We are out of towners who stopped in because of high Yelp reviews and a taco craving and we were really happy with our experience! The steak taco platter was a really good deal for lots of food, and the steak was really generous, tender, and flavorful. The refried beans were also very well done and worth ordering the platter to get those. The chips and guacamole were super fresh and flavorful. All the food is way worth the price because the prices are so fair. The ambience was small and cozy and staff got our food out in less than 2 minutes. Don't be fooled by the unassuming outside. At Famous Taco...dinner mets tacos. The facility is rather small and intimate. Everyone sits close together. The outside isn't much to attract you. However, the tacos are really good! The inside has your traditional Mexican decor. The place is clean and has plenty of people to serve. The food is basically prepared in advance. So service is very fast. The chips are made on site and fresh. They are served warm and in a big pile. The chips is moderately thin and mildly greasy. The guacamole was very creamy and smooth. It didn't have much spice nor a strong guacamole taste. Overall...very good! The three taco entre was very tasty. I had the chorizo, carnitas and barbacoa. All three meats were very tasty. Today, starved and looking for some good Mexican food for lunch, my boyfriend and I stopped by The Famous Taco. He hadn't been for a while and he remembered their food being really good in the past. He needn't have worried because the food was delicious. I ordered 2 steak tacos with cheese and sour cream. Though I could have used more sour cream, the flavor was really good. The meat was well-cooked and tasted really good and my refried beans were tasty. My boyfriend's taco salad was very satisfying and he left completely satisfied. The horchata was good, though it was kind of warm when we got it. After some of the ice melted, it was really good. The flavor was nice and the milk was creamy. The service was good and the ambiance was pretty relaxed. You definitely don't need to dress up to visit! Overall, this was a successful trip and we can't wait to return. read more

Off the beaten path this cozy authentic Mexican restaurant, really surprised us. They probably have about a dozen tables and the food is prepared in front of you. We tried the El Pastore, chorizo, steak and lengue tacos. All very good. Also did their chips and salsa as well as the guacamole. The salsa was perfect. Maybe could've used a bit more spice but that's a matter of individual taste. The guacamole was fresh. Another person in our party had the vegetable burrito and it was perfect. A couple years ago I visited this "authentic Mexican joint". For some reason I didn't write a review. Since that time I have wanted to return but the name of this little place was lost in the ether of my cluttered mind. We were driving on Clinton St and the sign for The Famous Taco caught my eye! It was the place that I have sought! Hitting the breaks we pulled into the big parking lot. Everything was as we remembered. Fresh chips that were perfect for the warm queso, and excellent guacamole. I had three lengua tacos and refried beans topped with Mexican crème! My esposa had ground beef on hers and an order of Spanish rice. The table was littered with various hot sauces and homemade green and red sauce....with some kick. We ordered a couple of pork and chicken tamales for Netflix snack later. The service was great and the plates and utensils plastic. Nothing fancy here just great street food!!! We will return as the name The Famous Taco is seared in my mind and tastebuds. read more

Wife and I were driving around Fort Wayne, doing some shopping, enjoying the day, when...we wanted some tacos. You know the feeling. REAL tacos. So we did a isearch and found this and thought, lets do it. First thing you notice, parking lot is full. Good sign. Walk in. Clean. Neat. Not fancy. But the kitchen...it's right there and you walk by everything on the way to order. Wow! (I deleted my first comment to keep it nice). Suggest everthing, but start with a 2-taco platter and some guacamole dip. Highly recommend guac dip. Salsa very good too but its a smooth blend type. Got some heat to it too. Best tacos (lots of lime/cilantro/onion) we've had in a long time. Shredded beef (Barbacoa I think its called). Also had chorizo and chicken, but beef was the best. Order at the counter, then have a seat and they bring it to you. Oh wait, and....they have beer and margaritas! Almost hate to let everyone know about it. Just remember to tip well! Easy to miss if you aren't looking, but they have such good street tacos! This is our family's favorite for takeout tacos. They even have a drive thru! Tacos come with cilantro and onion and a choice of mild or hot salsa for the side. Their rice and beans are also super good. I've driven by the building for quite some time now and just never noticed it. A group of us decided to go here instead of El Amish for National Taco Day purely because of the central location to us all. It definitely didn't disappoint! If you're searching for "the best tacos in Fort Wayne", I would put them right up there with El Amish. The thing I liked is they had a lot more options (especially if you're going with picky eaters, or just want something more than just tacos). They offer everything from their authentic taco selection to plates to a kids menu to desserts. I ordered the carnitas, pastor, & chorizo tacos on corn tortillas. All were incredibly good, but the pastor was to die for! We also tried the guacamole and queso with chips. The guac was good but a little bland for our liking (lacked any spice, but did have quite a bit of cilantro). The queso was awesome with a really nice kick/spice. I agree with other Yelpers, this is a good spot for tacos and other authentic Mexican food. The short story: I enjoyed an excellent chorizo taco and a filling but bland chicken burrito. It was busy at lunchtime, and the four employees were giving it their best shot. Patrons were helping bus the tables so they have a place to sit down. That's Fort Wayne politeness, doncha think? Being a single and no place to sit, I get my order to go. The burrito was on special for $5.99 so I gave it a try. The predominant flavor was... sour cream and rice. The chicken was tender but completely bland, no flavor or seasoning. I realize I'm nitpicking here for my six buck burrito, but the fillings were not distributed evenly either, so as I get a mouthful of rice in one bite, then sour cream in the next, and so on. It's as if the ingredients were in their own tiny burrito sac inside the larger tortilla. Oh well. It's fresh, it's independent, and it's local, so I'll give it another try sometime. read more
