From the start this venue was amazing! Melissa, the coordinator, did a great job. She listened, made suggestions and was professional. She put us at ease with the feeling that everything was going to work out. Which it did!! The rest of the staff was amazing too. All of the food was good, and they went out of their way to accommodate the people with food allergies. The bartenders did a great job of rolling with the supply of alcohol that they had when things ran out. We ended up renting out the inn for the wedding night. I regret not renting it out for the night before also. However, a lot of the wedding party stayed there anyways. HIGHLY recommend doing that! It's beautiful! It makes the day go so smoothly because everyone is in one place! There's lots of things to do in the upstairs portion to fill the time. Just makes everything easier! We visited Tall Oaks and stayed in the Carriage House recently for a wedding of a friend. The property and all of its buildings was beautifully maintained. You can tell the team here truly cares about the appearance the upkeep. Unfortunately, during our stay, the AC was broken in the bedrooms. It was an unseasonably hot day and each of the bedrooms was 80+ degrees. The common areas including the location for the ceremony and dinner were properly climate controlled, but sleeping was difficult. Luckily, the outside temperature cooled down enough overnight for us to leave our sliding glass door open for a breeze. read more

Tall Oaks Event Complex - Venues & Event Spaces Near Me - Kirtland, Ohio

***Please read if you're considering Tall Oaks Kirtland for your event*** Tall Oaks is a beautiful venue. We were super excited for the planning process but that excitement quickly faded with lots of frustration. -Food pricing from the signing of the contract to closer to the wedding nearly quadrupled. As we were aware of a potential food increase, this increase was substantial. -Communication is very difficult and when you finally get a response it's brief and rude. - Setup time can begin at 1:00pm the day of your event and all teardown must begin by your end time. If you have an extensive setup (as we did) you WILL GET CHARGED $100.00 PER HOUR prior to the 1:00pm venue setup time. Our florals were so extensive that we had no choice to pay an ADDITIONAL $500.00 to get in early. On top of that, the venue knew the florist was doing a major ceiling installation and they still had all the ceremony chairs in place which we had to move to do the ceiling work. -Dietary restrictions were completely ignored during dinner service.... Per the venues request hours were spent on a spreadsheet AND place cards to include all meal choices AND allergies. Three of our gluten free guests were served gluten and the first response from the onsite banquet coordinator was "take the croutons off"..... that is cross-contamination and when explained to her, her solution was to tell the guests "don't eat your salad" SO UNPROFESSIONAL AND DANGEROUS! No apologies to guests offered. -We upgraded the dessert table to their elevated dessert display package (additional cost) and was told all of our desserts brought in from the bakery would be displayed beautifully on the venues platters....they were not and they were put on the plastic platters they came in. -As mentioned previously, the florals were extensive and exquisite. One of the focal points was a floral chuppah at the top of the staircase. The family wanted photos in front of this massive gorgeous display following the ceremony but the venue wouldn't allow it, reason being they had to flip the space for dinner. The photos on the staircase would have had ZERO interference with that. -We were able to bring in all our alchohol and were told they would provide the ice and mixers. They did not provide the ice and bags of ice needed to be purchased just several hours prior to guest arrival. They also WOULD NOT PROVIDE PITCHERS OF WATER outside at cocktail hour and throughout the night, so cases of bottled water had to be purchased as well!!! -We reserved the Inn onsite as well for the night of the wedding for the entire wedding party to sleep. Late night food was being thrown into to go boxes by the onsite coordinator well before the station should have closed and WHILE guests were still eating it. When asked why, she had said it was for the wedding party at the Inn which is what we agreed to early on in the planning process BUT she did it way too early. -Our wedding was CONTRACTED to end at midnight. By 11:15pm all the centerpieces, candles, and chairs were removed from all the guest tables and stacked on carts in the lobby foyer that guests would use to exit. The party was still going strong and when you teardownwn early guests think its the end of the celebration. So much thought and money went into this wedding and perhaps the biggest disappointment is that all of our concerns were sent in an email to the owner of Tall Oaks, and the VP who is his daughter and we still haven't received a response. Don't let the beauty of this venue and all the promises in your early stages of planning fool you. My intent is to caution any couple out there considering this venue. On a positive note, we can't recommend Willows and Sage enough. The flowers were INCREDIBLE and the staff was amazing to work with. They maintained their professionalism despite all of the setup obstacles. read more

