First time here. Lovely decor. Ordered two menudos, a cheese quesadilla and a plate with a chile relleno and a tamal. The menudos were a little flavorless. Definitely had to hit the salsa bar to add some flavor. But even then it had a distinct smell, almost fishy. I don't think that's right. Anyways, it was good. Good amount of tripe. The tamal was a little dry, again had to add salsa. The rice that cane with it was kinda dry and tasted a lot like garlic. Cheese quesadill was simple. 3 blend cheese. Love love this place every time I eat here. The cashiers are nice and helpful, and the food is always great. I like how the staff wears a different color t-shirt every day. We had food delivered tonight. Food was delivered fast ($2,99 delivery fee, plus a min. of 15% tip required). Ordered a carne asada burrito, chicken tacos, beans and rice. Little did I know that you have to PAY extra for salsa. I didn't realize this until the food was already delivered. Salsa at the restaurant if free, and you have to pay $2.75 for each type with delivery. I spent almost $40 - you would think they'd throw in the salsa. we ate dry food. read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review for them. This place is top 3 in south OC. Portions are great, service is excellent, salsa bar really has no competition. You can add those hot red pepper pods to your salsa and scale it hotter than necessary. The carnitas, Carne asada, and other things are fresh, fast, and the food is tremendous. They play pono music and television. It's a great relaxing vibe and you always feel like you want to go back when you leave and tell whoever is with you.... this place is good, we have to come back here. Super frustrated with this place! Ordered a bunch of food over Yelp app and they stuffed our bag so tight that when I went t to get my chile verde out it spilled everywhere! I also burned my leg in the process, the chile verde should have been in one bag by itself because it had lots of sauce and it spilled everywhere. We also ordered a milanesa meal, the menu said it come with fries and guacamole. Well no fries in sight! It came with rice and beans, when I called to speak to a manager, the girl that answered me told me her manager wasn't there. How the heck do they run a business with No MANAGER? I asked her to let me speak with someone in charge and she said there was nobody to help me, she said I can tell her and she could help me, I proceeded to tell her and then she proceeded to tell me to call the manager. she gave me his number and he of course didn't answer. So I spent $48 for food and no help in sight! One of the meals is on the floor and on my leg and the other is wrong. I really hope the manager contacts me to fix this issue. read more

This place is ridiculously good. They have the best chilaquiles verde around. And i have tried them everywhere. They also have giant yummy pancakes for kids that are so cheap. This is my favorite Mex restaurant in the area, and I've lived in the area for 35 years. You'll see a lot of Latinos here, and they're there for the same reason that I (a gringo) go there: Really tasty Mexican food with an open salsa/condiment bar where you help yourself. Service is with a smile, everybody who works there is friendly, and their standard menu is authentic Mexican cuisine with daily specialties. Bring an appetite. read more

Describing this place in one word: atrocious. I came in and asked for a simple bacon, cheese, egg, and potato burrito. Not only did they butcher my burrito, it wasn't remotely good. The eggs were unseasoned, the bacon was undercooked, and the potatoes were microwaved. They served my friend that I payed for before I. This was by far one of the worst Mexican restaurants I've been to in the U.S. Southwest and I've been to a good many. If this place isn't shut down by the end of the year than ISIS is winning. I decided to give this place a try after my post lasik check-up. This place is like a mile away from my doctors office. I walked in & found the place to be really clean, spotless to be correct. When you first walk in you see pictures of some of their menu items over on the right wall. & next to the cashier counter you see the "agua fresca" stations. Towards the center of restaurant they have a salsa station. They have maybe 4-5 tv's inside the restaurant. They had the World Cup games on when I came in. After making my observations of the restaurant I went ahead & ordered my food. The cashier was nice & took my order. I ordered the chorizo & eggs with rice & beans & ordered an horchata to drink. The horchata was delicious, one of the best I've ever had. While I was waiting for my food the cashier brought me some chips. I went to salsa bar & filled maybe 4-5 salsa cups with different salsa. All salsas were delicious, tasted good & fresh. You can probably my just come here for the horchata & salsa bar. When I got my food it looked delicious. As I started eating it, I found it to be alright. The rice & beans were ok but chorizo & eggs were bland. It tasted like scrambled eggs with chunks of meat with no flavor. I had to pour salsa on them to give them some flavor. It was my first time here & ordered breakfast food, next time I'll order lunch/dinner & see if their other food is also bland. So, full disclosure; ordered on Grubhub for my coworkers. Nothing really to speak to, other than that of the Green Salsa. A very nice kick to it. Not spicy per se, but a nice depth of flavor, for sure. I hate to be critical, but do need to say that the multiple trays of crispy tacos, were bland. The expectation was that the crispy taco shell would have been achieved by deep frying a corn tortilla, not the Taco Bell variety. The meat (both chicken and steak) was quality, but lacking any flavor. The addition of sour cream to the lettuce and cheese, was curious. The mini burritos (meat of your choice and beans) was fine, but the red salsa, though visually attractive, tasted more like ketchup, than that of salsa. With oh so many choices in the OC, I can't say that I would be returning for a second try. read more

