Today, I received extremely poor service here I WAS SO SHOCKED/OUTRAGED/OFFENDED 中国人大家不要去！！！避雷！！！ During the two-hour service I purchased, the masseuse left the room st least THREE times without closing the door, completely disregarding my privacy. Throughout the session, I could constantly hear dogs barking, other customers shouting, and loud conversations among the staff. The staff appeared to enjoy "gaslighting" male customers. Every time she came back from leaving the room, she kept telling me how generous other clients were（especially one WHITE man）how they wanted to buy her dinner or give her gifts. I endured it until the end, but I found it extremely inappropriate. I don't understand why, as a paying customer, I'm expected to develop a so-called "FRIENDSHIP" that involves giving gifts or treating the staff to meals. It's ridiculous. I paid for a massage, not for any other kind of "SERVICE." I am engaged, and this behavior is unethical. thank you if boss saw this msg，ur staff told me she does not receive any hourly wage, only tips. so pay ur staff hourly wage pls cuz she kept harassing me for not tipping her 50% !!!!!!! Wow. I honestly can't believe how bad this experience was. I came here expecting to relax, but instead it turned into a total nightmare. The room next door was ridiculously loud -- people talking, laughing, banging things -- and the staff just completely ignored it like nothing was happening. How on earth is this supposed to be a spa? And then, as if that wasn't enough, their DOG kept coming up right next to the massage bed. A DOG. In a spa. I couldn't even relax because I was worried it would jump on me. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional. After all that, I still tried to be polite and gave a $20 tip for a two-hour session -- which is absolutely fair -- and the staff actually had the nerve to get mad about it and pressure me to give more. They literally said I could just leave if I didn't. Excuse me? That's not just rude, it's disgusting. I walked out furious and honestly still can't believe I paid for that kind of treatment. I was polite and said Thank you for the services. The masseuse yells why didn't you GIVE ME A TIP. I said excuse me. She yells again you DIDN'T GIVE ME A TIP .. Those of you who have read my past reviews know that I'm a big fan of Chinese reflexology & "foot spas." I should make it clear if you're looking for serene ambiance and a traditional high-end spa, this is not that type of massage place. The reflexologists here have experience with traditional Chinese techniques involving acupressure & Chinese Qi meridian methods. They will work out knots and help you rebalance your body systems. Many foot spas start by soaking your feet in hot water infused with herbs for detox, but that is a separate service at this place. Even though they focus on acupressure, it isn't simply pushing on pressure points. You can count on real deep tissue work, but there isn't a lot of discussion about how much pressure you prefer. I would suggest you communicate that before hand if this is an issue for you. Also, in traditional Chinese reflexology, the buttocks are massaged. If you aren't comfortable with that, also let them know ahead of time. There is not much ambiance, and there can be distractions at times, but this place is perfect to get a traditional Chinese reflexology work done in the South Street area. read more

AMAZING! At 8 months pregnant, I had painfully sore, swelling feet, ankles, wrists, and hands. I could barely put weight on either foot without a slight limp and deep wobble. The masseuse provided excellent pressure, but not too much to trigger contractions or induce labor. He was very careful and attentive. At the end of the hour I saw a huge decrease in the swelling of my feet and ankles. My stride greatly increased and the soreness decreased as well. I am so HAPPY I found this place. I'm tempted to go again tomorrow while the family is sight seeing. A diamond in the rough with reasonable prices. $1 a minute. If you pay in cash, no tax, which is an 8% savings off the services, a fee I would rather leave as a tip than to the state. Go! You will not be disappointed. read more

