I arrived at this campground for the first time and was greeted very warmly by the new hosts (a young couple). In all my experience at various campgrounds, I have never been welcomed like that. They were genuinely nice people and spent some time getting to know me. So refreshing! I then pulled into my space and I can tell already it's fantastic. The neighbors around me are quiet, nice, and everyone seems respectful. I immediately went out walking and found accessible trails with a small creek that immediately catches your attention. It's twilight now and despite the Park fire (only 100 miles away), it's very quiet despite being almost full. Also, relatively little road noise, considering where it is. This is definitely a magical little place, and I'm very glad I found it. I'll be back for sure. read more

The camp host Carol few years ago really traumatized me. When I drove in to check in, she yelled at me " READ THE SIGN " repeatedly. because I did not check in right away after I parked my car. When my friend who is white came up behind me to help me with the hostile "greeting " Carol stopped and suddenly became nice. I just thought I must be reading into it too much to think it was racism but reading other people's comment makes me wonder if I was really overthinking that time. Anyway, camp sites are very small next to each other but nicely maintained. I will however look somewhere else this time because I don't think I want to experience racism kind of vibe again. read more

This is a lovely campsite with excellent facilities. I particularly appreciate the copious hot water in the bathrooms and dish washing sinks. Unusual not to have to pay extra for hot showers. There is a wide variety of sites and my daughter and I particularly like those close ti the creek. It is gentle so safe for my two young grandsons to play in while we're doing camp chores. We were able to book a tent site along the creek easily a few weeks before the long weekend. Our site was nice and secluded. This campground has a lot of great amenities: flushing toilets; showers, dumpsters, dish sink, and an ice making machine. The campground was clean and the staff was friendly. We had no issues with parking but our site was for 1 car. read more

First off, if I could give zero stars I would. The first half of my trip was enjoyable, though we arrived late and had to set up in the dark. Then, halfway through the trip when we were out, my group received two very rude and threatening voicemails from carol, the camp manager, telling us to come back and move campsites or she would throw our stuff in the creek and call the police to move us. We had rented two campsites, one for two out of four days and one for all four, and were staying in the site we had booked for all four. Apparently the website we booked through had messed up, which is understandably not the manager's fault, but they had no right to yell at us, threaten property damage, or threaten to call the police on us. They also ruined the rest of the day we had planned, costing us time and money, as well as forcing us to move campsites. When I went to talk to carol as we were leaving, she called me stupid and an idiot, and refused to see she was in the wrong. As someone who has been here multiple times, I will never come here again, and the owners should reconsider employing such horrible people that treat paying customers poorly. Also, reading the other reviews here, it appears the managers are racists, which made it even more clear why we were being targeted, as half of our group were minorities. I would not be surprised if that was the reason why we were treated horribly. I will be contacting the owners of the site to complain. read more

My husband and I have been coming to this campground since 2009. This beauty, along with the creek and Emigrant Trail running right by the campground are very special features. Despite feeling like we are near wild areas, the place is close to Truckee and Tahoe-Donner amenities. The grounds are lovely, the restrooms immaculate - cleaned often and well - and the long-time hosts helpful, available to assist with anything and are familiar with the area. I gave the campground five stars for these reasons. read more

Will never return to this campground. Hosts were rude, disrespectful, homophobic. The only pro to the site was the ice machine and nice neighbor campers we had. The bathrooms were not kept clean, the camp host or whatever was yelling at a random Older women leaving the bathroom about it like it was her fault. We were targeted for noise complaints very obviously as he stated times we had already all gone to bed and were not making any noise. Do not recommend this campsite at all. read more

When you come to camp, you expect some level of privacy. This is a clean place but unbelievably small. I mean too small for any camp ground. You're straight up breathing on your neighbors and able to hear their full conversations. The website, in my opinion, hides that fact. The area is beautiful and the creek is pleasant, but I won't be coming back here due to the lack of space and privacy. It's also right in the backyard of some high end cabins. At the end of our trip we had a neighbor within 25 feet of us with a crying baby. Another neighbor (opposite side) with two barking dogs within about 40 feet of us and another barking dog one campsite over. We ended up leaving early. They do keep the area very clean and it's really a beautiful area. The hiking trails attached are also great. read more

Campgrounds are small and on top of each other. Camp hosts are extremely rude. Called me after the fourth day to tell me my awning was out too far and my dogs were barking inside my trailer and I needed to return immediately. The dogs only bark if someone knocks on the door. When I told them I was on my way back and I was an hour away they wanted to know why we were in NV and if we were there gambling. I obliged and returned to the campground and my dogs were not barking upon my return. I put my awning in like I was asked, however, the trailer next to me was parked and there was clearly no reason for me to have to return to my campsite instead of enjoying my last day of my five day visit to Truckee. I have camped for many years and I have never encountered a campground host as rude as they are. We are friendly, clean, and quiet campers and I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS CAMPGROUND! UPDATE-After reading other reviews this weekend I am convinced my family was a target because we were a multicultural group with four out of the ten people in our group being of african american descent. I am disgusted by their actions. When I attempted to ask Carol for the owner's information she said she's been the campground host for 13 years and she was not going anywhere and she refused to give me the information requested. Maybe it is time to involve a third party. I have never been treated so poorly. I should have known there was a problem when the camp host assumed the biracial couple next to us were our friends. I don't automatically assume all white people in the campground are friends so why assume we are friends because there are non-white people in both groups. read more

