WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! DO NOT EAT HERE!!! They're incredibly rude here!!! Horrible service! The first time i went, they compleetly messed up my order. When I brought it back the guy sighed at me and rolled his eyes and tried to charge me AGAIN! A taco and a burrito, not difficult, like others have said the food is substandard at best. There was barely any meat in the Taco and the burrito looked like a child's size compared to they typical ones from Pericos or Vallarta. I love carnitas but theres were bland and had a smokey almost burnt taste. It's also expensive $3.35 for a taco compared to 2.25 most other places and $7.25 for a small burrito compared to $6.41 for a super burrito at Vallarta.(all prices after tax) Anyway, I went back again because it was next to the laundry mat and I though I might try one more time. I have a service dog. She's only 7lbs and she has a vest and tags. I was doing laundry so I threw her vest in. He saw my dog last time I was there. Anyway, as I walked in the door, he said "No dogs, put her outside". I said she's a service dog. He asked where her vest is. I said I'm washing it next door, I can bring it over once the wash stops. I offered to go to the car to get her tags. He said "if she was a service dog she wouldn't be scared". I said "she's a chihuahua and it's 60degrees out, she's not scared she's cold!". Then he rolled his eyes and turned his head to the next customer and ignored me like a child. Due to my illness (for which I need a service dog), I started to feel sick on my to get food. I literally had to pull over and call my mom to bring me something. My laundry had to be washed again because it sat, wet in the washer. Just because someone is young and doesn't "look sick", doesn't mean their not. oh and FYI! In Santa Cruz country its ILLEGAL to ask if the animal is a service animal. I HATE THIS PLACE. The food here is pretty solid but will not wow you, the salsa however will blow your mind with amazingness. It's so good I buy a $6 container of it each time I'm headed home. Of all the meats I like the al pastor the best. The chicken is decent but a little watery. The carne asada is solid too. Truth be told I buy food here to eat the salsa and will regularly go through more than half a bottle each burrito because it's the best salsa in the world IMHO. read more

Tacos Moreno is a favorite of mine. I was really happy that they opened one close to the Spa Fitness. After a good workout, I can easily grab dinner for my husband and I. Although the original Tacos Moreno in Water Street is also a must go to. I normally get the supreme burrito with carnitas and the veggie supreme burrito. I like the salsa that they have a lot. I'm probably not the best person to review this place, since I've been going here since I was a child, and all I ever really order is the vegetarian corn quesadilla. First of all, this isn't your average quesadilla. It's tasty melty cheese, beans, cabbage, and the best salsa you can find at a restaurant. I feel that half the reason to go to Moreno's is the experience of squeezing that fantastic hot sauce all over your food before each bite. My husband and I were visiting Capitola yesterday and decided we wanted to eat at this restaurant because it was Mexican oriented and we love tacos. We wanted to have the perfect seating and view since it was our first time there. There was no line upon arriving to the restaurant, so the host took us in to be seated right away. We told the host we would like to be seated in a designated table since it was available and had shade, but he said we could not sit there because it was a busy day and that was a table for four people. We insisted on being seated at that table since there was nobody waiting to be seated and right behind us was another table " of 4 spots " but only two people sitting in it . So how could we couldn't get the table we liked ? He did not want to give us the table so we decided to leave the place. Anytime we go to a restaurant specially when we are celebrating a special event we would like to get the attention and service that we as customers deserve especially when there are tables available that are not reserved and not being waited upon. I am so happy we actually did end up leaving because we came across another restaurant called Capitola bar & Grill that had live music and had the best attention from their employees not to mention the best view . The food is good here don't get me wrong, but the burritos DON'T come with rice for whatever reason. I'm Mexican and it's standard to put rice in a damn burrito, so I bought 2 supreme burritos here expecting them to have rice. They were 8 dollars each too, so not the cheapest. When I come home and start to eat mine halfway through I figure out that there's no rice in it. (I kept eating as I thought I would eventually encounter the rice). It was very dissapointing. I call and ask about it and they say that having no rice in their burrito "is what separates them from the rest." As if that is something to be proud of and not a way to pinch pennies. Anyways, I just wish that there was a sign somewhere that said that rice is not standard because I am sure this is something that everyone assumes about a burrito. It's never fun to walk into a scowling face when you are going to order food...I take my whole experience into consideration when eating out. I hoped so too!! Especially since I am vegetarian. Fast forward to the unveiling of said burrito in question- in my car, outside restaurant ( I was in fact doing laundry also). Ok- it was very cold. Boo I had been swimming for an hour, was quite ravenous & chose not to face the clearly unhappy Cashier for an exchange..... Flavorwise, I personally would rate my cold food a 6 out of 10- limited Cilantro, no salsa- or maybe flavorless, tortilla quite good! I like the quesadillas here. Prices are a little on the high side. But, the food is pretty good. My wife and I like their salsa. We can usually empty a squeeze bottle between the both of us in one seating. The only thing I really don't like is that it is Cash Only. I hardly carry cash on me these days. My mom and I went to Tacos Morenos after I kept noticing a line out the door and a few people had mentioned it was a good Mexican restaurant.......we were so HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED! The guacamole was packaged bag snot guacamole, the horchata was powdered and nasty, my moms nachos were barely covered in cheese and not even melted, my super burrito didn't taste like anything and I kept adding salt and salsa. First impression: It smells like a barn in here. But Ive heard good things about this place lets just ignore it... The food: I chose a breakfast burrito but they were running pretty low on potatoes so it was really just a bean and cheese, it's ok because I came in at 12:00... The food was spot on though, really reminded me of home. The salsa was pretty sweet to be honest and needs some more heat (but I understand that we're dealing with Santa Cruz here and not Los Angeles lol:p) Final thoughts: Seriously smells like a barn, maybe its just today but it's a nice place. First time here, I ordered a carne asada burrito. For $6.25 I was expecting a FAT burrito. What I got was a little beans and meat with lots of cabbage. I wasn't impressed and still hungry. The food quality is consistently good and you usually don't have to wait long to get served. I forget that it's cash only and then get mad at myself for having to use their ATM and incur those fees. My husband was recommended to this restaurant by co-workers, they said, "It is a must stop after a Hike" we stopped by today. The service was EXCELLENT, everything was clean...we were a party of 5, sat outside and enjoyed our drinks, chips and salsa came FAST!! Their chips and salsa were fresh, not stale like other local restaurants. Our teenage boys enjoyed their fresh agua frescas after a 7 mile hike. The food was delicious!! This is not Mexican food. The tortillas are generic and bland, the meat is drowning in horrible sauce, the salsa has no flavor, and the burritos have no Traditional ingredients. The worst part about the place is that the staff cannot smile or show any emotion what so ever. It's like ordering at the DMV. Hi I have been a, fan of Morenos for years. Recently I tried the location on 4ist ave. Francisco who works there was cynical, arrogant, and rude. Referring that they are better then, the former Erics Deli who was there before. He said we were mean when we asked if he could top off our Horchata. Service is poor the we ordered buritos ,Carnitas is dry and bony, the Carne asada was dry and fatty, very little flavor with just a small amount of meat. I hope that the Morenos on water st, has not declined, as much. I have always liked the Cabbage in the burrito. I will think twice and probably drive out of my way to avoid this place next time read more

I would imagine it's all of the fresh ingredients, authentic recipes and somebody managing that place who really cares.
