First timer, I happened to be driving by and saw this cozy restaurant with a full parking lot. I love mole negro and am very picky about it - Las 15 Salsas nails it to the wall!!!! Not only do they have mole negro, they have red and green too - which I've never had before. So I got the Enchiladas trio to try all 3 moles. Incredible! Very different but very good. I'd never had Oaxaca food before but it was pretty decent. You just need to have an open mind and a hungry belly and you'll be just fine. I saw this spot driving down Hatcher and love a restaurant with many different salsas but come to find out the name is deceptive. They only call it 15 salsas because they are near 15th? I went with a friend on a Friday evening around 630 and there was no one there. That maybe should have been a sign? The dining area is small but cute and looks like there is a nice outdoor area as well. The waiter came over to us a few minutes after seating us but not with chips and salsa. That is when I asked about the 15 salsas or lack of 15 salsas. We had to ask for chips and then he brought us two hot sauces that looked house made but no real salsa. Chips were average and looked like they came from the bottom of the bag. I ordered a skinny margarita and it was also average. I asked for not a lot of ice but he must have misunderstood me and gave me a ton of ice. My friend got a house marg and I tasted it to confirm the mix was terrible. Now I am mostly a vegetarian so when I see an interesting veggie item on the menu I must try it. I got the squash blossom empanadas. The corn tortilla was clearly house made and it tasted pretty good until I got to the squash blossom. It was so gross I couldn't even eat anymore. It ruined it. Also before I couldn't eat anymore I ordered the pico de gallo because it came with nothing except a sad little lettuce garnish. The pico was tasteless. Went with friends for dinner last night. We started with the mole pollo tlyuda. It was a perfect way to start the meal and easy to share for the 6 of us. I then ordered the Amarillo pollo empeñada. It was huge compared to any other empeñada I've had. It was packed with flavor and I cleaned my plate. It was great. Overall a great experience even with a larger group. They sat us quickly and were great with service. This little neighborhood gem has been a favorite of ours and will continue as long as they keep putting out these quality mezcal drinks and food. It's a good size restaurant that can probably sit indoors about 30 people and their outdoor patio is pretty spacious too. The service was fantastic from the minute we walked in. Now I do have to say I did not want to take a whole star away for not having two items in their menu because the food was really tasty and true to the region of Oaxaca. The restaurant itself is good sized with a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance is nothing special, but not off-putting. Neighborhood and family run vibe. The menu is fairly large. I was interested in trying the more regional items so I passed on the typical enchiladas, tacos, burritos, etc.. I went for guacamole & tlayuda Chips to start. Quite tasty with a good bit of spice. The chips are interesting - not the typical chips you would get in a Mexican restaurant. For an entree, I went for a tlayuda combinada. It is a large tlayuda chip covered with refried beans, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and a mix of meats (pork, chorizo, and beef). It was quite good! Different than other Mexican dishes I have tried. If I have any downgrades, it would be the service. It was quite slow. We were not in a hurry so it was not that big of a deal. That said, it might not be ideal for you. Worth a look. Either way--not very tasty. The memelas were good and the amarillo was, actually, the best we have tasted in the U.S. The price was exorbitant--almost $100 and we only drank water. Super legit oaxacan food in Phoenix. It has cute outdoor patio or indoor seating. I would eat here everyday. We got the fiesta 3 mole plates which has red, black and estofado (stew) moles. This plate is good for two people. And also the tamal qaxaqueno was delicious. It is wrapped in banana leaf, with chicken inside and soft maza. This is a hidden gem! It's so cute outside when you pull up.. Then you walk inside and it feels clean (although, it's a little dark inside), good ambiance, no loud, obnoxious music. I ordered caldo de pollo to go. The side of white rice was very good. The corn tortillas... so good! If I closed my eyes I could've been back in Mexicali. If you've never had Mexican corn tortillas (not found in any major American chain- death to Mission tortillas), order them here. Then order extra to take home and eat them warm with queso fresco as a nice snack. Next up: the caldo (chicken broth soup with chicken, carrots, potato, and calabaza- something close to zucchini). The caldo was not the best I've had, but it was still good. I was surprised that they used Idaho potatoes instead of yellow potato. Two good pieces of chicken in there. The broth was less rich than I expected and it was red. I was expecting a clear broth, colored a little yellow by seasonings and the carrots. When garnished with PLENTY of lime, cilantro, onion, and maybe more salt and added hot sauce or jalapeños, this soup was pretty good. More basic than I was hoping for. Place is small so expect to wait for a table unless your willing to sit out on the patio which if the weather is nice would be okay. We also had the house margarita which was very good. Based on Yelp reviews and a desire to try Oaxacan cuisine, we selected this restaurant on a recent visit. From the outside the place looks small, but there are plenty of tables when you can use the covered patio. We order the enchilada trio, the tiayuda combinada, the tamales, the carne asada empanada, and the carne asada quesadilla. All of them were tasty with the mole sauce makes it unique.
