I've been traumatized with an open bite after using a night guard recommended by Dr. Aziz. She gave me the night guard specifications and directed me to the SENTINEL company. My upper and lower teeth don't touch when my mouth is closed. It's causing me to have trouble chewing my food. It's affecting my speech; I can't make certain sounds. My neck and spine are also messed up due to misalignment with my jaw bone. Three orthodontics I visited told me: * I was not supposed to wear a night guard while one of my wisdom teeth was not present * Dr. Aziz neglected to check the nightguard. There was an issue with it * Correcting my bite requires me to pay up to $10,000 while I'm not working * As part of my treatment plan, three of my wisdom teeth have been removed now * If Invisalign doesn't correct my bite, I might have a jaw surgery I had Dr. Aziz as my dentist for 10 years. After I asked Dr. Aziz to remeasure the gap between my teeth, she didn't respond to my email. Upon reaching out to her months later, she explained that she only uses that email when she anticipates an email from someone. She did not even apologize for causing me significant hardship and pain and suffering. Please make sure that you have a dentist who truly cares about your well-being. read more

Does your dentist call you at home in the evening to check up on you after a root planing? Mine does. A visit to Dr. Aziz makes seeing the dentist nearly enjoyable. Her kind manner and genuine interest in her patient's lives beyond their flossing regimens make her an excellent dentist. I figure if you're going to let someone poke around in your mouth you should, at the very least, like them. And I like Dr. Aziz. She's the sort of person you'd want to chat with over tea. It's too bad that most of my time spent talking to her is when my mouth is crowded with instruments. Dr. Aziz is also particularly perceptive to anxiety and last time offered me nitrous oxide during my visit. It was highly effective in calming me (and my overactive gag reflex) down. Had my previous dentists used it on me, I might be less dentophobic! I began seeing Dr. Aziz while working in Berkeley and continue to even though most of my life is now concentrated in the West Bay. I've been visiting Dr. Aziz for years. She's my favorite dentist - kind, smart, and talented. If this sounds like a fan girl letter, it is. Her dental office treats patients of all ages- from children to particular 20 something's like me. When I was first looking for dental offices in the East Bay, I found her on Yelp. I totally hit the gold mind (or filling, as it were). If you are using Yelp to search for your new dentist, look no further. I have not met a dentist as compassionate and skilled as Dr. Aziz. I have only had one other dentist as an adult. My previous dentist was fantastic so it was a tall order to find a new dentist. I have happily found my dentist for the next 20 years! Dr. Aziz is knowledgeable, skillful, and very friendly. I highly recommend her. Her hygienist Tami is also very good. My teeth really feel good (gingivitis-free) after her cleaning. As an added benefit, Tami is big A's fan (as am I) and can do a 30 minute monologue on strengths and weaknesses of the current team while cleaning your teeth. It's truly a better analysis than anything on sports radio and I enjoy her perspectives. And finally, the staff is pleasant and they handle the insurance billing and co-pays seamlessly and error-free. What more can you ask from a dental practice? Big thumbs up! read more

I joined Yelp specifically so that I could write a positive review of Dr. Aziz. I hate going to the dentist, but I had to recently, but didn't have a dentist. I was referred to Dr. Aziz and Boy Howdy am I happy I was. She was tenacious in getting to the bottom of my painful tooth, which was hard to diagnose. She has a a great laugh and demeanor. I thought that all dentists were stoic, but she's alive and involved and caring. 2 thumbs up! UPDATE AS OF OCTOBER 2011: To the reviewer that found her receptionist rude. I called the office of Tala Aziz and the receptionist was so RUDE She gave me attitude and when I asked her if there was a different time I could schedule she said, " we're extremely busy ok? i told you what i told you!" i was extremely shocked and angry that she was so impolite! I take dentists very seriously. I've had a few bad experiences. So I interviewed 4 different dentists in Berkeley before deciding on Dr. Aziz. She has been everything I hoped for and more - extremely willing to explain things slowly so I can understand them, very gentle manner and actually cares about whether I'm in pain or not. I think she is the most empathetic dentist I've ever had and she has the skills in terms of technology and craft that you need in a dentist too. I don't know a great car repair person, but I do know a GREAT dentist now. Try her out and I guarantee you will be glad you did. read more

