The place is exactly how I remember it. Small town hole in the wall charm upfront, dated attempt at upscale in back. Like a reverse mullet. But in a charming way. The waitress was friendly and she kept the coffee coming. The coffee was excellent and the best part of the meal. I got the chicken fried steak and eggs. They had brown gravy on request which is always a big plus in my book. (White gravy is just sausage stuck in flour paste in my book, but that might just be me) The eggs and toast were cooked perfectly and delicious. But the steak sadly was well overdone and the breaking burned black. As a result it was dry as can be and had a bitter burned taste. The gravy helped but we were 2 steps from cremation so not enough. The people I was with got an excellent omelette and a single pancake that was as big as a dinner plate. All great food on their report. I would go back in a heartbeat. Not going to hold 1 bad item against them. Plus for me the nostalgia was off the charts.

I stumbled across it on a Foodie group and it looked…read moreso good that I decided to take the 20 minute drive up to the Flint Hills just so I could try it out. I am telling you it is well worth it! Other then it being a little loud in the back room all the food is made from scratch and the salad dressings are house made as well. I hear the prime rib is amazing as well which is available on Friday's. My favorite part was probably the homemade salad dressing, the salad is fresh which is nice for a change. Another thing is they do not skimp on the portion size. The potatos under the huge chicken fried steak is so good! You cannot go wrong with the burnt ends drowned in the barbeque sauce either. Any other questions?

The presentation was excellent, as the fried steak was served on top of mashed potatoes. For my side, I selected cheesy potatoes. The cheesy potatoes weren't very impressive, just hash browns and cheese. The chicken fried steak was cooked perfectly. The gravy was average. Didn't have that country style gravy taste, which unfortunately couldn't compliment the perfectly cooked chicken fried steak. An individual in my party noticed a clear substance on the lip of my water glass. We wiped the substance off of the glass and noticed it was pink and sparkly. Our reasonable guess was this was lip stick or lip gloss. Upon further review, a second party also noticed this on this glass. It was a slight appetite killer, and not a good first impression. Our waiter was great, but was unable to answer a few of our questions regarding the menu. She stated she was new, which is completely fine. This may be a good opportunity for them to review the menu, and learn what beers are on tap/drinks are offered. Lastly, our order took quite a bit longer than what was expected. We were the second party in the establishment, so a 25-30 minute wait seemed a bit excessive. Overall, I recommend 3 out of 5 stars. Since we drove 30 minutes to eat, the food was good, but not good enough to drive out again.

Beans are old and funny tasting. My wife's fries taste like oil and have no substance to them. The shrimp bang bang was a mess. 2 or 3 pieces were ok. We didn't finish most of our order. My KC strip was tough and didn't "feel" like a KC strip. I buy whole roasts and cut down at home. This was too large and didn't have the correct texture. Prices are still out of sight for even the correct cuts. I think they are substituting cheap cuts to make more money. Our waitress was polite and seemed new. Only mistake she made was being water instead of our sodas. No big deal. I gave her a tip because it's not her fault the food was substandard It's sad when you cannot get a good meal in your home town in the evenings unless you want Mexican or Italian (pizza). I will never spend another dollar here. My wife's order. Coke, Bang Bang Shrimp Fries My order. Coke Loaded Nachos KC Strip Medium with Mashed Potatoes and Veggies.
