On April 1, 2025, I visited Take 5 Oil Change in Port Arthur for a routine oil change on my 2022 Toyota RAV4. During the service, the technician removed my engine air filter and failed to properly reattach the intake hose to the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. Shortly after, my vehicle began stalling while I was driving, including at stoplights and intersections, putting me and others at serious risk on the road. I had to take my car to O'Reilly Auto Parts, where the representative immediately identified the disconnected hose and confirmed the MAF sensor had likely been affected. He reattached the hose, cleaned the sensor, and cleared all warning lights so I could safely drive again. This issue was clearly caused by improper service during the oil change. The next day, I returned to the shop to speak to the store manager. His response was underwhelming, a quick apology and an offer for a free future oil change. There was no real ownership of the mistake, no serious acknowledgment of the safety hazard this created, and no mention of how they plan to prevent it from happening to someone else. I was told the issue may have occurred because they had new people on the crew, but that is not an acceptable excuse. If new employees are working on customer vehicles, someone with more experience should be supervising and checking their work. This is not just about training, it's about safety and basic competence. To be clear, I'm not writing this for compensation. I couldn't care less about a free oil change. I won't be returning. What I do care about is accountability. Customers shouldn't have to worry about stalling in traffic because of careless service. Incompetence should never be an accepted part of business, especially when it risks lives. read more

Visited 11/02/25: I have used this business for quite some time, very disappointed in today's visit. They did not have the filter that I needed for my car they said that they were out of stock, that's very poor planning, you don't allow yourself to run out of stock. If you know you need more filters you order them before you run out. To be fair the young man that stopped me on the way in was polite and did apologize for the inconvenience. But the lack of planning like this is not acceptable. I will not be returning to this location read more

Literally the worst experience ever at a take 5 oil change, I watched 6 guys stand around for over 30 minutes, I would have left but they drained my oil, I asked what was going on, and I was told that the guys were new, and one was the manager? the service writer was extremely nice but the guy actually doing the oil was rude and rushed. I made sure to give a tip to both being they were the only ones there and they were busy so maybe that's why but no one wants to get a service done when someone is rude. read more

Was looking for a new place to get my oil changed today and saw great reviews for Take 5 on Google. Decided to check it out and was hands down the best experience I've had. The crew today was not only professional & knowledgeable, but they offered unmatched customer service. They happened to run out of the oil my car takes right before I pulled in so they told me to come back in a couple hours and they'd discount my oil change. Didn't bother me, I know things happen. When I pulled back up later on they recognized my car in line, came to talk to me, and told me what line to get in to be seen the quickest. Got me fixed up and offered me a bottled water before I left. Their communication amongst the crew while servicing vehicles was pretty impressive as well. I was there before another vehicle and they let him go before me. I waited over 45 minutes for service and left because it did not seem like they were going to finish anytime soon. I thought this was 5 minutes. I understand it can go over maybe 20 or 25 minutes be over 45 minutes. read more

These guys in port Arthur are a group of losers and don't know what they're doing. All I know is my car is idling rough and smells like something is burning! Im so upset and I have no one to turn to. I went to Take 5 for an oil change over the weekend. As part of their "inspection" they showed me a meter that showed 6 dots floating and read my coolant was bad/unsafe. Based on the reading of their meter, at their recommendation I agreed to have them change my coolant. After the coolant change was complete I asked them to show me the meter to make sure all the dots were sunk, and it was the exact same as the first reading: 6 floating dots and unsafe/bad. This was a concern to me and I pointed that out. They determined that their meter was faulty and tested it with a new meter. This meter reading showed 4 floating dots and 2 sunk, so it was now in the safe range. I expressed to them my concern that I had them change the coolant based solely on their reading and assessment that my coolant was bad. My only purpose of going there was for an oil change. They claimed that my coolant they removed was bad and needed to be changed anyway and could not find their fault in misleading me into purchasing their product. They tested my old coolant and its results showed 5 floating dots and one sunk. This was still considered safe and in no way would have paid for that service that I did not need. They manager on duty did not take accountability for their mistake. He claimed that I got new coolant so he was not sure how I could be upset by the false reading they gave me. I notified the corporate office and left my phone number for the management but no one has responded or reached out. There were several honest men working who were doing their best at attempting to right the situation, and I appreciated their kindness and understanding; however, the Manager was not able to take any responsibility.