Wow. I didn't think it could get any better! I went back to Tai Chi and asked for Jason, but they said he was on vacation. I asked for another man because I wanted a strong deep-tissue massage, and they said Michael was free. I came in and saw how big Michael was. I got a 90-minute deep-tissue massage, and I almost regretted it because Michael was able to make it very painful, in a good way! :) I wanted as much good pain as possible on the trigger points because that is a sign that the massage is going very, very deep into the muscle. Michael was fabulous. As I learned later during the massage, he was trained as both a modern-medicine doctor and a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor. His father and grandfather were doctors, and he now has a daughter who is training to be a doctor. Four generations! His English was excellent, better than any other Chinese massage therapist I have had. The massage was very strong. At one point, I could feel that he was going very deep and pushing as hard as he could, and then he put one of his feet against the wall to push even more! I was trying so hard not to say anything because I knew this was excellent pain for my back and that I would feel that much better when stood up. Eventually I had to ask him to go a little lighter, and we both started laughing because he was going as hard as he possibly could into my back, and I was trying so hard to just breathe and not say anything (because I wanted as much pressure as I could take without saying anything). For such an unassuming place, we loved it. Didn't plan on having it as a couple session but they put us in a room together. Both of the girls were thorough, down to massaging our facial and cranial nerves! I went in with a throbbing back and neck and left feeling a million times better. For $60 I got a massage that I would've paid twice for. I don't know about anyone else that went here, but we loved it and will be back. It's clean and we got our money's worth. Don't judge this spa by its' outward appearance! It's a very clean and simple set up on the inside but everyone who works at Tai Chi is very nice and they give a fabulous massage for a reasonable price. I suffer from chronic back pain and neck tension and the therapy here helps with those symptoms. I recommend a 90 minute session with "Jack" and you leave feeling relaxed and restored. While I love a firm massage with a lot of pressure you can ask for whatever you prefer and they will accommodate you. Don't be afraid to point out to them the areas of your body that need work. Nothing but great experiences here but just keep an open mind...it's not fancy but they give a better massage than most 5 star spas in Philadelphia. read more

I use massage for therapy and am fairly picky about where I go. This is my favorite place in Philly, under the radar for sure, but the people here are intuitive healers. They do not speak English completely fluently which I think is their batman skill, because they are extremely aware of the body and have found my aches and pains without me verbalizing their location. I think this is a hidden gem, a place with people who have a traditionally-inspired and deep understanding of massage therapy. If you go, i recommend both the table massage and the foot massage! The lady was playing hot potatoes on my back with the hot stones.... 1. The massage was mediocre. I went in for a 60 minutes deep tissue massage and all I got was some elbows and some arm motions.. She barley used her fingers like the other massage places. 2. I did not like how the lady ran in and out of the room to get the hot stones and surprised my back without any warnings. At one point she left the hot stones on my back and it was burning I tell yah.. I can tolerate pain but that burn was not good for your skin! 3. I had also requested a 10 minutes foot massage that felt rushed... 4. The total came up to $75 and I had paid with my card and I had given her her tip in cash. I'm very generous when it comes to tipping I normally tip $20-40, but the service was not worth it. The lady demanded that I tip her a whole $10? For what? For giving a half ass massage, burning my back, and rushing the whole foot massage. She looked at the money and rolled her eyes. She was very ungrateful. As someone who gets many massages 40+ a year I feel that I am highly qualified to give a very fair assessment. I must say that I would be hard pressed to top the unprofessionalism and "half-assed" "massage" I experienced from this facility. The first issue I had was that there was an actual price negotiation(!) and that I was told to "Shhhh" because they didn't want the other customers to hear how great of a deal I was getting. Of course I know that at one dollar a minute it was a bit high for an Asian massage pallor though given the South St., Philadelphia location I figured it was reasonable because the rent is a bit higher. regarding the actual massage itself it was essentially a woman laying a towel over my body from neck to feet and halfheartedly rubbing it around. Usually they will start with the towel on which I presume is to soak up body oils and give some extra friction to loosen up or stretch muscles it seems to be what's done everywhere. Thenabout 10 minutes since the massage I noticed the towel was not coming off (of course I was wearing underwear) , Finally she said "do you want an oil massage" ,I said "I'm sorry?" she said "oil...lotion?". Of course oil and or lotion is as much a part of the deal as the table or having a roof on the building. I said sure I will take "oil" she said okay but only if you tip extra. At first it sounded like something illegitimate but the vibe I got was she was just fishing for more money and of course I was right. She then proceeded to halfheartedly move the oil around and give an extremely amateur massage. The whole time I was laying there I just Kinda couldn't wait for it to be done. The place seems to be clean and well lit but that was all there was to it on the positive end. As far as paying I left what in this case was a generous 15% tip and was then questioned as to why didn't tip moreI thought about crossing the tip off on the credit card receipt but that's not my style I just walked out. Before my last massage, this place was 5 stars. A very strong Thai massage in which the hour was an adventure. However, my last experience with the male masseuse was such a disappointment. If I wasn't such a pushover, I wouldn't have paid at all. The hour massage clearly states that hot stones are part of it. Well, this guy skipped over that part. When I mentioned this at the end of the hour, he still sent me on my way and charged in full. In addition, the rest of his massage was mediocre. More of a rub and none of the strong, deep massage I became accustomed to from the female staff. I will definitely go back to the Thai Chi Healing Spa, but will walk out of my only option is the dude that I got last time. Ask for Judy, she's the best. read more

