This company offers excellent service by collecting dogs from an overpopulated region with high kill rate shelters and bringing them to other parts of the country where dog adoptions are in demand. They do an excellent job vetting each dog before making them available for adoption, and they have a fantastic return policy in the rare case that the dog doesn't work out with its adopted furever home. I had the opportunity to meet some of the dedicated volunteers who assist in the overall process of helping the dogs that come to our area for adoption. I loved their compassion and commitment to them. they were very responsive to my questions/inquiries about Cooper and any of his medical needs/situations. I highly recommend TTR and the pups they bring to us. They are not in this for the money at all. It's all about the dogs, and their commitment and efforts are unmatched. Also, I found their adoption rates to be very reasonable for what you get in return. I highly recommend TTR as a quality source for adopting a rescue companion. I found my little dog Copper online, but he was in Texas. I was excited when I found out he had come north to the Baltimore area for an adoption event at the Pet Smart in Abingdon, hoping to find a furever home. I found the Facebook page for TTR ( https://www.facebook.com/talltailsrescue ) and saw the live feeds for the 3rd Saturday/Sunday adoption event at Pet Smart. It was there I got to see Cooper beyond his internet picture. He was very yappy and had a sign on his cage that read, "CAUTION: do not reach your finger into the cage. I'm a bit timid." The live video posted at the end of the adoption day was calling for Foster parents for the 3 dogs that had not been adopted. Needless to say, of the many small dogs they brought up for the adoption day, Cooper was the only one that did not get picked. Gee, imagine that! But, something in his eyes and his behavior suggested he was really innocent. So, I made arrangements to meet him and long story shorter, I learned that he had been through a lot of hardship as a puppy at just a year old, and I realized his yappness was actually him crying out for help. He has turned out to be a very sweet and loving companion. A total under-the-covers boy who wants to stay near me. Yet, at 15lbs, he has enough moxie to handle my 80lb female Staffy, Pitbull, Lab mix, Luna. Another rescue, that is Cooper's running mate. Cooper is still a bit yappy a times but, he's learning to change that behavior very quickly. He's an incredibly smart dog. We just adopted our first puppy from Tall Tails. Having never been dog owners, we can honestly say that we left there feeling confident and well taken care of. Kay and her team were exhausted from the long drive from Texas to Maryland, but that didn't stop them from diligently working to get every dog matched up with a great new family. I'd give 0 stars purely based on their credibility and would only ever consider adopting from them again to save a dog FROM them. At pick up, Kay told me that she's stinky because of the transport (mkay, smells through a face mask, tons of dingleberries, and long ass nails from a couple-days drive) (she was in their "care" for at least a month). I was only told then, that she had vision loss from 'scratches' during a dog fight and that she had visited a vet who said there's nothing to do... Turns out not only was she completely blind in that eye, it had happened long ago, AND she had cataracts in her other eye (also an ear infection). I realized at the vet that I didn't have the copy of the adoption agreement with my files and have yet to get it since their 'we'll work on that ASAP' response almost two weeks ago. Mind you, when I didn't respond to their adoption invoice within a couple of days, I got some pettiness about my slowness to respond. Texting was no better - I asked for an updated pic of her (only got a 'she looks the same' response) and was open about being a first-time pet owner and what type of environment I live in (definitely not helpful for a blind pet), but the info in the application obviously doesn't matter to them. Tall Tails Rescue is run by a fabulous group of people who are serious about getting their pets adopted. This is not an animal shelter - there is no one location with boarded animals. Tail Tails has several people working as foster parents. They each take in homeless pets and keep them as their own until they're adopted out!! I understand that there are way too many stray cats and dogs out there, and so I have no problem with no-kill shelters... but I really appreciate Tall Tails' great effort to keep animals in a home and out of cages! I recently adopted two adorable (and sometimes really annoying because they're so active) kittens from Tall Tails. They typically charge $85 for kittens/cats and $125 for puppies/dogs, but I received a discount for adopting 2 little critters. Also, if you adopt an animal who is 5 or older, you only have to pay $60. These are all INCREDIBLE deals because all of their adoptees are "fully vetted." They get a health exam and are treated if necessary. PLUS, all animals are spayed or neutered, wormed, and vaccinated! ( If you read their website it'll tell you all of this!) After I got my kittens, I had a few questions every now and then. I was able to text and call their foster mother who always promptly answered me with great advice and genuine interest! These foster parents love their animals and want them to find good homes.They often show their pets at adoption fairs around DFW. I would not recommend adopting from this place. We adopted a kitten who passed a few days later from feline parvo. The shot records were falsified, the vet who's name is indicated on the shot records is a vet that is retired who is all the way in Midland Texas. The address on the shot records is a home address and the phone number is disconnected. The shot records showed that the kitten received all shots in Midland, TX then the next morning was at the Petsmart in Mansfield TX to be adopted. Seems like a lot of driving when there are hundreds of vets in the DFW area. So they drove all the way to Midland to a retired vet to get kittens vaccinated and then have them ready for adoption the next morning??????? I tired everything I could to save the kitten. I spent thousands of dollars at the ER and local vet. The kitten was getting a little better and had a bowel movement at our local vet. This organization told my daughter they would help us so they took the kitten to "their vet" the kitten was dead the next morning. We were told we would get a refund, our pet carrier back, and assistance for the ER visits. Never happened, in fact they stopped responding to my daughter's messages. read more

