The stewed beef chuck, which is really beef noodle soup, was ok. Good portion size, good amount of beef and bok choy. If you get it to go, they put the noodles and stuff on a tray that sits on top of the broth, which is really cool. The broth was lacking in flavor, very bland. My partner and I drive from NYC to Vermont at least once a year, and every single time we make a midpoint stop here. Taiwan Noodle consistently serves absolutely delicious food. The spicy wontons are our all-time favorite the sauce is incredibly flavorful, and unlike many places where the wontons are mostly dough, these are generously filled with meat. We also ordered the beef chunk soup and the salt-and-pepper fish. Even though I've been here many times, the salt-and-pepper fish was new to me on this visit, and it was fantastic crispy, perfectly seasoned, with little bits of fried garlic and a sweet-and-sour dipping sauce that was so good. An unsuspecting little spot located in the heart of Albany. I loved the vibes of Taiwan noodle. You can tell everything is made fresh in house like their dumplings and thick wheat noodles. The star of the show for me was definitely their noodle soups. We ordered the stewed beef chuck noodle soup and spicy diced chicken. I've been dying to try Taiwan Noodle and I finally got the chance! Since it's on Central Avenue, there's street parking, which was easy to find when I went on a Sunday afternoon. There were plenty of tables and we were sat immediately. We were surrounded by families enjoying lunch. Since it was my first time there, I wanted to try a few different things, so here's what we ordered: -Chicken Soup Dumplings -Chicken Shumai -Pork Buns -Spicy Pan Fried Dumplings I've had soup dumplings at several places so I knew what to expect. Unfortunately, there wasn't much broth in them but they were flavorful. The shumai was absolutely delicious. It had bits of corn and carrots on top, which was off putting at first, but boy were they tasty! The pork buns were delicious pillows of pork - highly recommend! Lastly, the Pan Fried spicy dumplings were just ok. I would order something different next time as they weren't super flavorful and not as spicy as I would've liked. We are from Northern Virginia, and so we are spoiled by the great Asian cuisines we have here...and upstate NY doesn't have a whole lot in this dining category - it's a challenge. Taiwan Noodle was pretty decent. I had the house soup. My daughter ordered the fried chicken and the spicy wontons. I also had the shrimp dim sum. The best dishes were the dim sum...the shrimp dim sum was good, and so were the spicy wontons, very standard. The fried chicken was good as well. My House Special Soup - Just Okay. Broth was passable, and noodles were fine. I really liked the stewed beef. Pork chop was fine. Bok Choy and mushrooms tasty. Eggs, just okay. I would probably order something else next time. We liked the dim sum the best. I would be willing to explore other parts of their menu, as I think there is potential there, especially with the beef. Service was fast and attentive. Appreciate the bok choy on the side as well, nice refreshing addition to the dish. The spicy wontons in chili oil were phenomenal as always, and you can never go wrong with shrimp shumai (be mindful of any dietary restriction: both of these have pork). Passing through on our way from Boston to Buffalo we decided to stop by Albany and pick this place to dine. From outside the place looks small and old, but to our surprise the inside is bright, clean and nice. Food is very good, we like all that we pick. This is a hidden gem on Central Ave. The restaurant is small and quaint with framed newspapers highlighting their many accolades over the years. The staff are friendly and get you seated with water and drinks quickly. The menu offers a large assortment of various dishes that all sound as delicious as the next. The appetizers, though I didn't get one on this visit, are reasonably priced and delicious. I highly recommend the spicy potato salad, wood ear salad, or Taiwanese fried chicken. The dim sum is also very delicious! This time around I was only there for lunch, so I went with a fried rice dish with house style mixture. The pork chop was tender and delicious, the mushrooms flavorful, and the beef melts in your mouth. One of my favorite parts of any dish has to be the soy egg. It's always so flavorful and an excellent addition to any plate. Overall, this restaurant is perfect for anyone looking for some delicious Asian cuisine. But at Taiwan Noodle you don't get noodles, you get noodle. The Pad See Ew is worth fighting over. Pork. Spicy level 3 or higher. Drunken Noodle. I do like the noodles, but it's hard to get full on just one. The veggies are out of this world, though! Pad Thai! Yasssssssss, gurl! The flat noodle was super good. I was pleasantly surprised by the food here, and the minimalist interior and casual vibe work for me, too. The minced pork over rice was impressive, and the mince was one of the better versions we've had. The egg was nicely flavoured I wish it was bigger. The fish fillet was cooked to perfection with crisp on the outside