Dr. Aziz is awesome! I am extremely dentist-phobic (after a few less than pleasant experiences) to the point where I will pass out in the chair before the drill ever gets turned on. Dr. Aziz was really understanding, prescribed a light sedative, offered nitrous, and even brought me into the room early so I could sit quietly and calm down. Then she brought in a cd player and headphones and a book of cds to choose from so that I wouldn't have to hear the tools so loudly. Before i knew it, she was finished! (4 extractions & 3 root canals) Before the procedure, she sat with me and tooth-by-tooth talked through everything that should be fixed and all of my options. I had (and still have) an extensive amount of work that needed to be done. Not once did I ever feel rushed or feel that she had anything but my best interests at heart. For the first time in my life I felt like I was with someone I could completely trust with my dental health. I could go on forever, but the bottom line is this: Dr. Aziz is great. The staff in her clinic are super friendly. Go see her. read more

Truly excellent dentist. I particularly like seeing the ways she interacts with her staff, and the way they interact with each other. There is deep experience on the team, and they support and train each other. It seems like a wonderful working environment where everyone is deeply committed to quality work. Dr. Aziz is the best! I wish I could have met her sooner, instead of hopping around to different dentists in the Bay Area. Some of these people are total quacks who just want your money -- not Dr. Aziz! I haven't had dental coverage since 2013, and only started seeing dentists early this year. UPDATED 5.3.14: The Doctor herself is absolutely the kind of person you want looking after you. Smart, caring, and talented. She takes the time to explain things if you show interest. After my FIRST cleaning, which she did herself on a weekday, I felt great. After my SECOND cleaning, which was done on a Saturday by her assistant, I experienced quite a bit of soreness and some swelling. I don't know what the deal was. I had my THIRD cleaning scheduled again for a Saturday, she did the cleaning, and her assistant did the polishing. No pain. :)) NOTE: I find that to get referrals from this office, they don't have a set list of names to give out for allied professionals (specialists in surgery, perio, endo). Front desk can't or won't help. Talk to the doctor herself, and you'll get what you need. Very happy here. :)) read more

Dr. Aziz is great! I've been seeing the same since I was about six but since I moved to Berkeley I had to find a new one, and I did thanks to her other Yelp reviews. Though not generally my favorite thing to get done, ex-rays were done by a very nice assistant and then Dr. Aziz went through them very thoroughly. My teeth felt super clean after the cleaning, and Dr. Aziz even convinced me to floss more often than I have been (and I've actually followed through). Unfortunately UCB's dental coverage with SHIP has changed, and I only found out about 40 min before my schedule appointment, and turns out Dr. Aziz is no longer in the network :( The receptionist I spoke with was very sweet and understanding and explained everything to me.. so that hopefully I can get things worked out and reschedule even if I have to pay a little extra. read more

I used to go to Ellen M. Pacleb in San Pablo and she was great. But I moved out of my old place and my friend recommended Tala Aziz to me. I knew one of me teeth needed root canal and when I when there, they took X-ray and she said it needs root canal but I am gonna do temporary filling and when you come back in a couple of days I will do root canal. First of all she does not communicated to me why I needed temporarily filling and second of all she was supper busy took her so long to see me and left quickly without answer my questions. So I talked to assistance and asked why I needed the temporary filling and she said to avoid the pain but I don't have pain at the time and didn't want to do filling because my university insurance has a gap so I didn't want to run out of it. Anyways, I didn't do the filling and before I left, I asked her are you sure you can do the root canal here because I have done root canal before and I was always referred to specialist since they have all the equipment for that and she said yeah I can do it for sure. I can back for root canal and again she was busy and took her so long to see me and even while she was working on my teeth, other people came and distracted her so she left the room a couple of times to help them even though she was working on my teeth. I was in her office for 3 hours and finally she gave up and said I cannot finish this root canal and you need to go to a specialist to finish it for you. I was supper mad at the point. Because not only she waisted 3 hours of my time, but I had to leave her office with a lot more pain and had to waited two weeks to see the specialist. Also, had to pay two fees, one for her junk work($400) and full fee for root canal ($900) to see specialist. Anyways it was such a waist of time and money and I would not recommend her to anyone. She does not have the equipment crews and expertise to do the root canal so don't waist your money and time; instead just go straight to root canal specialist if your teeth needs root canal. So I decided to commute a bit extra and see Dr. Pacleb; she is so patient, caring, and takes the time to explain everything at your level to make sure you are happy and satisfied with her work. I also love the rest of team there; they are so friendly and nice. read more

I hadn't been to a dentist in 10 years. Long story short, I had a bad tooth/gum ache that consumed my life for a week (and apparently made me very dramatic). Made an appointment with Dr Aziz after looking at the stellar reviews of her practice on yelp. She was warm and took the time to explain every procedure and every x ray to me - and taught me the right way to floss - and cleaned my teeth. Most importantly, helped considerably reduce my tooth and gum ache in two hours. I think I found my dentist for life. I had no issues setting up an appointment - very friendly staff and it helped that my insurance was accepted here. read more