If I could negative stars I would. I am absolutely disgusted by the hosts of this campground. My family and I camped here for 5 days during the 4th of July weekend. They were rude, snide and repulsive (to put it lightly). I don't feel the need to go into great detail on here, but I am very upset after reading another Yelp review on here about the RACISM these camp "hosts" exhibited towards them and I feel that my family was also targeted because we are a mixed race family. It's a decent place to camp but the camp hosts are a little rude. I was there 5 days and saw a number of men going in and out of the ladies restroom. I brought it to their attention and asked for additional signs to be posted but it didnt happen. Had to start going to the shower in pairs just to have a ,0lockout lookout. So much for you family friendly place. I wouldnt want my little girls in the bathroom with men. My 4 year told me their was a man in the bathroom before I noticed. UPDATE: camp hosts rented an RV space to tent campers (next to us) and while they were out for the day, moved an RV into it and told them to share. What kind of crap is that? Didnt even offer their money back or another site. We moved them into one of our sites. This was just a couple of kids. Good kids too. A very well kept campground! Free showers, automatic toilets, sinks, sink to wash dishes and washer and dryers are available. I have never seen a campground that offers such up to date amenities! There is also access to a hiking trail within the grounds, volley ball court and ping pong table. Some of campsites are fairly close to each other but there are a few available that offer more privacy. You can tell the campground hosts really care about the grounds as there are cute signs and personal touches scattered about through the campground. The campground is located close to a residential neighborhood, but it still feels close to nature. I would definitely come back here! Perfect spot to spend the week. Our site was a bit warm in the afternoon due to limited shade (site 9), however, it was perfect for star gazing at night!! Lots of tall pine trees and open spaces. There are a few rather large cabins that overlook the camp, however, it didn't interfere with the beauty of the place. Nice, clean free showers. Large signs showing where things were. Bears came through after dark and saw deer as well. Water in the creek was pleasant to listen to. The hosts were very attentive and visible during your stay. Always struck up wonderful conversations! A great location to go for a swim at Donner Lake or take a drive into Tahoe. Would definitely recommend it and plan to return someday! read more

The campground itself is okay, it's got a lovely stream, but as a few reviews have said, the campsites feel crowded and almost on top of one another. If that was the only thing though, I would have given this campground three stars because location wise, I neither hate it or love it. Unfortunately, the campground has earned itself one star, and would have gotten even less if Yelp allowed it, due to the campground manager. While camping here with my boyfriend's family, all of whom are of Asian descent, we ended up dealing with some very targeted discrimination and confrontation by the campground manager Dan Johnson. Our first night we were enjoying playing a board game by our propane fire pit (important as wood and coal based fires are completely banned here for the summer), when Dan entered our campsite, belligerently yelling that it was 10:01pm, we were being far too loud and we needed to be quiet as he could hear us on the other side of the campground at his site. We were not being loud, all conversation was at a reasonable level, but we all quieted down as demanded. Soon after this, it became obvious that we were the only group confronted like this as another campsite across the stream from ours could be heard playing loud music, laughing, and talking loudly around their fire that was very much a real, wood fire which, as I pointed out earlier, is banned at this time due to high forest fire risk. It took another hour an a half for that group to quiet down and not once did Dan go there to ask them to quiet down. During this hour, we did some investigation and found that neither our campsite nor the loud one across the stream could be heard by Dan's campsite, but our campsite was the only one primarily populated by a minority group. We also found that it takes well over two minutes to walk from the his campsite to ours, even with shortcuts, meaning that he had set out to confront us before quiet hour had even started at 10pm and then waited to by our campsite until it was just past 10pm so that he had reason to come in an yell at us. When a member of our group confronted him about this and asked for an apology, Dan refused, stating he had been the manager here for 15 years and he didn't need to apologize to anyone, and proceeded to call said family member an asshole. The next evening we saw Dan repeatedly rounding on our campsite, while blatantly ignoring the other sites that he had to pass to get to ours, all of whom had decided to burn wood fires, completely going against the posted signs stating that was not allowed. Funnily enough all of those campsites were being used by non-minority families. I would say that if you are considering camping here, think twice about it, unless of course, your group consists of all non-minority individuals, in which case you will be fine. Otherwise, it would be best to take your money elsewhere as you won't end up getting to enjoy your camping trip due to the constant surveillance by Dan and his wife Carol. Hopefully Tahoe Donner looks into this soon, as it is starting to look like their camp ground has a serious issue with racial discrimination based off of not only my boyfriend's family's experience, but others that have left reviews here and on Google. read more

This place is great if you don't want a bunch of loud rude people around you! The camp hosts were awesome and I only have good things to say about our stay. We had a nice big spot (34 foot trailer) and were able to bike around the site as well as the trailer by the creek. I read some reviews before we went and all I can say is the people who didn't like this place can just stay away. They were probably the groups that are loud, rude and have no camping etiquette. If your looking for a place to stay that is friendly and just want some good family quality time without loud and obnoxious people filled in it...then this is it. We went kayaking at Boca which was only about 15 mins away. Had a great time and will be visiting again soon! read more

