Last Friday, we spontaneously decided to give Tai's Asian Bistro a shot. I've noticed this place for years since moving to Wisconsin, but somehow never got around to trying it. I really missed out! We initially planned to grab takeout from A-Mart Deli, but when we found it closed, I figured it was finally time to check out Tai's. Food came out super fast, the lady at the counter was very sweet when I asked her what she would recommend. The space is clean and cozy. Everything was fantastic! The egg rolls, sesame chicken, ribs, and the Chow Ho Fun were some of the best I've ever had. The only dish that didn't quite impress was the Pad Thai. It seems like the key is to stick with the Chinese dishes there rather than the Thai or Vietnamese options. Regardless, the food was incredible, and I think I hesitated to try it due to all the negative reviews. Now I know where I'll be going for my next Chinese takeout! read more

Decided to try out Tai's Asian Bistro after some shopping. It's conveniently located in the strip mall near TJ Maxx on the west side. I tried the chicken lo mein which was delicious and the perfect amount. The pad tai we ordered was huge but not my favorite I've tried - still ok. The general tsos chicken was unreal. Wish I would've taken pictures of our take out but didn't. I got the honey walnut shrimp, spicy crispy chicken, black pepper chicken, crab Rangoon, string bean, and chicken on sticks. Honey walnut shrimp, shrimp was flatten, battered and fried with sauce. Black peppered chicken- did not taste like black pepper chicken. The sauce on there was way too sweet. Spicy crispy chicken- was very saucy which was not good because usually it isn't mixed in a sauce and was not crunchy because it was mixed in a sauce. String bean- was bland. Clean Asian restaurant on the west side with fast service and good Asian food! It really is an Asian bistro as there is Chinese, Thai, and Korean dishes on the menu. My friend likes to come and eat here to get their ginger onion fish, so I will be back for that experience, but for now I can only comment on togo. They are super fast, my food was done in about 10 minutes. We ordered beef ho fun, which I just say is the closest to authentic ho fun (thick noodles) in Madison. It was quite good and definitely recommend. The Korean bbq lunch special is a great deal. Comes with rice, salad, and some sushi. The sushi was just 3 pieces of a California roll, but good. The salad was good too and the dressing was great. The bbq meat was alright as well. Nothing spectacular, but the rice was sub par. The crab Rangoons were also just classic. Overall, I would give this place 3.5 stars but would come back for the ho fun and to have a more traditional Chinese dish. The meal that I ate from Tai's was good. The dumplings were good and the dumpling sauce was very yummy. I enjoyed the noodle dish I chose (beef chow no fun) even though it was a little skimpy on the beef. The noodles were plenteous and tasty, but on the slightly greasy/oily side. If you enjoy thick noodles a la pad see ew style, I think you would enjoy the ho fun. The few pieces of beef that were there were tender and tasty. The pad Thai was the main issue of this visit. It was oddly very sweet. Almost akin to sweet and sour sauce on noodles. The weird orange color should have thrown me off from the beginning, but if you like traditional pad Thai, I don't think you would like it from here. Super sweet tasting and comes with a lemon wedge instead of a lime.... Weirdly unauthentic. I would like to try their American Chinese food in the future, and their lunch prices are reasonable from what I saw on their menu. Although the experience wasn't perfect, for the price and the speed, I think it's worth it, and I'll likely be back (but not for the pad Thai). read more

I'm still in search of a go-to American Chinese restaurant and haven't found it yet, even going to Tai's. This was a recommendation from my friend. I ordered sesame chicken which was actually a lot tougher to chew, lackluster on the breading and and had a tangy component I wasn't really into. The house lo mein was also disappointing as it really only carried a soy sauce flavor and lacked depth. Some of the meats like the pork was dry. I will say, both dishes felt freshly prepared and also were not greasy, something I find often and displeasing. Maybe I'll be back, but it'll be to order something else. read more

