delectable standouts. Out of blissful ignorance, we both ordered salads as if the volcanic bowl wasn't going to satisfy us. Jamie had the MX$135 Mixed Salad with lettuce, grape tomatoes, cucumber slices, red onion, pasilla chiles, mushrooms, and a rosette of avocado slices (Photo 8). I went with the MX$200 House Salad with lettuce, hearts of palm, cubes of chihuahua cheese, green olives, grape tomatoes, and red onion (Photo 9). Both were more than freshly satisfying as we were filling up on housemade tortilla chips with red salsa and fresh pico de gallo (Photo 5). The space was cavernous with plenty of room for large parties as families converged on this place. We could totally envision live music performances in here, especially with a long, fully stocked bar beckoning. Although I've seen mocajetes on random Mexican menus around San Francisco, I agree with Pati that this type of place would be quite successful stateside. If you're planning a trip to San Miguel de Allende, I recommend following Pati's advice. FOOD - 5 stars...a deliciously eruptive volcanic bowl AMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...huge space, plenty of room during off-peak hours SERVICE - 4.5 stars...efficient and quite accommodating TOTAL - 5 stars...trust Pati on this one RELATED - Exploring San Miguel de Allende?
