Clean and it's a vibe while you wait

I ordered pick up online. Friendly service, good tacos and salsa. Que mas quieres? The Luchador posters were a plus and cool to look at. They added to the vibe. Family will be back.

Tacos were really good!!! This spot just opened up by my house ! The chicken was very good and flavorful as well! Even were nice to change my tortillas to flour when I forgot to mention !! They give you cucumbers and onions and limes in the side !! I definitely will be going back !

So I was expecting a lot more after the hype it has on Yelp; yes the place is clean, nice lady at the counter; I ordered the 3 taco special w/drink & My husband ordered the Carne Asada torta.. It wasn't anything spectacular, the torta was ok, my tacos were OK too.. I ordered a Pastor, birria & Carne asada taco.. The pastor was good! The birria lacked color & flavor & carne asada was just ok.

Went here for the first time. It was not great at all. The food not cooked all the way. Beans were hard. Will not go back.

We dropped in for takeout lunch on a work day, my son and I, and both enjoyed our experience and meal. The restaurant is small and feels clean and fresh inside. We ordered the Quesabirria and asked for a recommendation for someone who doesn't eat beef, and ended up going with their suggestion, the Del Jefe Torta. Both were delicious! I love that the cheese on the torta was not overly cheesy, it was just right for me. The torta had zero spice until I slathered the hot sauce on it, and I appreciate that ability to customize it. The pineapple and avocado on the torta were perfect. We will be back to try tacos, breakfast, and more. They were so nice. I am glad this place is here!

This two items are the sole reason why I drive 35 minutes all the way from Scottsdale! It's so hard to find good authentic Mexican food in the valley, but this small "hole in the wall" establishment definitely makes my drive and wait so worth it! I consider myself a huge fan of quesabirrias and this ones def take the win, the pastor is the most HOMEMADE taste you could ever find out there; you can totally notice the Mexico City style with the pinapple and the salsas being well balanced and so rich in flavor!! Everything here is not too spicy (for the non Mexican costumers) but everything is so tasty at the same time. Give yourself a "flavor" get this order next time!!! Thank me later

Best nachos!! The beans are so good! These have birria and asada yum!

I love supporting new local small businesses! Quick and tasty. I got the pastor tacos, carne asada and tripa cooked crispy. Yum I will definitely be back when I in town to try other items on the menu.

Taco El Jefe ~ Phoenix We've been waiting for this fabulous eatery to open. It's fresh, clean and has welcoming staff . It's a Family owned local restaurant. Delicious, quality & quantity servings . Made fresh as you wait, true Mexican flavors. I had a delightful beverage called a Horchata, which was creamy, flavored with cinnamon & sweet! I chose a Hawaiian torta, it's filled with layers of grilled ham, breaded steak, pineapple, cheese, avocado, tomato w/ chipotle mayo. My Hubby had the Carne Asada burrito. Huge serving packed full of goodness! The We are definitely planning on coming back.

Every time I come here it gets more packed, which is both annoying and completely understandable because the food is ridiculously good. The tacos are fantastic, the fries are life-changing, and the hongos fries specifically deserve their own national holiday. This place made the Top 100 food spots in America list, and honestly? Deserved. It's the best taco spot in the country in my opinion and makes places like Torchy's feel like they're competing in junior varsity. The vibe is also way above average for a taco joint; lively, clean, and full of people who look like they just took their first bite and immediately started planning their next visit. The taco crew is always friendly too, even while dealing with lines longer than a DMV on a Monday. If you don't know what to order, here's the move: Get one taco or an especial if you're a cheese enthusiast, a medium fry with your topping of choice, and guac with chips. That's the kind of meal that makes you sit in your car afterward thinking about your life choices in a positive way. Enjoy. And maybe stretch beforehand because you're going to want to fight someone over the last hongos fry.

They make my tacos just how I ask every time I come, and I make changes! Most recently was last night after a rough rental car situation (avoid NU check those reviews eek) and the bartender was awesome. Quick service, friendly and took my order perfectly. Strawberry lemonade is my absolute favorite and if you know me I'm a lemonade girl. Tacos are perfect, the meat has virtually no weird fat on them like most tacos do. Both carne and chicken. Delicious. I'm here for five days this trip and I'm going back for sure, may end up at the Tempe location too. I should mention the great atmosphere and getting I got, a "welcome in" from the ladies behind the counter as well as the bartender I wish I got his name. Thank you for making my night :)

Since this establishment offered various types of tacos, we tried a bit of different kinds and overall enjoyed the differences in taste and texture. Specifically, I thought the sonoran taco was very innovative as it involved two kinds of salsa to provide a color juxtaposition, which also offered the carne asada different experiences in flavor. I also enjoyed the costra taco which was made with caramelized cheese over it, offering a pleasant fried flavor on the tortilla itself. The barbacoa taco was very juicy since the beef was very well-made. In contrast, the carne asada taco was a bit dry for some reason, and relied on the avocado salsa for both taste and juiciness. The fish taco didn't have enough fish, and had a lot of batter around the fish along with excessive pickled onion pieces. Since this spot is located in a very nice area, the arts district, I would recommend it to anyone that's around the area. It'd be a nice lunch after visiting the Phoenix Art Museum, which is only a mile away from here!

It was very busy and after ordering, I was standing with others waiting for my food when the other cashier called me up to check on me, thinking I hadn't figured out the process. He was very nice! The place was packed people finished quickly so getting a table wasn't hard. They also had someone cleaning up tables quickly. I got a carne asada caramelito and a carne asada taco. The caramelito continues to be my favorite of the two. Love the roasted salsa on the salsa bar though the hot red one is really good too! I do wish their guac salsa had more tang and salt. I find it bland. These are among my fave tacos but not my absolute so thus the 4 stars.

Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.