I find it very difficult to find good Chinese food at in any area. The restaurants I loved had closed (Jade Garden and Dynasty II) and our friends were hungry for Chinese. I was wary, as I usually am. When we got the food, it seemed to be alright. The crab rangoons were great. However, the sesame chicken was dry inside the breading, but wet outside. It was overcooked. Big fan of this place! My boyfriend and I chanced upon this restaurant over Memorial weekend while waiting for the evening crowd at Vitense Golfland (down the road) to die down. We were initially going to order takeout, but after seeing a completely empty dining space, we decided to dine in at any restaurant for the first time since March 2020. Our experience was so great that we went back the following weekend for dine-in again! The food: We've ordered the dinner special (a "bento box" of an entree, fried rice, crab rangoon, California rolls, and salad) and some more authentic Chinese dishes (stir fried pea tips, crispy chicken (Taiwanese popcorn chicken), and dry crispy chicken). The amount of food they give you for the price is HUGE! I'm a little surprised they're making a decent profit given how much food you get. I think there might also be some magic happening in the kitchen because the food has been ready within 10 minutes both times. All of the food is pretty good and piping hot. No major qualms. I was definitely disappointed by the authentic dishes though. Pea tips were undercooked, and the dry crispy chicken is just the crispy chicken dish drizzled in chili oil, but they were tasty nonetheless. The service and cleanliness: It seems like the restaurant is run by a family (mom, pop, grandparent, and kids), and you can clearly tell they're doing their absolute best to leave a good impression on everyone. They're quick, clean, and very friendly. I've seen the mom have a conversation with at least 10 people who were picking up takeout from just the two times we've dined in. The bathrooms are super clean too. The restaurant also has an open kitchen, and I know it's brought a lot of comfort to my boyfriend to see everyone in the kitchen wearing a mask while cooking our food. One of the most affordable restaurants in town. For the price that they offer the serving size was well worth it. What is holding this place back is the quality of the food. I've tried several items on here with mixed results. Some of the food were great and taste authentic while some lack any of the taste one would expect if it's something you had before. One of my carry-out was Pad Thai and the container was packed to its limit. But the Pad Thai was packed along with a serving of white jasmine rice, which is not something that Pad Thai usually served with. The Pad Thai itself offered little flavors, tasting like soy sauce rather than the traditional fish sauce. It also lacked the taste of shrimp paste that is a common ingredient in Thai cooking. Overall it's a good place to grab a quick and cheap bite but you if you want authentic food I would suggest not going here read more

During these uncertain times, I'm glad Tai's is still open for business. No dining in but take away still available. Tai's still one of our regular food provider during this pandemic. We have been sticking to our regular dishes - crispy chicken with basil, eggplants with tofu, pea tips & beef fried horfun. To keep the chicken crispy, they cut a vent in the box. That's so thoughtful. I place my order and paid over the phone. They put the bag of food on a rack just inside the first door so it is easy to pick up. Like many restaurants, the only high touch point there is that door. Tai's has a bottle of sanitizer in the table by the door so use it. I feel very safe getting my meals from Tai's. read more

Ordered two dinner boxes that come with 2 crab rangoons, salad, 4 pieces of sushi, fried rice and main dish, each. The sushi was very fresh and crab rangoons were super crispy. I got the Korean short ribs and some pieces were still not fully cooked through and a bit red on the inside. The honey walnut shrimp was very good though. Fried rice is a bit bland and dry. Decent little gem in the area! We have always driven past but never stopped by before until going with a few friends. First of all, this is not a place to order that satisfying Chinese-American takeout food that everyone craves once in awhile I don't think (such as orange chicken, lo mein, etc.). Secondly, everything is self-serve (grab your own bowls and plates in the corner and clean up after yourself). We ordered several dishes from one of the combos and had pea tips, popcorn chicken, sauteed clams in black bean sauce, Asian style BBQ ribs, and fish in spicy oil. The pea tips were excellent as was the popcorn chicken. Sauteed clams in black bean sauce is always salty so it was as good as any place. The ribs were delicious but very fatty in my opinion, which made it tough to eat. The fish in spicy oil was the most disappointing part of our meal. It was bland and the flavoring was very one-dimensional. Four of us finished these five dishes without any leftovers, but the prices were very fair. I'll definitely come back if I want a family style meal and definitely will try other things on their menu. read more