Campsite 36 provides a private site tucked back along the creek. Love listening to the sound of the water flowing by. Bathrooms are nice with power and flush toilets and also include 2 shower stalls at no charge. There is a sink for washing dishes, coin operated washer and dryer and an ice machine. Love the propane tank recycling station as well. Volleyball and ping pong provide extra entertainment. Fire ban is in effect so bring propane fires/grills only as no charcoal or wood fires are allowed. Be sure to bring your bug spray, mosquitoes are fierce. Dogs are welcome with a small fee. read more

Tahoe Donner (at Alder Creek) has won me and my fiancé's hearts. Having camped all over the western United States (myself) and taking a woman that has never camped in her life; this place made the best of impressions! Sites are standard in that they include a table, fire ring and area for tent (we stayed in tent site 38). Parking was plenty and even as a tent site the parking area was huge! Super simple to get to and not to far away from the hustle of Truckee this campground was super surprising! From the clean bathrooms and showers to even a laundry room and ice machine! Reservations was killer as Carol was able to get us in last minute for Labor Day weekend! Will come here over and over when in the Donner/Truckee area. read more

This campground has showers and flush toilets which is pretty rare. The bathrooms are pretty well maintained. It was a friendly group of campers the weekend we were there and the campground hosts are lovely people. Plus there is a volleyball court and ping-pong table. And we were able to roll in on Saturday afternoon toward the end of summer and pick up an empty site. Other campgrounds in the area were full that weekend. It's a little kitschy with little bear signs sprinkled all over. The sites have mulch and gravel on them and the campground is overlooked by a couple of houses so it's not a wilderness experience. Overall a nice and quite place to stay in Truckee that won't break the bank. read more

Just went this weekend. I enjoyed the campground, it's smaller which I like since we have young kids. It's clean, clean bathrooms. The downside is the camp hosts are rude. Basically quite time is 10 pm which is fine but they basically want you in bed.. we would be up talking amongst our group etc and they come yelling, threatening to call the police, called us irresponsible adults and more. Yelled at us and said hey are you smoking when we were eating sunflower seeds big difference there. Not nice people at all I won't go back. We got spot 21 I was able to book it last minute just looking for a place to get out of the heat to try out our new RV. Very clean, great jogging/hiking trail access and beautiful creek that had quite a bit of water flowing during our visit. Site 21 backed right up to cabins and hiking trail so it was rather busy/loud at times. There is awesome tent camping close to the creek and other campsites that didn't make it seem like you were camping in someone's backyard toward the creek but less space. We had hook ups (water/power) and the nice camp host delivered us firewood bundles $5 each. Overall I enjoyed our 1st outing in our RV at 36 weeks pregnant. read more

HORRID!! The hosts told me, "A pop in the mouth never hurt anyone" referring to my 16 month old baby who happens to cry (like a normal baby) I refused to, "Keep my child in line" and abuse my BABY! This was our first time coming to this campground, we loved it. I read previous reviews and was concerned about what was said about Host being rude, the gentleman came around to our campsite (#37) welcomed us, he chatted with us for a bit, very nice, the only thing he failed to inform us about was the bears! We brought our trailer and hooked it up to the electricity and water. Our refrigerator did not get cool right away so we left our food in 2 coolers outside, we had a visitor come in the middle of night and cleaned us out, left all wrappers, emptied containers, etc.. Needless to say we had to make a trip to local store to replenish and all food was then placed inside of trailer, we didn't see another bear the rest of our trip. Weather was great, warm during the day and cold at night, missed having a fire at night though. We will definitely come again next year, and be well prepared for them bears! read more

Arrived on a Sunday afternoon and wanted to spend Monday relaxing at our campsite. Unfortunately the Donner Tahoe Day Camp brings about 20 little kids to the campground 1-2 times or more a week for an "outing", We were awoken at 8am to the screams and yelling only to have them play in the stream directly below us. Stayed midweek. Very nice little RV/tent campground in Tahoe Donner. Very friendly hosts who keep the place very neat and tidy. About 10 mins from Truckee off N89 on Alder Creek Dr. Showers and bathrooms are very clean. Would be perfect if they had full hookups but they do have a dump site. A great place to stay with a nice little year round creek running thru. Great access to hiking and mt. bike trails. Emigrant Trail head can be reached from camp. read more

This will be my 5th stay at Tahoe Donner (Alder Creek) Campground. We love it. I have stayed at campgrounds all over California, this is one of my favorites. It's managed by a couple who are dedicated to keeping the grounds clean, safe, and comfortable for all. We bought firewood from them and they delivered it to our campsite. I've never had any campground that offered that. It's in a great location close to amenities yet sits on a quiet stream. Beautiful Alders, I strung up a hammock next to Alder Creek & relaxed with the sound of the water in the background. Bathrooms & showers were clean. My kids loved the ping pong & volleyball sand pit.
