    Silver Creek Campground Site 003

We have stayed at Silver Creek Campground about 3 times now over the past 3 years. It is close to Squaw Valley, where we usually have a timeshare at. The campground is close to 89, some people complain about the noise of the cars, but it isn't too bad. They allow dogs, and it is walking distance to the river. Short drive into Tahoe City or to Squaw Valley. Perfect getaway, never crowded and is usually low key and quiet. One of my favorite spots in Tahoe to camp, easy access to Squaw Valley for hiking and the village.

So relaxed after only one day away from all the digital world

This is my first time ever camping, so I don't really have references. But the space seems nice it's quiet yet close enough to civilization and activities on and around Lake Tahoe. It is very basic, no power and only one water faucet. But that's basically all it needs and it's great to escape some times. (I'm fully aware that it's not a real escape with LTE signal, writing this review. But at least I was sitting by the campfire LOL)

Pros On the Truckie river , near Tahoe , large campsites, twenty dollars per night. Con's Bees and Bears. Camped here in August there were a lot of meat bee's. Keep food covered and bring some bee trap's. All foodstuffs and any thing with odor have to be kept in a bear box. Overall a nice campground.

Campsite 27: very spacious and an amazing campsite which was just a stone's throw away from the creek behind the campsite. For campsite 27, parking is in the parking lot and not on the campsite - our campsite (#27) was a walk in site and hence away from the highway noise and closer to the creek :) which made the campsite all the more enjoyable! Campsite has beautiful view of the hills and the trees, walks along the creek, pleasant wade through the creek since water levels are low at some spots and the flowing water is not too rapid. All in all, we had a great time in the campsite. We generally camp twice a year and this is by far the best campsite we have camped at so far.

    bring a hammock!

First time camping here and actually enjoyed it. It's a nice campground , close to the stampede…read morereservoir so you just walk down to the water and can swim in it, and plus the drive to this campground is so beautiful, I was mesmerized the whole drive to and from. Just a few things to remember if you decide to camp here though: 1. You can have campfires with the pit, but you will need to bring your own firewood as the camp was sold out when we went and from what we were told by other campers there, they said it was $22 for the firewood. So be prepared to bring your own. 2. It's a bit of hike to get to the water plus if you want to go somewhere more flat and you are coming from the campground you may find yourself walking far to the other side , so keep in mind what you bring and what time you decide to go down to the water 3. There are deers that you may see, even this past weekend that I went , a deer was right by our campsite and close to our tent. 4. If you are tent camping or don't have a trailer and you are to use the bathrooms here.. beware it is pretty gnarly , so when booking a site you may want to be a little away from the bathroom as it does smell pretty bad even from a distant and you will also want to bring your own TP as they always are out by the end of the day into the next morning 5. Regardless if it is summer, bring yourself a jacket and be prepared for the cold , especially if you are tent camping. It get cold here at night and early morning. I was surprised also based off of someone elses review that they said they got talked to by the camp hosts/ ranger , because when we went this camp site on the other side of us were blasting their music and partying all the way till 2am without consequences , so maybe they have became more lenient. But for those that want a quiet camp experience if you are tent camping and don't have a trailer or camper to block out the noise, just be cautious that the sites are pretty close together and you will hear everything especially those that are partying while camping. Overall , I did enjoy this campground and happy to say I had my first woods camping trip here after a long time of not camping in the woods.

We chose this site out of last-minute necessity and proximity to Lake Tahoe. It's almost impossible to find last-minute camping, so we were happy to find a spot to car camp and throw some tents down after a long day on Lake Tahoe. The reservoir is very nice and water levels are still high thanks to the dam. Plenty of folks swimming, boating, and paddle boarding. The water temp was quite warmer when compared to other mountain lakes. The campground itself is very bare bones. You have a picnic table and fire ring with vault toilets. You'll want to look carefully at the site map when booking, as some of the waterfront sites are wonderful while others feel more like you're just camping in a dirt lot lol. There's very little shade here, so keep that in mind as well. If you're looking for privacy or quiet time, this is not the campground for you. The sites are squeezed in pretty close together and folks were quite loud into the night. Overall, the location and reservoir make it worth considering when exploring Truckee or Lake Tahoe. Sites are $28 with tax for 6 people. $5 for additional vehicles.

However, it was already quite crowded for mid-April, so I can only imagine how busy it gets later in the season. We didn't see a camp host during our stay, which wasn't a huge issue, but it might be something to keep in mind if you're someone who likes having that point of contact. Overall, a solid spot--just be prepared for a crowd if you're coming during the peak season.

There was only one site left, it was one close to the road but I was just stoked to get a spot! We were bummed to get an email 2-3 weeks before the reservation that Goose Meadow wasn't able to open on time this year because of all the snow from our heavy winter. Luckily, I got another email the week of the reservation and they said the campground is able to open on time! That is largely because the camp host and some other forest service workers went out and shoveled shady spots of the campground that still had over 4ft of snow. We met the camp host during our stay and he was really nice! Our site was right across from him and we had no issues with that. We've stayed at Silver Creek and Granite Flat in the past which are the other two campgrounds on 89 between I-80 and Palisades. Goose Meadow is definitely the best out of these three! The sites are more spread out and everything feels more private because the area is more heavily wooded. Plus, there are far fewer sites here than at the other campgrounds which makes it feel more lowkey and quiet. Our site was by the road, so you can hear some cars passing by. We didn't mind as we already expected that since we've camped in this area before. The prime spots are the ones closest to the river, but those fill up fast. You can easily make reservations online. Firewood is for sale from the camp host and there are waterspouts within the campground. Walking distance to the river. Bathroom facilities were nice and very clean. Each site has a fire ring, picnic table, and room for 1-3 cars (varies by site location). Only a 10 min drive to Palisades for spring skiing which you can't beat. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on leash. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!