and streaming and tender on the inside, and the garnish with chopped capsicum and garlic were a nice complement. Like so many Asian restaurants, this was close to downtown, so not a great neighborhood. Fortunately, it is on the main Street, so you get a good mixture of clients. If you're looking for good Chinese food in Albany, this is your place! Way cheaper than Ala Shanghai (the other popular Chinese restaurant). Not everything was a hit but the two things we ordered that we would reorder are the seasonal vegetables, the chili wonton and the beef noodle soup. When we ordered the pork over rice which came in a steamer with bamboo leaves I totally thought the rice was like the Chinese sticky rice. But it was just regular rice. It came with a flavored hard boiled egg, minced pork and more bok choy. My husband had a similar pork dish but spicer and over rice. The heat was there but didn't overwhelm the other flavors. As appetizers we had delicious, crispy scallion pancakes and hot and sour dumplings. My youngest son and I also enjoyed delightful bubble tea. The service is very attentive but not intrusive. Nothing beats home style food in a new city. The Chinese food here is delish and they have almost anything for anyone who loves Chinese. They have soups, dumplings, stir fry rice dishes and bubble tea! I personally ordered the steamed rice with pork belly and Chinese sausage. It's similar to the clay pot rice; it's a one pot meal where you mix everything up and pour some soy sauce on top. The servers were attentive. Ask for some hot tea to complete the whole experience. First let's get on the same page about what Taiwan Noodle is not. It is not a fancy, trendy spot. There is no bar, no alcohol. It's not fancy and it's not trying to be fancy. But Taiwan Noodle most definitely does not need to try to be anything that it's not. Because it is PURE DELICIOUSNESS. OMG. Seriously. Taiwan Noodle is not huge, but plenty of seating and can accommodate larger parties or a single diner, like me. Nice, simple, bright space. Also! Off street parking lot. Which, if you know Central Ave in Albany is a pretty cool thing. I had looked at the menu and food pics online and when I saw ROWS OF DUMPLINGS I knew I was going. I am always going to give Dim Sum a try. I don't eat beef, pork or poultry, which usually isn't a problem at Chinese restaurants because there are plenty of vegetable and seafood options. Taiwan Noodle doesn't really have much in the way of seafood. But! There were some very authentic meat type ingredients and when I see that on a menu I want to try the food. Full Disclosure: I did not make it past the appetizer menu. I mean I ordered a decent sampling of appetizers. But once I bit into the steamed vegetable dumplings I knew I needed a whole, second order of those... Here's the thing, whenever I try a new spot and I see vegetable dumplings I order them. And, you know, they're bland. They're always bland. But I gotta try. The steamed vegetable dumplings at Taiwan Noodle are NOT bland. So. Much. Flavor!! So Delicious. Amazing. I was thrown by the fact that there's just not that much "detail" on the menu. Every section contains a "mixed vegetable" version. But there is no indication of what those vegetables are. So I made the HIGHLY INCORRECT assumption that they were not putting much effort into their vegetable items. I bit into that first vegetable dumpling and it was The Most Delicious Chinese Food I have ever eaten. And I have eaten a lot a lot of Chinese Food. The dumplings have carrots and wood ear mushrooms and glass noodles etc. They are a mouth explosion of flavor and umami. I ate my 4 and ordered another 4 and ate those too... My "first round" also included shrimp rolls, shrimp dumplings and fried white fish (which is featured as a "speciality"). The shrimp rolls look like spring rolls, but are packed with shrimp like you would get in shrimp Dim Sum - which you DO get in the shrimp dumplings. So I had double shrimp!. Again: DELICIOUS. And the fried white fish? I think my order contained 8 of what I'd describe as a fritter?? Thin white fish fillets folded together, breaded and deep fried. So when you bite in (you must WAIT for everything to cool down enough to bite into. Because this food arrives to your table PIPING hot) to each one you are getting a lot of perfectly fried fish. They were served with Kewpie Mayonnaise as a dipping sauce. I had my doubts. But then I dipped. Amazing. So good. Since my first 3 items were just Off The Charts good I decided to order the scallion pancake. I find Chinese scallion pancakes mainly disappointing. Not these. They were PERFECTLY cooked. So the outside is flaky and crisp and the "inside" is moist and flavorful. Kind of like the most perfectly flaky, savory, thin pie crust you've ever had. I don't eat leftovers. I don't even keep them from a restaurant. I kept the scallion pancake and fried white fish I couldn't finish (BECAUSE I ATE 8 VEGETABLE DUMPLINGS!!) and ate them cold directly out of my fridge the next night. And they were still delicious. Amazing, amazing food. Next time I will force myself to push past the appetizers and Dim Sum!! read more