We recently had our daughter's wedding and reception at Tall Oaks. The venue itself is a beautiful place for a wedding. However, the entrance is hard to see from the road and GPS takes you through a Dollar General parking lot. To our knowledge, Tall Oaks is the most expensive local venue. That's OK but naturally raises expectations. At the price, you should expect a positive experience from day one. One big frustration was when they raised food prices by 14% and added a new $1K planning fee weeks AFTER we signed the contract. We were able to reject the new fee because the contract did not allow it, but other clients likely paid it--not a good way to do business. It's also worth noting that they do not provide full event planning. They ask questions / make suggestions, but most planning / vendor coordination is performed by the client. The most negative experience was their poor and, at times, unpleasant communication. We would have to repeatedly ask them to address the same points in the planning process. We would ask questions and then not hear back for days, weeks, or at all. They would provide options we would use to make event decisions only to have them retract the options. Example--they gave us several floor plans. After we spent hours on seating plans, they told us the plan they provided could not be executed. We submitted a second plan--same answer! Finally, they said there was only one possible plan and we needed to use that one. Oddly, they never offered an explanation or apology, and were, if anything, unpleasant about it. Related, their current GM made us feel like we were walking on eggshells and would send responses that were curt, impatient, and even arguably rude. It was unsettling as we were heading into one of the biggest events of our lives. Their written policies were inconsistent. We had an elderly guest who would not be able to use the stairs to the 2nd floor for cocktails. Tall Oaks had provided their "Handicap Accessible" description stating they had elevator access to the 2nd floor. However, prior to the event, we were told that guests were not allowed on the elevator! Another example was their alcohol policy. One document states that all alcohol is BYOB (and this is actually how it works). But the policy they require you to sign dictates "no BYOB" because it is illegal in OH. These are just examples of inconsistencies which raise doubts in your mind. There was also a lot of turnover. We went through 3 GMs and several coordinators in 9 months. This likely contributed to the poor communication. The next to last coordinator was pleasant but disappeared with 3 weeks to go. We asked several times what happened but never received an answer, so I assume she also left. All this said, the wedding was a success. The place looked great and everything ran on time. The food was very good (other than an unexpected, odd sauce on the chicken), and it was served efficiently and accurately. The servers were friendly and seemed to genuinely care about the event. We did have two significant issues on the big day. First, they did not execute the floor plan correctly. They seated the groom's family with the bride's guests and vice versa. Second, they approached the bridal party almost immediately after the ceremony asking that they empty the dressing rooms. This was not agreed ahead of time and should have happened later. But overall, we were pleasantly surprised with how well the day went. We had entered the day with concern based on the poor and unpleasant communication leading up to the event. In summary, the wedding itself went well and we appreciate that it was a fun event, but working with the Tall Oaks staff leading up to the wedding was stressful and unpleasant, and we often did not feel respected or valued as a client. There were points where consideration was given to trying to move the wedding elsewhere, but it is very difficult to move a wedding late in the process because the other desirable venues are taken. This left us with times of regret and concern--and we should not have had to feel that way. To the Tall Oaks team: we would strongly recommend that you take this feedback to heart (rather than being defensive) and make efforts to improve your communication throughout the process. It appeared to us that your team is overworked and gets very little time off, and it shows in the lack of responsiveness to your clients. Remember that clients are planning one of the most important events in their lives and want to feel supported and confident that "you've got this". It would also help if you were staffed at a level that allowed your team time to better prepare for and execute planning sessions. This would result in more positive interactions and less mistakes in the planning process. You have a beautiful facility and a lot of frontline staff with great service orientation--it's worth the effort to improve your planning communication and relationships with your clients. read more