We adopted a sweet little cat named Ash from his foster with Tall Tails Rescue, at the Petco off Denton Highway in Watauga Texas. Jan. 29, 2016 We payed 85 dollars for a very sick cat. There is no way he was this sick and the foster not know. He has constant anal leakage. His poop will not solidify. He has mucus in his stool. He has been to the vet once, and he will have to go back, probably many times. We love the little guy, and my daughter is very attatched to him. While we won't put him down or get rid of him. If another person is basically, deceived into adopting an animal, they just might not care enough to help it. The lady I adopted him from said Tall Tails will also help with cost if he needs more vet care, so I contacted them through Facebook. They don't know anyone who can help. I saw a very cute dog on a rescue page and inquired about him. I asked them a couple questions about him, one of them being if he had separation anxiety. They never answered that, but did answer the other ones I had. I should have asked about it again, but decided to go ahead with putting a payment down for him. I found out when I brought him home he has extremely bad separation anxiety. The day I went to pick him up was very chaotic. I called them several times the day off to find out more details besides just what time and where I was picking him up. They didn't answer until I was heading down to pick him up. When I got there, whoever was in charge was extremely rude. I asked her if there was anything about my dog I should know or if they happened to know a little about his history. She said "well, he's a dog...". Pretty rude if you ask me. On the website it said my dog is pretty good with people, that was a load of crap. He only likes me, no one else. I understand rescues have backgrounds they don't know fully about but this was just false advertisement. When I picked him up, they gave me a bag of pills with no labels and poor instructions, I had to find out from my vet what I was supposed to do. I even met someone at the local dog park who had the same interaction, I have really bonded with my dog and am happy I have him, I do believe everything happens for a reason. If I had met the dog beforehand I would not have adopted him; again I am happy I have him and will never send him away. I am all about rescuing dogs, but I would never use this rescue again due to the lack of communication, the rude interaction, and false advertisement. read more

We adopted our puppy (Leah) from this rescue on July 20th who passed from distemper (a deadly disease) on September 13th. My 15 month old daughter picked her at Petsmart in Abingdon, MD and we all fell in love with her immediately. However, the 1st day we went home we knew something was not right. She wouldn't eat and I contacted the rescue (Kay) with my concerns the next morning. She stated she had no issues eating with her, so we tried everything for her to eat and still nothing. We brought her to a vet the 2nd day we had her and in a couple days she was tested positive with a parasite along with kennel cough. Additionally her paperwork said she was over 9 lbs, but she actually weighed 6 lbs., showing she obviously was sick when we received her and was losing weight. We only had her for 6 days. 2 weeks of having her she had the start of harden paw pads (another early symptom of distemper). I contacted the rescue again concerned that we were given a sick puppy and the rescue provided us $250 to pay towards our vet bills. I contacted Kay several times after that and no response was given. I knew we were on our own. After waiting for her to recover from her diagnosed sicknesses, her health started to plummet further. She was diagnosed with pneumonia on August 30th and started to have tremors quickly after. Her quality of life drastically declined since the disease progressed to the neurological stage. I contacted Kay right away because this was not right and knew something has to be done. We received 2nd opinion on her symptoms and was told that their was a strong possibility she had distemper and she was brought to the ER quickly. She tested positive for distemper several days later and died in our arms on September 13th. It is has been over a month and this rescue has yet to resolve this matter. I was told by Kay today that they are checking in on all dogs that were in contact with Leah and that is the reason for the delayed response. However, she stated in an email to me on Oct. 3rd that was already done and all other dogs were healthy. It is evident that there is a contradiction here. We received a puppy with a disease that could not be cured. We had Leah for less then 2 months and my family fought every step of the way for her to have a fighting chance to survive this terrible disease. Every symptom she had from the day we adopted her is all indicators of distemper, however the rescue will not do the right thing and compensate us. I know nothing can fix the emotional distress of losing Leah, but they should be liable when adopting out sick puppies. The avoidance I have received shows a lack of compassionate for the hardship my family had to go thru and I will not stop until justice is received. I hope this post will help others. read more
