What a great local, casual Mexican spot! After living in San Diego for several years, my standards for Mexican food are quite high, so it's been difficult to find a place in Orange County that compares until I found Cuca's. My husband and I have visited a few times now, and the food has been consistently excellent. We've tried a variety of items, including their tacos, Carne Asada burritos, and taquitos; everything has been fresh and high-quality. The shrimp taco salad is my new favorite- it's delicious and incredibly fresh. Between the great guacamole, fresh salsas, and consistently friendly service, this place always delivers. Cuca's falls squarely in the middle of the pack. It's not bad by any means, but it doesn't quite stand out either. I ordered the two-item combo with rice and beans and went with the shredded beef hard shell tacos. The tacos actually had good flavor, and they were generous with both the meat and cheese. The rice and beans came in solid portions and tasted good as well, so that part of the meal was satisfying. My wife ordered the chile verde burrito chimichanga style, and that's where the experience dropped off a bit. The pork had very little flavor and, considering it's supposed to be simmered in chile verde sauce, it was surprisingly dry. Service was good. We went on a Friday night and the place was fairly busy with a mix of dine-in and takeout orders, but everything moved along smoothly. They also have a solid salsa selection, and the green jalapeño sauce in particular stood out. Pico de gallo to costly to make for the salsa bar and 4 dollars to make a burrito wet with simple enchilada sauce!!! We've been coming here for years and years and it's definitely gone downhill! Not even sour cream/guacamole comes with any plates now. Prices went up and some things went out! Absolutely the worst customer service ever. We ordered and paid for extra jalapeños,cilantro and hot sauces. When we got home nothing that we ordered extra was in our bag. This is place deserves 5+ stars. The staff are very pleasant and accommodating. Isela is very helpful in explaining the different dishes. All the dishes are very authentic and freshly made even their chips. I highly recommend the Nachos Deluxe with whatever protein including shrimp that you want in it. This was my first time but two out of five of us had been here before so they recommended a few things before we all ordered. The restaurant is located in a shopping center in Foothill Ranch and it's quite large with booths on one side and tables on the other. It's clean and welcoming; you order and pay at the counter and they give you a number then bring the food to your table. The girl at the cash register was quick and helpful and the overall service was quite fast, considering there was about 6 people in front of us. My husband ordered the Carnitas burrito (wet), I ordered triple combo along with my friend who ordered the same. Mine came with a tamale, chile relleno, and chicken taquitos and his had a beef taco instead of the tamale. One of our friends ordered the fajitas, and another order the crispy potato tacos. I tried to get photos of everyone's plates but managed to get only a few. The food was served very hot, the salsa bar was fresh and filled with four different salsas including pico de gallo--their green guacamole salsa was delicious as was their house red salsa. We got chips and a small thing of guacamole for the table that was complementary. But overall, the winner for me was their chile relleno! The sauce that came with it was tomato based but nothing like an enchilada sauce, it was fresh and light and it had a nice egg batter but the impressive texture was the chili was tender and the cheese inside was silky and melted and just perfect! I can't tell you how many places I've tried where the peppers were too tough to cut with a fork and the cheese inside was a solid clump--but this place made them perfectly and they were excellent! I'll go back just to get the chile relleno's! My husband said the burrito was OK but the carnitas are not the best we've had, but he was satisfied. Our friend who had the fajitas said they were good! Cuca's Mexican Food never lets my husband and I down; whether it's on the American made "Taco Tuesday", if I'm just looking for a fresh salad or some good ole tamales...they are always a winner! Cuca's is in the center with Taco Bell and Del Taco isn't far but what I love about Cuca's is they don't nickel and dime you because you ask for onions which should already be included on Mexican food unless you don't want it. So if you are in the area; don't waste your money on the fast food chains; hit up Cuca's where you'll enjoy real native Mexican cuisine! The restaurant is very dirty, and I couldn't get over that. Tables had food all over them, salsa