We were originally going to go straight to Healy but friends convinced me that we needed to stay one night in Talkeetna. And if was a great idea because it's a cute town with a fair amount of restaurants, things to do and shops. So at the last minute I searched high and low and finally found that this place had a room available. And I'm so glad that I booked it! I was a little nervous because we'd have to share a bathroom and I wasn't sure how clean those would be and there weren't many reviews for this place. Well the lodge was awesome. It is kind of set up like a hostel/college dorm situation. There is a shared kitchen on the first floor and then a bunch of rooms that are divided between the first and second floors. The rooms range from simple rooms with just one or two beds where you have to share bathrooms to bigger rooms that had its own private bathroom. We opted to do that shared bathroom thing and it worked out well. The other guests were mindful and pretty quiet the night that we stayed. One thing to be cautious about is that the walls are pretty thin so if you do have loud or inconsiderate folks on the same floor then you may feel disturbed. The bathrooms were clean and comfortable and I was happy to see that. In fact the whole house was really clean and part of this is because you are to remove your shoes when you enter into the building. There is a nice mudroom when you walk in where you can leave your shoes and then wear slippers or socks throughout the rest of the house, this just kept everything really clean and felt really cozy. The rooms were plain and simple, just the bed, nightstand, armoire, and no TV. but that was OK because we just wanted something clean and comfortable for the one night that we were there. You're in Talkeetna to enjoy the outdoors so there's really no reason to spend a lot of time in the room anyways. The owner of the lodge is a very sweet accommodating woman and she leaves every day at 9 PM. If you arrive after that time she will leave the key with your name on the table and this worked out really well for us. We really enjoyed our stay here!

The lodge and cabins…read moreare about 10 minutes away from downtown and provides a relaxing and peaceful retreat away from all of the hustle and bustle of life. The room was spacious, very clean, and came with lots of amenities. They had a table and chairs in the room that had an amazing view. They also had a fridge, a coffee machine in the room, creamer, a microwave (I believe), and a shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispenser in the shower. I also really like that they had a built in shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispenser rather that the sample bottles that you throw away and end up in a landfill. We unfortunately came during a heat wave about a week ago so we didn't use the hot tub or sauna, although I am sure that those staying here will enjoy them since the climate is normally much cooler and perfect for these types of things. The deck is amazing and has great views, along with lots of tables and chairs so that you can relax and take in the view! Tom and the staff were very hospitable and I highly recommend staying here. The breakfast was delicious. They had pancakes with birch syrup, bacon, and scrambled eggs. They made sure to ask if we had any allergies or dietary restrictions the night before and were very accommodating throughout our entire stay here.

While my stay started off well, it quickly deteriorated. I was under the impression that we were…read morebooking a hotel-like room; however, the owner had the freedom to enter my room while I was in bed and spoke to me in a condescending manner. This behavior is entirely unacceptable. If there are specific rules, they should be clearly posted or communicated to guests in advance. If children are not welcome, this should be explicitly stated in the advertisement. Under no circumstances should anyone walk into a guest's room uninvited, especially while they are in their pajamas, and criticize their parenting. My son was not being loud while warming up his food, even though it was late. Considering it's summer break and the sun stays up longer, it's unreasonable to expect children to follow a strict bedtime. I wish you all the best with your business, but I cannot recommend this place to anyone, life is too short to deal with this kind of non-sense. Avoid ruining your vacation with such an experience.

They have several different cabins and cottages. Each are made different and availability of…read moreamenities are different as well. Some has a shower, or just bath tub, or nothing at all. We stayed at a garden cabin with no hot water, no shower, no toilet within. Outhouse is behind the cottage. We were warned no running water a week before arrival but running water became available by the time we arrived. A cottage has a sink, microwave oven, hot water kettle and coffee machine. A gas fireplace kept us warm at night. We selected based on walking distance from downtown where great restaurants and shops are available. Innkeeper lives nearby and we saw him always working on something. He said he is working to get hot water to this particular cottage and eventually install a shower and a toilet. He was a very hard working and nice person. He came us to pick us up from a bus stop and offered us to take to the train station (both are within a walking distance). If not taking a shower for a few days do not bother you, this is a great little place with privacy and quietness. I even spotted moose twice from a safe distance! I felt like it was a true Alaskan experience for studying a cottage like this.

Trisha and Rocket are super friendly and were actively engaged with us from the beginning of our reservation experience, and sent a series of recommendations for restaurants, activities, and attractions that would be open during a time of year that sees only a small amount of visitors.. but still has a fun and active pulse from all the amazing locals. She has bikes you can use, A refrig and kitchen for any guest to use if needed. She is what I had in mind when I think about a female in AK. She had just finished up some smoked salmon and she was kind enough to share some with us. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer person. There are 3 beds to each room. Its kind of like the story of the 3 bears, if one mattress is to hard try another bed. She does have a couple small dogs that stay with her, and yes there is a dog smell in the lower gathering area. However it is not overly strong or obtrusive. The place was clean through out! Thank you Paula, when we come back we will be planning to stay with you againe.
