Yummo! Go here! We checked this place out because of a mention in our hotel magazine about it being one of the best fish and chips in Scotland and they weren't wrong! This is a sit down restaurant located in the basement, not what we expected, but much better than a basement sounds! Several of us ordered their classic haddock fish and chips and it was battered perfectly! Light, crispy and delish! This was the best fish and chips we had during the trip and there were many good ones. Side salads were yummy and huge. Coleslaw was just ok, supppper creamy. I prefer the mushed peas. The chorizo and fish starter was good, but not worth recommending or repeating. Local beers on draught available. Our server gave us a great recommendation for a bar after (Duke's Corner). Dessert special was a traditional Scottish dessert of oats, berries, cheesecake and whiskey and was worth trying!

Tailend was recommended by the receptionist at our hotel and we're so glad we listened to him! We didn't mess around and both ordered fish and chips = yummmm!! The place has a casual quaint vibe and they have a partnership with Eden Mill so they use their gin bottles as flower vases (they were so cute, I had to ask about them and buy one the following day). Also, a couple walked in 5 minutes before the scheduled closing, but they sat and served them anyway! Now that's customer service.

    So you can find it!

There's some tough competition in Dundee for chippers (including Silvery Tay) but I think this one wins hands-down! A little more expensive than the alternatives but worth the difference!

Outstanding food, service in a vibrant bright atmosphere. Had the classic fish and chips with coleslaw and we shared the tender onion rings.

The best fish and chips I've ever had and the tartar sauce and mushy peas are lovely and are very nostalgic

Both were very good and I would return, but I'm not sure they were the best I had while in Scotland.

Walking into Tailend, the energy of patrons enjoying their meal is infectious. The decor is modern…read morebut comfortable. There is a nice variety of seafood on offer on the menu but the better choice is to select your fish from tonight's specials on the wall. That's what we did and we were very satisfied. The wine menu is limited. We chose a Pouilly Fuse that was unfortunately not drinkable. The staff were kind enough to take it back. I then chose the IPA that was much better. The appetizer recommended by our server was the mussels. These were best mussels I've ever enjoyed. It was served with a sauce made with garlic, butter, milk, and onion. It's good enough to be a soup! Our sides included brocholini and halumi. Both were excellent. The brocholini was flavorful and crunchy with a nice sauce-though know that the sauce has ham in it. The cheese, lightly fried is served with a spicy sauce that I really enjoyed, bit was too much for my wife. It was superb. We selected the monkfish and sea bass for our mains. Both were excellent, moist and flavorful fish-generous portions of each. This was an extremely satisfying and enjoyable meal. It was I've of our best in Scotland. We were frankly unable to eat more and we didn't have dessert.

So I went back the next day by myself, I did rsvp for 1 for 3pm, which was't necessary. After looking at the menu, went with: - Haddock & Chips with mushy peas. One thing I do like about this place was that, they offer different fish options, but no cod, thus I went with haddock. They do better job with frying their fish. The fish and the batter did not fall apart. The mushy peas was not my cup of joe :) When you walk in, to your right is the kitchen, where you can order for take out, walk towards the left to go to the dining room. The service was mediocre, thus only three stars. The wait staff rarely stopped by to check on you or refill your water, you had to hunt them down to get more water.
