Stopping into a new-to-you taco place can be challenging. At legit taco stands, one should not expect all the fillings to be fabulous. It's always a process of discover to find out what each place does well and where its lacking. Sabado y Domingo seem to be the days to come, because then you can get mole tamales. No tamales on Lunes. Tried the carnitas. Tried the al pastor. Skip the carnitas. These were more like diced cubes of roast pork. True carnitas are a thing of beauty, cooked crisp in its own fat. None of those lovely textural elements were present. The pastor was pretty good for upstate New York. It was well seasoned, and included a few small pieces of pineapple. Well played Uriel. Well played. On the strength of the al pastor, I might say this is 3.5 and round up to 4. However, even for a ramshackle taco stand, Uriel was on the dirtier side. I don't mind a bit of clutter, uncleared plates, or some countertops that are pulling away from the wall. But all the flies were a bit much. That said, it was one of the hottest days of the year. After an incredibly tiring 10.5 mile hike on Mt. Beacon we needed nutritious, delicious food! Yelped it and found our way to Tacos Uriel. It's a tiny joint in a Latin American neighborhood in Newburgh. They turned the driveway into seating space and have an open kitchen inside. I tink it's a converted house. Really cool small business. Anyway, we were delirious and the food came out incredibly fresh, everything was made to order. We waited what seemed like an eternity. Drooling, guessing what could be taking so long, reacting to every sizzle in the kitchen. My stomach churned, by feet and ankles ached. I just wanted TACOS! For all the anticipation, the food delivered! Vegetarian enchiladas in a very spicy green sauce - AMAZING A carne asada burrito even bigger than the super burritos in San Francisco. Now, that is GINORMOUS. All for the dirt cheap price of $6.50. WOW. 5 tacos - 3 carne asada, spicy pork, and Mexican chorizo. You'd think the latter two are the same, but they are not. Go for the Mexican chorizo. Giant plate of rice and beans and all the hot green sauce we wanted. Everything was so good. With our exhaustion and hunger it was probably amplified x 2. If you're hiking in the area, drive the extra couple of miles to support a small neighborhood business where the food is bomb. Stopped here while at a basketball tournament a few blocks away. Ordered tacos, chicken chorizo, beef, and pork. All were very flavorful and overstuffed with meat. We are on a taco hunt for the best taco place in Newburgh, and we tried Tacos Uriel our after reading the reviews. We tried chicken tacos and al pastor tacos, along with rice and beans Unfortunately this fell very far from our expectations. Although the tacos are large and have generous portions, the chicken tacos were basically boiled chicken in soft tacos. No seasoning or anything, and we spent a majority of the time picking out small bones and gristle. The al pastor was decent, better than a couple other places in the area but not the best we've ever had. They do include cilantro and onions on the side, but no sauces or anything else to spice it up. Rice and beans were also bland. The place itself seems like the traditional taco shack vibe. Menu on a white board, high top seating. Not spotless but not disgustingly dirty. Also, for a small taco shack everything seemed a bit expensive. In this area we really don't expect to pay more than $3 for a taco, and the al pastor tacos were over that. The entire thing came to about $20 which isn't a lot but is still higher than better taco places we have been to. All in all, we will not be going back. read more

Tried them at Taco Fest 2017 and they were amazing. I had to get their card and stop by their restaurant. Didn't meet my expectation. Generous portions but the food was not how I remembered it. Wow! What a nice surprise. These tacos are fantastic. Absolutely stuffed with meat and they give you a nice big pile of onions and greens to add at your own discretion. I had the carnitas, the oreja, the cuero and the Buche. The oreja was probably the best I've had. The cuero is not usually found in the city and was also amazing. The Vue he and carnitas were excellent. Will definitely be back here the next time I'm in Newburgh. This is just as good if not better and a much better deal than the Taquerias in the bushwick and the city read more

I want to love it here, I really do. Pros: it's a lot of bang for your buck. I ordered tacos expecting them to be really small but they were actually huge and stuffed with meat. The salsa verde was also pretty good. Cons: there is just something lacking. To me, the carnitas seemed dry and lacked flavor. I needed tons of lime and salsa to curb the dryness of the meat. I would have preferred less meat but a better flavor and not so dry. I also did not like my taco de papa at all. It wasn't fried and it was topped with some sort of pork which I thought was unnecessary. The staff is nice and the prices are good but I think I may wait until a weekend to try it again. It wasn't busy at all and it was noon so I wonder if everything would be fresher and tastier when there's a larger crowd and a turnover of customers. Worth a shot but no guarantees... read more

I am basing this review solely on the customer service as I was not able to try their food, this was inexcusably horrible is my reason for writing this. I placed an order on Door Dash for 2 Cemitas and received 1 platter with rice, beans and meat. The dasher picked up the food he delivered and returned to the restaurant with it. I received a call from the owners son because his mom does not speak English. I do speak some Spanish and my partner is fluent so that would not have been an issue if they had asked. I was treated extremely rude by the owners son and they would not take responsibility for their mistake, I was told that my credit card was not charged the amount for what I ordered. I placed an order through an app and never gave them a card and my account was charged the proper amount for the food, a delivery charge and a tip for delivery and not the $13 and change they said. If that was actually the case why was I not called and in place you just made some random platter of food that was the cost of what I ordered? This was not my fault in any way, they probably just confused the order with someone else's order and it was an easy fix but I was treated like it was my fault. As for the food, I can not comment on the quality of it as I was unable to try it. For all I know they could have the best Mexican in Newburgh but I will never know because I will not order form them again due to the horrible and rude customer service I received and I will advise everyone I know to eat somewhere else as there are no shortage of good Mexican restaurants in Newburgh where they are not run by rude people. read more

Delicious! Ordered delivery and got waayyy too much food. But now we have some awesome leftovers! We got huarache with chicken, that was delicious! Also had the Carne de Pollo plate, also delicious! The tacos here are the best in the area, and they come out super fast. This is how true Mexican tacos should taste. Grilled meat, finely chopped onion and cilantro with all the lime and fresh radish you could want. If I could rate this place any higher, I would. Such a nice family that runs the place, too. I had heard so much about the food being so awesome that I was excited to try it with some coworkers. Placed an order through DoorDash and was extremely disappointed. I had such high expectations since I had heard such great things but they were quickly dashed. 4 out of 7 items were missing. We read about Tacos Uriel in the New York Times travel section, and stopped in for lunch. Run by a family from Puebla, the restaurant staff is very friendly and helpful. I've been coming here for years and have added this restaurant with a regular order of a Huarache to my Sunday routine. I've always been either been charged the wrong amount or I have been giving the wrong order. Today was the last straw! I ordered my usual Huarache w/ bistec, no cream, no onions, no chile and everything down to the customer service was horrible. I'll give it to them their food is delicious depending on who's in the kitchen but their customer service is causing me not to ever steep foot in this location. I repeated my ordered multiple times to the woman for a to go order and when I sat down to enjoy my Sunday dinner I receive something completely out of the ordinary. The cheese used was not the usual. The meat came mixed with onions. I did not get my lettuce. I call to tell them what i received was not what i ordered and i was basically called a liar. We were told that they with make me a new one and they were sorry about the mistake. I send my husband to pick up my new order with my old order in hand and I got a phone call that turned my stomach. They told my husband that they would not make a new one because of a "bite" and they proceeded to just scrape off all the ingredients on top and just add new ingredient on top of the old Huarache. I'll be taking my business somewhere else for my Sunday dinner. read more