bar looked a mess, and I noticed the salt and pepper shakers had rust on them (please buy new ones). There was also a distinct odor that smelled like a sewer. I hadn't been here in years and now I remember why. The food is also average at best. I hate giving bad reviews, but I have to be honest. I was craving some Mexican food and decided to try Cuca's. I regret it. I live in a place with very diverse , rich, flavorful Hispanic and Latin American food. Cuca's is very, very Americanized leaving much to be desired flavor wise. Now, maybe it was just the chicken quesadilla I ordered, and for comparison, Taco Bell quesadillas have more flavor. Personally, I would not risk ordering something else to see if it is more flavorful. Also, random side note, I am not sure the restroom is ADA compliant. You open the door and the urinal is less than 2 feet from the door. Not sure a wheelchair could easily get in. read more

I haven't been here in a while but I always think about their carne asada fries haha. They have the best ones I've tried. My favorite part is that they actually use real cheese and not nacho cheese. Fries are sooo good and the carbs asada is good compared to most places in OC. Their chips are served warm and the guacamole is delicious!! The salsa bar is my favorite. We were treated to dinner on Friday night. The chips were thick and crunchy. The pico de gallo tasted fresh and was chunky. The chicken tacos were stuffed, crunchy and a good amount of chicken. You get a number, you get your seat and your food is brought out to you. No other service is provided. One thing I feel is exceptionally disappointing, is that they have a gratuity line as you pay. But they don't offer any service.. after I sat outside, I had to get up, walk to the front ask for some flatware, and get my own napkins. I had already left a gratuity. Had I known that I would have to go back in and get my own things to be able to eat my meal, I would have not left a gratuity. Or I would have asked to please bring flatware and napkins with my food and then I would feel good leaving a gratuity.. the management needs to educate their employees that they should not expect to receive gratuities when they're not providing service and just doing their job. The carnitas was tender but sort of bland and a little watery, but it was good.. doesn't seem to be a lot of flavor, but it was good. I was surprised by the chicken taquitos. They are deep fried, but it seems like they are hand rolled, and NOT somethingsome thing out of freezer. I was pleasantly surprised. Again, not a whole Lotta flavor, but for the price very satisfying . Finally some decent Mexican food near me! I was craving taquitos and if you know north OC, you'll know that there aren't a lot of good Mexican food spots here. I liked that there is a salsa bar that is well kept and everything is basically self served. I never see that it's packed here so I never have to wait long for my food which is great. The horchata can be better but it's not a huge deal. The place is clean and tidy with no sticky floors. Employees are nice and polite. Delicious Mexican restaurant in Foothill Ranch Towne Centre. This is a family owned & operated establishment since 89, with homemade authentic recipes that you can taste! There are a handful of locations, but this is the only Orange County one. It's a small spot, but there's a good amount of seating, and an outdoor patio. I love their hard shell taco combo plate served with rice and beans. And the handmade chips are a must too! Goes perfectly with the fresh Pico de Gallo salsa. They serve horchata and Jamaica, along with the regular soft drinks, and some bottled. You can order online through the site, and catering is available for each location city. I let my son have my Mamón since it still was a bit too greasy for my liking. Stopped a couple doors down to a place we used to eat at every week. This is when they had the awesome punch cards to earn a free burrito. Anyways, we still visit every so often. This time, when I asked for chips, they said they charged. I told the lady " that is new, they never did before". It's not too much, but still bothersome since I've grown accustomed to them just giving you chips when you order your food. Came in today to try their tacos for taco Tuesday. I have to say their fish tacos are so flavorful and I really appreciated that the fish wasn't fried or breaded. It was light, yet filling at the same time. They have an unlimited salsa station where you can find to-go boxes as well. The salsas are prepackaged in small plastic containers. Very clean and well kept station. The servers and staff were all friendly and helpful. The food we ordered was so good, the ambiance was nice, prices were reasonable, and the seats and dining areas were comfortable and clean.
