This place is a real gem. The pottery is beautiful and diverse. They have pottery made by local…read moreartists as well as artists from different states. I noticed that not all of the pottery had artist information available, so I asked the person working at the cash register. He immediately knew the artist after looking at the piece. The prices were really great too. Some people might find the pottery expensive, but the amount of work and dedication it takes to make these things is substantial. I also really love this place because they are connected to a pottery studio (Frederick Clay Studio) that offers classes and internships.

They also have other little gifts, such as colorful candles, local handmade soap, and light switch plaques. Cute little place to check out when you're roaming around the downtown Frederick area.

I was looking at it, and someone walked by and said, "You can get that free map in the arts center ", and then shared they were an employee there. So off we went to the arts center (just 5 steps from the garage). Did we ever make it to our original destination, no, but we certainly had a fun time exploring the arts center and would definitely go back again. There is so much to do and see - all 3 levels (I excluded the basement as we never made it down there (pressed for time). When in the area, please make it a point to visit this spot. I was so happy to learn the gallery did have the artist's work available, and the owner Eileen was so gracious to email me photos. I couldn't wait to visit. A visit I anticipated would only be a couple of hours, turned into about six! My breath was taken away by the sight of all the ORIGINAL Black art... wall-to-wall, framed and unframed, on the shelves, in sleeves, on canvas, on paper, different mediums... paintings, sculptures, quilts... by artists national and international. I've never experienced anything like it! And as if the art isn't enough, Eileen, is so engaging and a pleasure to get to know. Her knowledge of the Black art industry is incredible.
