First time stopping into this Tacos El Amish location (us gringos pronounce it "Ehlll Ahh-meeesh") and it was awesome... Great little authentic taqueria up on the far northeast side of town. We've been to the restaurant on Broadway (which is good), but the Harlan location is better. Both locations are owned by the same family and you can tell they work their butts off to offer a quality product to their customers. The Broadway location is "tacos only" (nothing else), where as Harlan offers all your traditional Mexican fare. We got tacos, beans, and rice, and it was excellent... Our favorite taqueria in town is Rigo's down in Waynedale, but this location gives them a run for their money. Their tacos here are absolute fire, they stuff them silly full, and they offer up four different types of salsas (they've got some damn kick, so be careful) with cucumbers and radishes. The one thing we really like is they don't overly salt any of their food unlike other taquerias around town. You know this place is good when you're the only gringos eating there... Add in friendly/service, fair/reasonable prices, cool authentic/old school looking design inside, and Tacos El Amish is a hidden gem. If you're up on the northeast side of town, this little taqueria is worth the stop... You will not be disappointed (unless you don't like authentic Mexican food). read more

Hands down the best Mexican restaurant we've found since moving to Fort Wayne. The guacamole was made to order and fantastic. The (large) Steak and sausage burrito was delicious and came with a ridiculously large portion of very flavorful meat - and a great mole gravy/sauce. My wife had the steak tacos and really enjoyed them, too. 4 great salsas served with the meal, too - all very flavorful with varying levels of heat. The service was excellent, too. Friendly and willing to work with us on food allergies/sensitivities. This place is definitely worth checking out. We're 25 minutes away on the northwest side of Fort Wayne and plan to make the trip next time we are looking for great Mexican food. read more

Best Mexican I've had in Fort Wayne yet! Definitely authentic (they have cow tongue as a protein option). They bring out sliced cucumbers and radishes in place of chips, which was interesting but actually a good idea. They were cool and refreshing and a good way to try the (homemade) salsas. My boyfriend and I both had the burritos. He had a large with pork (it was HUGE!!), and I had the regular size which was definitely plentiful and absolutely stuffed with meat, no fillers (I had chicken). Rice and beans were good and fresh. I agree with others that the service is pretty spotty; we were left alone after being served and had to ask where the bill was (you pay up front, which would be nice to know). We tried this place and loved it! We had the cow tongue, the chicken, the corn, the steak, the pork and the bbq tacos and loved every one of them!! It tasted like authentic Mexican. Was really excited to try this place, but it was very disappointing. I tried three different tacos, all incredibly bland. My husband had a burrito, also very bland. No chips and salsa was a little odd but I could've looked past that had the food been good. The service was also shotty, nobody tells you they don't bring you a bill, you're supposed to just know that you walk up front and they ring you up. Also an up charge for using a credit card, this is posted nowhere. I imagine a health inspector would also have a heyday with this place. They bring every table limes in a bowl, no less than 10 lime wedges, I would bet money they use those limes for table after table, adding more to the top, so now you get to use the same limes other fingers already touched. Same goes for the sauces they bring you in bowls. I also saw these on each table and am confident that don't dump and clean the serving trays and bowls between each table. We ordered chips and guacamole which were tasty, but the chips come in a wicker basket with no paper lining. You can't clean a wicker basket, AND there were shriveled pieces of meat in the bottom of our basket. We won't be back. read more
