I encourage anyone considering snowmobile rental in the Black Hills SD area to avoid "Black Hills…read moresnowmobile rental" at all cost. Myself and 9 family members booked a trip in the summer of 2014 with "Jake" . Before departing for our trip in February 2015 we called "Jake " to make sure there would be enough snow and that the brand new sleds he promised would be ready. Jake assured us that there was a four foot snow base and the sleds were all ready to go. Upon arrival at the rental location we found several old, worn out and poorly maintained snowmobiles. There was also no snow base with the occasional inch or less of packed snow/ice between the rocks and dirt... We expressed our concerns to Jake about the trail conditions and were assured that the trails would get better " just over the hill" . We mentioned to Jake that maybe canceling the rental would be a good idea, but his response was " I have no money but I can give hugs all day".... At this we figured we might as well see what was " over the hill" as Jake was paid months ahead and was keeping the money. We went out to the lot to find the " brand new sleds " Jake had promised us. There where no new sleds, all had been patched together with zippy ties and duct tape. Most where 10 years old or more, 3 were only 5 years old. All had various degrees of damage. Many did not start and all had some sort of issue that took hours to patch together. Mine was the best of the lot with no working reverse, minimal if any braking, zippy tied front plastic, bent control arms and a slipping drive belt. Some of the others needed pull started and two of the ones we did leave the rental shop with broke down in less than 25 miles.. Jake had us park the sleds at a different location than where we rented them, then used our truck to shuttle the drivers of the sleds. The next day when we drove the approximate 30 miles to get the sleds , we were met by a disgruntled man instructing us to get all of these sleds off his property and referred to Jake as "a crook". The third sled to break down lost a control arm and its drive track in less than 90 miles which stranded that rider. Jake is presently trying to extort money from several renters for fraudulent reasons. Jake was very insistent that we all have insurance on the sleds and asked that we park them along side the road with the keys in them. Not sure if this is standard practice but I found it suspicious . At the very kindest I could say Jake, (aka Michael J Rohr), is a fraudulent "businessman" but personally feel he is nothing more than a common criminal. Avoid renting here at all cost.

This cabin is pet friendly and has two bedrooms, two baths and a loft with two queen beds. There is…read morea full kitchen, but you may want to bring some of your own supplies...not many pans and utensils! The best part is, of course, the view! Situated at the base of Deer Mountain ski area, there is lots of land with almost no view of the neighbors. The beds are not very comfortable, but you're so tired from hiking the Mickelson Trail you will hardly notice! There is a picnic table and a set of four chairs so you can sit and enjoy a beer or cup of coffee either under a roof or in the sunshine.

We made three stops, one and a half hours each. These stops were first at Mount Rushmore, next at Crazy Horse Memorial, and lastly at Custer where we also got to eat. Custer was busier than usual and we didn't get to eat where we wanted to because the wait was too long and we wouldn't have made it back to the bus in 90 minutes. Nevertheless, it was fun to be out there. After lunch we drove through Custer State Park and got to see a few more sights before driving back to the hotels in Keystone and Rapid City. We saw SO much in that one trip, and we learned so much from Bruce who really knows his history and has a fun way of sharing it.

Wasn't informed of an very loud event going on until we arrived at the campground. The guy was very…read morenice and told us if we wanted to go to another campground he would refund our money. Unfortunately it was almost 7 pm on Friday night of labor day weekend. How likely would it be to find another campground that had room, so we stayed Unfortunately. It was a Rave party, very loud annoying so called music, colored lights and strange gathering. We did our best to stay away from the campground, finding things to do locally until very late in the evening. The Rave went on until 2 am every night and started back up at 10 am. Really wish we would have tried to find another campground. Also wish we would have been notified of this event before we got there. Giving us a better chance. My advise to you is call before you stay because they didn't mention anything about this when I booked online. Not happy but made the best of it.

I was a little bummed that I had missed the "Welcome to South Dakota" sign but there is a lot of…read moreconstruction going on right now on this stretch of I-90 East and so it's possible that the sign was missing. Anyway, here's a rest area and it's a good one. Straight lines to get in and out, plenty of parking, a clean bathroom and a pretty solid collection of maps and guides for local attractions. It was not staffed when I came by at 6:30 PM on a Saturday. No wifi.

The whole team there did a fabulous job! There was nothing they would not do to ensure their guests were comfortable, taken care of and having all their needs met. We were in a RV, our water and other plumbing needs were taken care of every day with no wait times. Breakfast was served every morning and was delicious! Every single person there was cheerful and seemed happy to be there. I highly recommend this campground. Please be sure you get the armband for "da bus" so you can just hop on and off at various destinations and not have to worry about driving. Truly a great experience- we will be back!!

Tour does make for a long day- pick up around 7am and dropped off around 6pm. Got to Mt Rushmore early before crowds got to large. No way we we have driven Needles highway ourselves so was worth it for that alone. Wes has truly scoped out the best spots that people may miss. In all saw Mt Rushmore, Needles Highway, Crazy Horse and had lunch here, Custer state park and saw Bison and prairie dogs, Bison Center, Sylvan lake and so much of the Black Hills. Highly recommend.