Wow! The massage I got from Mary was the best I've ever had! I got the deep tissue massage for one hour. She was able to stay strong the whole time and never eased up! She was able to get out so many knots. Her technique was great and I will definitely come back. I tipped her $25 dollars instead of the usual $10 that I do. This was awesome. I don't know who my masseuse was, I asked if it was Judy but she said a name I can't pronounce. It was painful, but great, and I had too much pride to admit it but I'm glad I didn't ask her to lighten up. I did $40 mins but it feels like she went longer so I tipped her $10. The massage was as good or better than my Toppers experience, though their facility is obviously better. This place is around the corner. I plan to make this a monthly event. read more

Disclaimer: I hate massages, so this is a review not to comment on the quality of the massage compared to others, but a review people who might view them as a necessity, not a pleasure. I'm not a fan of the ceremony, ambiance, and what have you. I just don't find it enjoyable. I've only had two in my life (prior to this one). But after scrubbing all my floors on my hands and knees one day, I woke up the following day with muscular pain in my lower back and buttocks. It was something I figured my chiropractor couldn't fix, so off I went to Tai Chi Healing SPA because I had passed it a hundred times before. The prices are clearly marked. A dollar a minute, although a tiny bit more for a deep tissue massage. Walk in, no appointment. Get your massage. Done. (Yes, You might try to be persuaded to get a longer one. Just say you have another appointment and need to be out of there by such-and-such a time.) The following day, the pain that had been so annoying was just the slightest of a whisper and then by the end of the day was gone. And, I will admit - wonder of wonders - I actually DID enjoy it (of course, while inwardly screaming at times, because at times: ouch!!) ! This place CLEARLY posts their prices. They are reasonable. It's a big place (the smaller rooms are lovely, though) so you don't need an appointment. AND: the proof is in the pudding. The deep tissue massage I got FIXED my problem. read more

I have gone to Tai Chi Healing Spa at 420 South Street in Philadelphia, pa. 3 times now. my massage therapist LILI was great. Very friendly and gave me a great massage. I don't know if it was the owner, but this woman that works at Tai Chi Healing Spa demanded that I give my therapist a tip. The first time I went there I gave my massage therapist a $20.00 tip. Unfortunately the second and third visit I couldn't afford to give a tip. I went there yesterday Saturday May 14th and after I was done my massage. The woman demanded that I give LILI a tip. I explained to her that I did not bring enough money to give a tip and she started a big fight with me. She told me if I don't give a message therapist a tip the next time I come there that she won't allow me to come there ever again. She atarted screaming at me outside and she made a huge scene which was very unprofessional and not necessary. I do not recommend this place for a massage. It is up to the customer if he or she can afford a tip. This lady demands tips which is very unprofessional. I will never go there ever again. Albert. read more
