Clean, organized with items you can't find everywhere. And the service was friendly, as well.

This was a bookmark for a while so I finally did a Steve stop by to check them out. This is a…read moregrocery store/deli serving fresh food. The store has fresh produce and meat counter with refrigerated and dry items. I would order the mixed grill that the menu states 1 lamb kofta, 1 lamb of kebab, 0skewer chicken shish tawook , bed of rice and a side of Jerusalem salad and hummus. I love lamb. I thought it was weird that the mixed grill had lamb kabobs and lamb kofta when these items are no where on the menu and lamb chops were the only lamb on the menu, let's go for it. The plate looked amazing and they got most of the dish correctly with the salad and hummus being cold and the grilled meat and rice being warm. The hummus was delicious but I wish the grilled meat dishes came with some sort of bread to dip in it. The salad was minimal with cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce in a vinaigrette dressing. The rice was cooked past Al dente but not total mush with a nice curry flavor and good. The lamb kabob had a nice beefy/grilled flavor, it was not a lamb kabob that I was served but a beef kabob. The lamb kofta was a moist flavorful beef kofta and not lamb like the menu states. The chicken kabob was moist/flavorful with small grilled flavor and the only correct grilled meat that the menu states. Overall the food was very good that I drove all the way out to Brookfield for a specific grilled lamb dish that ended up being a beef dish was very disappointing, I should have known better when the two lamb items were not even on the menu. I don't know if this was an honest mistake or they thought I wouldn't know the difference because of ethnicity or were they out of lamb that day and who knows. I love lamb and I eat lamb all the time. Had the dish actually have been a lamb dish it would have been a 4 star review.

Great European/Middle Eastern grocery shop!…read more I stopped by looking for ingredients to make a Dubai-Vietnamese chocolate cake, and they had everything I needed--and more. Their selection is impressive, including a wide variety of frozen proteins and Greek specialty items. I also tried a spinach roll from their delicatessen. It was warm, had a great crunch, and the filling was delicious. If you're looking for unique or hard-to-find ingredients, I highly recommend checking this place out!

When I contacted them, they first offered a 25% partial refund and to keep the items. I asked for 60% instead and they agreed. But when they refunded me, they did not include the total cost with the shipping. This was a complete rip off, because it is their fault that they advertised the wrong product and sold it online without checking the ingredients. It's their fault, they should have refunded on the total cost, which included their very expensive $25 shipping. When I emailed them about this, they said that I agreed to the 60% refund on the items, and that this didn't include the shipping cost, but I never agreed to receiving 60% on the items without the expensive shipping charge. This was a trick of theirs. They are the ones that made the false advertisement for the wrong product. It's their fault, they don't get to do things like exclude the expensive shipping from the percentage of the total cost that they are refunding me. I would not order from them again.

Made the trek to Mei Hua Asian market in West Allis. I really like this place, but want to like it…read moremore. It's a bit hidden in the corner of the shopping center at National and Hwy 100 (108th St). It's a small place, with rather narrow aisles. However, as much as I like this place, and as much as I like to shop there, I can't in good conscience give it high marks for the following reasons: 1. It just doesn't feel very clean. Lots of miscellaneous "schmutz" in the freezers, on the counters, on the shelves, on the floors. Pieces and parts of products smooshed here and there, especially in the produce section, and the store shelves and racks (especially the produce area) didn't look clean, nor like they'd been cleaned or wiped down in some time. Gave me kind of a "brother, ewww" feeling. 2. As well "neat and tidy" aren't words I'd use about this shop. As noted above, things are strewn about rather higgledy-piggledy, with products in the wrong places, or in a "this doesn't make sense here" location, or whole shelves of product overturned, or items fallen down the freezer units, or stacked on the floors in the aisles....things seemed to be piled all over the place, even by the pay register. Maybe I came on restocking day? As noted, it's a tiny place, they've really done their best to shoe-horned in their products, but I noticed something rather odd. Rather than tear down the wall to increase their store square footage with what I assume was a space next door that became available, they instead opened a tiny cafe/restaurant. Made me wonder...why? Especially what with the way everything is already so crammed into the store? Is this "normal" for these kinds of places? 3. This one didn't make for easy shopping. It seems as if only about 25% of the store is price-tagged or price marked. And current price tags are old, worn, torn, or don't even reflect the items on the shelves above or around them. The back room was the worst. They would have 4-5 brands of a similar item on a shelf, with only ONE very worn price tag for only ONE of those products. When I got to the checkout, I had to ask what the price was on a couple of items, and then ended up not buying them, something that could have been avoided if they'd been marked. As well, none the hard goods (plates, bowls, utensils, pots & pans, etc) seemed to be price-marked at all from what I could see. Mei Hua, price ALL of your items, please! 4. Lastly - mind you, I didn't have time to look for, nor did I notice this on my most recent visit - but in past visits I had noticed several items that were well past the due dates stamped on product packages or containers. We're talking MANY months out of date. So that was a bit unnerving, but I don't know if this issue has been resolved or not. I know the profit margin for grocery stores is razor thin; perhaps even moreso with these small "mom & pop" types of places that cater to a smaller group of people. Perhaps they opened the cafe in hopes of bringing in more revenue? However, while all of this above will not stop me from shopping at Mei Hua, it will make me much more cautious about the products I do buy there. YMMV of course.
