We would highly recommend working with Tammy for any custom jewelry experience. We worked with Tammy to design an upgraded engagement ring. From start to finish, Tammy was communicative, timely, and very receptive to feedback. She was able to take inspiration photos and create a modified version which exactly fit my vision. She also purchased my prior engagement ring for the gold and was able to preserve the diamonds in that piece for future projects. Lastly, her pricing is very reasonable for the quality of the work. What a fantastic jewelry boutique! Set on a side street just off off bustling Randolf, it has a very exclusive feel. But once inside, the owner is gracious and welcoming. It is so easy to shop in such an intimate setting. They carry so many pieces, that are very suitable for a gift for someone or yourself. The items are all displayed in such a lovely way. It's so easy to get lost in their beauty as you shop. I love the water necklaces and the meaning behind them. I can't wait to return as soon as shops open up again. read more

I never write reviews. Not good ones or bad ones. But this one needs to be written. I do NOT recommend this place due to Tammy's lack of professionalism and her dishonesty. This is what happened. Verbatim. I went there to get a diamond appraised. After discussing & evaluating the diamond, she told me it would cost about $200 for the appraisal. I said fine. Then later on the phone she tells me it's going to be more like $350. I was confused as to why but she said it's the time it takes to appraise the diamond and what needs to be done. She also shared that she only makes $100 on it. I spoke to her a few days later to check on the timeline and status of the appraisal and I kid you not, she tells me the appraisal is going to cost more like $500-$600. I ended up paying her $400 dollars and said that's all I'm paying. She didn't fight me on it. She took my $400 and said ok. I shouldn't have even paid that much. I've talked to several appraisers and they said that figure is insane. Her entire demeanor was like she was on a pedestal. She was rude and very condescending. She also kept suggesting she could make a necklace or bracelet out of it (despite my stating multiple times that I wasn't interested in doing anything with it right now). I am certain she thought I was much younger than I was/am and was trying to take advantage of the situation, thinking she could pull one over on me. This is 100% EXACTLY what happened. And to top it off, it turned out her appraisal was inaccurate. I sent the diamond to the DIA (Diamond International) which is the only place you can get a certified appraisal. Tammy valued it lower than what it actually was & most of the different areas within the diamond were appraised inaccurately too. I am appalled at how blatantly she took advantage of me. And how untrustworthy she was. I can't comment on her collection but she left an impression on me and had the audacity to think she could behave this way and "get away with it". As a business owner in such a delicate industry, one would expect you to be honest, transparent and genuine with ANY and EVERY person that walks through your door. Treat EVERYONE the SAME. DON'T judge. DON'T try to take advantage of someone because they look young, might be inexperienced with fine jewelry and not dressed to the nines. I would have gone back to your store and likely become a patron. And I would have told others about it too. However, I've shared this experience with several friends and family. And you won't find any of us visiting your store. I hope this review encourages you to make a BIG change and treat all who walk through your door the same. read more

Their website says that they convert pierced earrings to clip-on earrings. I called ahead to see if there were any specifics that they could share about what they could or couldn't do. Tammy was not too pleasant on the phone but I was still invited to stop by to see what they could do. I show her my earrings and she proceeds to criticize the metal, try to embarrass me about the quality of my earrings. At no point did I suggest I was bringing in Cartier jewelry. She said that my earrings looked like junk metal. Asked mockingly if someone had gifted me these (in a tone that suggested that if they did they don't think very highly of you). Then she asked how much I paid for them (in a tone that suggested, whatever it is you overpaid). A simple "no, I can't do the work you are inquiring about" would have sufficed. Instead I left upset enough to take my time to write this review. There are a lot of jewelers in Chicago. This one you can skip. read more

From the dramatic to the understated, Tammy has jewelry for you - from her designs, or design it yourself with her guidance, you can't go wrong. From her custom Treasure Rings, to her crazy trilobite cuff links for men, there's always something cool here. If you have loose gems, she can set them for you. So so so glad I came across Takohl. I was struggling to find a place to get my engagement ring resized, and nervous about it being in good hands, and Tammy was wonderful! She was very responsive in my messages to her and my resize was done in less than 45mins. A group of friends of mine and myself were actually invited to one of this jewlers galas..... we werent there for 5 minutes before we were RUDELY told to leave even though we had the email invite with us and showed it the woman running the gala.... She was very rude and all but kicked us out. We are not some rowdy kids either we were very respectful and quiet while observing. We were even looking to purchase some for ourselves. It was SUPPOSED to be a lovely night out for us all. Why were we kicked out? For the simple fact that we can tell the difference between FAKE jewels and REAL ones. The friend who recieved the invite is a jeweler and easily saw that only a select FEW OF THE JEWELS WERE REAL the rest were nothing more but elaborate FAKES. My tip: DON'T BUY FROM THIS JEWELER!!!! All were displayed to buy for hundreds of dollars when they weren't even worth HALF their asking price. If anyone has bought from this jewelry company I suggest you take it to another store and have them confirm its what you paid for because odds are its a FAKE KNOCK OFF. They keep the lights in the cases bright to hurt your eyes so you don't look too long and see their scam. And honestly their prices are ridiculous for the cheap and simplistic designs we saw. Honestly I could get a better looking product for a cheaper price at the mall and it'd be the same or better quality then what we saw there. Seriously though get the jewelry checked by someone outside this company, you probably got ripped off. All in all I wouldn't recommend THIS COMPANY to ANYONE. They are rude over priced and a complete scam! You might as well buy your jewelry from a gum ball machine or dig it out of a Cracker Jacks box then over pay with these con artists. read more

I have been so lucky to have Tammy as my jeweler for over 13 years. She designed my wedding treasure ring which I still love 13 years later. Tammy Kohl and her team at Takohl Design have created some beautiful, custom pieces for me and my family over the years. I love having these one-of-a-kind pieces in my collection---like a large pearl ring set to look like a large egg in a nest or a quartz bracelet that appears as if I'm wearing ice cubes around my wrist. These pieces are sure to be conversation starters when I'm out with friends. And I have loaned many pieces out for special occasions. Don't let all this intimidate you.