I'm torn between giving Tai's Asian Bistro either a 3 star or perhaps 4, but I think it can solidly be a 3.5. Overall, there are a lot of authentic Taiwanese food here at a semi-affordable price. There's actually so many selections on the menu, that it can be overwhelming trying to pick what to eat. We're dined in a few times, but more often than not, we usually just order take out, pay at the counter and leave. The restaurant as a whole has a lot of seating available, however it's not a typical dine-in, with a waitress taking orders at the table experience. All orders are taken at the counter and paid up front, and then if you eat in, then it'll be served directly to your table. Otherwise, you can take a seat and then grab pick up to go. The food is quite typical of an Asian stall food, and the quality of the food is decent for the type of establishment that it is. The duck noodle soup that I got today had a rich beefy broth, with good proportion of duck and noodles. The noodles was a bit sticky in the sense that it was stuck to each other, but nonetheless delicious in combination with the broth, duck meat, baby bok choy veggies and bean sprouts. I specifically asked for no green onions as I always do, and was assured that the dishes no longer comes with green onions (even though in the past it did and I had to send it back to the kitchen only to have them try to remove the green onions from the fish as opposed to making a fresh dish). So for that, I am glad that I did not have to send the dish back since it was made right the first time around. The one thing that I'd recommend is to pass on ordering any of the bubble teas, it is not fresh ingredients and the tapioca is hard to chew. Even the way that the cashier lady makes it makes you weary of drinking it (she used water and ice from the soda machine on the side outside the counter, hot from from the container inside, and then milk from underneath the container). Look at the menu ahead of time, and place a phone order in advance, so you can grab a meal to go. It's a good place for when you're carving more authentic Asian cuisine at reasonable prices. read more

This place has prices online from 4 years ago. Everything is about 4 dollars more than their menu online and I've told them this and they do nothing. Apart from that I asked the counter woman what her fave dish was. She said the Braised Beef so I ordered it. What terrible food! More than half the meal was inedible pieces of fat!!! I think about 8 pieces of the meat and potatoes were solid gristle and I spit them out. This dish is 18 dollars. I'd heard good things, so went there for a pickup order. I ordered D7, Chef's special Curried Shrimp which was listed as spicy. There was no hint of curry that I could taste. And spicy? It was not at all, but very bland instead. No heat. I called to ask if there could have been a mistake. The answer was "no, we use yellow curry, which is very mild". I then commented on how they list it as spicy. The answer was that they could have made it more spicy. That wasn't an option on the menu, like in most asian restaurants. We were excited to try this place after reading all the good reviews and seeing the pictures of delicious entrees on Yelp. But our experience first time here was terrible. The dishes we got were all overcooked or tasteless- crispy whole fish was dry, overcooked, and chewy. The ginger garlic sauce it came with tasted pretty good, though, and at least gave the fish some moisture and flavor. The duck soup tasted like someone just poured water over pieces of overcooked duck and greens- no hint of spice or seasoning in it. Even the pea tips with garlic just tasted like the soy sauce they were swimming in. I took them home and out of all the soy sauce, added ginger, black pepper, and a bit of oyster sauce, and they tasted loads better. Not many people were eating in the restaurant when we came, but they do a constant business of takeout orders. Maybe there's certain entrees that are popular for takeout? For tasty, authentic Chinese food, there's a few other restaurants in Madison that were way better than here. read more

The family menu at Tai's is excellent and honestly some of the best Chinese food I've had anywhere in the US. Our favorites include the steamed sea bass, crispy chicken, and stir fried pea tips. Their takeout containers are packed and secured nicely and the food comes out really quickly. They're quite flexible in terms of food preparation since everything is made right in front of you in the open kitchen. Everybody that we've recommended Tai's to has loved it, from coming multiple days in a row to driving some takeout all the way back to Chicago after a weekend trip. read more