The one star is specifically for the receptionist service at the office. The receptionists are extremely rude and not attentive towards customers. They are very cold towards answering questions about insurance and billing and are snide when you ask them to check if they are in the network, as if they are doing you a favor. This kind of bad attitude is not suitable for any kind of customer-facing role. Dr Aziz needs to get a friendly staff that reflects her quality work. read more

Dr. Aziz is absolutely amazing! Most people are afraid to go to the dentist, but going to her office is definitely worthwhile. She is the sweetest person ever and makes sure the patient receives the best treatment and cleaning. I shadow her on a weekly basis and I never hear complaints, but instead I see each patient leaving with a beautiful smile on his or her face. Dr. Aziz is extremely meticulous and careful even on simple procedures such as deep cleaning, it is always safe to assume that all the tartar is removed. Furthermore, Dr. Aziz discusses options with her patients and never forces a more expensive option for personal gain. Her recommendations usually considers the patient's insurance and financial budget. All in all, Dr. Aziz is one of the most attentive and caring dentist I have ever met. read more

Excellent experience with Dr. Aziz. She really does call you at home to check up on you after even minor surgeries. For a person with poor luck in the dental department, she's gold; I had two wisdom teeth extractions, two supernumerary teeth extractions, and a couple fillings done with Dr. Aziz. She was sensitive to all my concerns and made it as painless as possible. I agree with everything the other two reviewers, Miriam and Jason, have said -- both about her professional expertise as well as about her being a great person to chat with. I had been going to Dr Tala Aziz's office for two years after a recommendation from a friend. My first three visits were great. [no unnecessary bills, friendly staff, etc.] But issues started appearing during and since my most recent visit. She finished the cleaning after only 10 minutes which felt way too short, and the front office seemed much more disorganized than it had in the past. My friend has also had uncomfortable recent experiences with her. Unfortunately we are going to start going elsewhere for our dental care. read more

Came here with a toothache in desperation on a Saturday morning after calling in. I was not a patient. I was greeted and treated well by doctor and her staff. They were accommodating and sympathetic as soon as I called. I didn't have dental insurance that they accept but I was desperate to be checked out. Dr Aziz has been my Dentist for more than 15 years. Her practice is thoughtful, kind, very thorough and personable. She has a good sense of community specialists if needed. Simply amazing! Dr. Aziz is very thorough and attentive to her patients. My first appointment, she did my cleaning and took X-rays, and I was very impressed because she took the time at the end of the appointment to explain, in detail, what she saw on my X-rays. Just recently, she also took the time to respond to an emergency call I placed over the weekend about a temporary veneer that had fallen off. Instead of receiving a call back from just any on-call staff, I received a call back from her within 10 minutes of placing my call! I have always been extremely happy with my service and would definitely recommend Dr. Aziz! Just a warning though, appointments can run a bit long. She is very thorough, which sometimes causes appointments to last longer than expected. Just go into your appointment knowing that it could take a 1/2 hour or so longer and you'll be fine. And despite not having an appointment all of the staff were friendly and helpful and managed to squeeze me in. Dr. Aziz is the best! 10 years ago I found myself in a hustle to find a dentist while my regular dentist was on vacation. I chose Dr. Aziz's name randomly from my insurance list of preferred providers, and wow, what a wonderful stroke of luck! I was immediately hooked by her compassionate, warm, friendly approach and her depth of knowledge and skill. I remember thinking how much more smoothly the medical system would run if all clinicians were like Dr. Aziz. I switched to her practice immediately following that first visit. Over the past 10 years, she's done an enormous amount of work with me, adding crowns to the majority of my teeth. Rebuilding a whole mouth takes a particular expertise and artistry that most general dentists don't have, but Dr. Aziz was as up to the task as any oral surgeon. Throughout that whole process, which lasted a few years, Dr. Aziz always made certain that my needs and concerns were heard and met to the greatest extent possible. I've also had the opportunity to get to know Dr. Aziz's staff, and have found everyone to be friendly and helpful. Recently, Dr. Aziz has worked with me to get a new night guard. I've been a bit of a finicky customer with very particular ideas about the kind of night guard I wanted. Dr. Aziz has entertained my many questions, responding promptly and with patience. If I ever move out of the Bay Area, I'll probably end up scheduling my trips back around my dental needs so that I can continue having Dr. Aziz as my dentist :) read more
