Do you know what I like about the California DMV? Nothing. Just standing in lines for hours just to fill out the wrong form and go to the other 'wrong form' line. Then you stand and sit for hours - just praying for death. Enter UMI's 'I-do-most-things-the-DMV-does-but-way-better' Smog. OK - I added the middle - but it's all true. I had to get tags & title for a car I bought out of state. Mo did an AWESOME job - was managing 3 customers all at once. I really appreciated the customer service. yea..probably a good place to go IN PERSON wouldn't recommend calling them over the phone because they talk over you and barely let you get a word out. Told them I needed a Title transfer because my mom passed away last month and every place has been giving me problems about her not being able to sign it over since she's passed. I never really write any reviews but it was a dehumanizing experience to have someone talk to you like they couldn't care less about what you have going on and just want your money. I could barely get my hello in without being interrupted. I came on my lunch break to Tag Clinicc and I was in and out. Mohammed helped me with excellent customer service.

I came from Out-of-State and friend recommended I make an appointment. I came to my appointment with my smog check already performed. They were super nice, and professional and were able to accommodate my early arrival to the appointment. All was quick and easy. Then came the bill which included a $180 in fees on top of the DMV fees, a total of almost twice the bill I would have at the DMV alone. THEN, I was told I needed to return the next day for my plates. They promised to call or I should call them if I had not heard from them by 4pm. The next day there was no call by 4pm and they did not answer when I called. I had the privilege of returning to them during rush hour traffic, doubling my commute, as it was the only day I could return. When I arrived they were slammed. They said they would be right with me as something had gone wrong with my DMV plate submission and I owed more money before I could have my plates. They did not get back to me for another half hour but told me the DMV had made an error. They fixed it in less then a couple of minutes before giving me my plates. I again got the privilege of sitting in rush hour traffic for an extended amount of time. My partner was in the same situation when she was returning from out of state. She went to the DMV with a smog check: the same as how I arrived at Tags Clinic. She spent FAR LESS time obtaining her items in one trip to the DMV after I recommended she skip Tags Clinic. Though Tags Clinic was professional, I felt incredibly ripped off and that my time was wasted. The DMV stresses me out. SO I was a bit behind on car related tasks and decided to come here instead of trying to figure it all out for myself online or at the actual DMV. This was SO much easier. I didn't even have to get out of my car. There was a short wait, they were pretty busy, but were definitely moving through everyone as quickly as they could. (I might have also come when some people were on a lunch break, it looked like more people were working towards the end of my visit.) Shiny smiling happy people is what you'll encounter when you go here. I went in to get the required California smog test to plate my car. I called around to about a dozen places to get quotes and finally decided this one's price was just right. Haji quoted $40 out the door if paying in cash plus using the Yelp check-in offer of 10% off. Can't go wrong with that. No appointment was necessary. Haji said just to come right in, they weren't that busy. The place is a little difficult to maneuver around in since there are a lot of cars parked that they are working on. Some nimrod was blocking the "out" driveway, and wasn't anywhere to be found, so I had to do a 3-point turnaround & go out the "in" driveway. No big deal. Located on the corner of University Avenue & 39th. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes, including the necessary paperwork that's needed by the DMV. The guys were funny, always cracking jokes with all of their customers, making the vibe there very friendly & laid back. The girls working the front desk also were friendly too. Through Groupon I discovered this Smog Testing site. My vehicle did not successfully pass the smog test the first time. A staff member stated I can get tested again within 30 days free of charge. Due to a car accident and other circumstances I was not able to return until months later. When I returned to the site I explained to Juan that my vehicle did not pass when I first visited; and, due to life challenges I was just not able to return sooner. He explained that I would have to re-purchase the smog test which was totally understandable. I showed Ricardo the discount I received on Groupon and he provided a discount for my new smog test. We came in to do registration, it got it done in no time, Mowlana, Hari and Mike were awesome! Super friendly and informative. They charge ~$80 for their service on top of DMV fees + other mandatory costs ( smog check, vin verification etc ) , but it is totally worth it. The same would take a day to do at DMV. read more