Went there based on Yelp reciews... First of all order your tacos before being seated.. No offer of a menu... Cashier rude no help... Food comes... Meat like leather no flavor nothing.. This review is for my catering experience. We were looking for food for about 30 people, but also didn't want to spend an obscene amount of money. We did our research and found Tacos Ensenada. When I called, I was a little confused because the woman gave me the cell phone number of her manager and he would be able to quote a price for me. So it seems that there was no set catering menu set up, or set prices. This was a plus for us, because it gave us an opportunity to negotiate. The manager returned our call the same day. He was very hospitable and assured us that we would get everything we needed. We only had to call 2 days in advance for the order. The day of the party, we picked it up and everything was perfect! We got chicken, carne asada, corn/flour tortillas, chips, rice, & beans. All of the condiments were included; onions, cilantro, 3 different (huge containers) salsas, limes and pickled veggies. They even lent us containers to keep the food hot, which they just asked us to return the sometime that week. For about $7 p/head, this was a great deal, and we had plenty of food to spare. The first time I went here, I'd just gotten done with a six hour drive, which isn't that much, but it's enough to make me want nothing in life except for a vegetarian California burrito. Tacos Ensenada was the only place still open that I could find, and they put French fries in my burrito even though it wasn't on the menu. I decided I loved the place. The second time I came in there, they screwed up my order, and it made me discouraged. The third time, they got my order right, but they put a ton of guacamole on my burrito. I don't like guacamole, but I don't dislike it either. To me, guacamole is just there. However, anything more than a quarter of a pound of guacamole on a single burrito is just too much for me. In the end, I don't know what to think of Tacos Ensenada. Easily amused fans of Mexican food will probably love it, but if you're reading this you're probably a bit of a food snob, so maybe you'll like it and maybe you won't. I may have found my cheap Mexican place! I'm going to have to go back to try more things, but I was pretty happy with my dinner tonight. I have a confession- I make my first impressions based on cheese enchiladas and beans. I figure if they can do basic well, the other stuff will follow. Their enchilada sauce is kid-level mild (it kind of reminds me of good old El Conejo from when I was a kid), with no hint of bitter, which always turns me off in an enchilada sauce. The tortillas were cooked all the way through, unlike some places. I *hate* when you get an enchilada and the tortilla is still all hard. Also, they had plenty of cheese (yay- no skimping!). The carnitas was on the dry side, but I was kind of expecting that as I dropped by about 15 minutes before closing. It was definitely a generous portion of meat in the taco, though. I can't wait to try out more items from their fairly extensive menu! I do wish they were a little cheaper ($10 for a small soda, cheese enchilada and a taco with beans and rice is a little much), but their quality and customer service warrant the price tag. read more

Acid indigestion galore a couple of hours later, what else is there to say? If you are going to pay money to suffer later does not strike me as the right investment. Taco tuesday was average, not exceptional as some die hard paint them. Yes, I know everyone has their own taste and likings, but check this out: if after a couple of hours you feel like lava is rising up in your belly something is not right. We had tacos of carnitas, carne asada, chicken. Also had Tamales (no experts here, a lot of masa probably packed with lard for it was almost hard, and the filling mediocre. In other words it SUCKED!), rice and beans, sodas (flat flat flat) guacamole and access to all their salsas were the pico de gallo probably was the best inclusion. No culinary mecca here and the real price came later, uninvited, unwanted, unexpected acid indigestion. Good food never does that and I am not particularly sensitive, but I am getting sick and tired of under payed cooks feeding me crapiola that taste okey at the time but with disastrous results later on! Yes, we were hungry, we ate there for the first time, we tipped nicely and now that I am doing the exorcist with my insides I share this with those who have a certain desire to eat good food, the kind that feels good and you can go to bed and don't wake up screaming: Get out of my Belly!
