Can't believe I waited 64 years to make the trip to the chip. Loaded up the ol lady and the service pooch and drove the 1500 miles. So glad I finally did it. What can I say about this lovely camp, but what a great experience. Marcus, Karen and Cliff were awesome hosts, from the minute we arrived, till the time we left. I've been telling people to save, so they can join in the fun next year. Marcus was always answering texts very speedily, sorry Marcus, I know I was a pain the first hour, texting you with so many questions. The camp was clean, the tents were convenient and efficient, and I liked the common area with fireplaces to hang out with fellow riders, also to get your morning java and charge your phones through the day. Also the light path to the tent was a great idea, especially if you need to go to the special, clean and locked toilets just for our guests, in the middle of the night. The location of camp was close enough to hear the amazing bands play, that's to say, if you didn't feel like venturing out over the bridge to see them in person, it's also located right opposite bikini beach where you will find some eye candy for the gals and guys, but more for the guys lol. Food vendors were good and plentiful too. After a long ride. Who feels like pitching a tent, this was all ready at Camp Easy. Literally arrive, sleep, party and repeat. Shit is WILD!!! In the campground there are several bars, a steakhouse, stir, bbq pit and much more. Motorcycles, stripper poles, bikini beach.... During the big motorcycle rally you can party your heart out here. Drive your motorbike right to the front of the stage at the concerts. There must have been 200k people here for kid rock. I imagine 100k stayed at the campground itself. You can stay at the campground the whole time and never leave for a week. There were showers, beer stores and events. Security looked like a bunch of Wyoming cowboys that didn't stop the party once. The only negatives were price and how far out the site was. However they have buses to get to town. I'm glad I stayed here this year. 4 years ago I broke in and ziplined to a concert. Everything you ever thought you saw on TV exists. read more

I stayed here for the 79th Anniversary. I had a great time! there was more concerts and entertainment than I could handle and the staff was extremely helpful. I left for the day and came back to find that a storm had completely destroyed my (rented) tent. It looked like a childs wading pool that had been through a hurricane. The staff had a new one set up for me & ready to go before I even returned. The only down side was that I had picked this particular area (EZ Camp) due to the easy walking distance to showers and bathrooms, but the pipes had blown in it and it was dis-functional. I had a half mile walk (or ride) to a shower. I had reserved again for 2020, but delayed my stay until next year due to the COVID conspiracy. I received full credit towards my next stay. Never Again! We stayed at the Buffalo Chip campground last year and it was O.K., we saw a few good concerts, so we decided to try again for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 75th anniversary. We reserved our spots/bought tickets in March (5 months early). We arrived in August, early in the morning and they had given our reserved spot away. So they moved us a mile down the road to the overflow camping, which is actually a hay field. After setting up we found out the closest bathrooms were about 1/2 mile away (no exaggeration). By the end of our stay a couple porta-pottys showed up here and there, but the only way you would find them is to stumble across them. The first night we were there it rained and this field turned into a mud pit. There were vehicles stuck everywhere, and people were dropping their motorcycles left and right. The roads through the field were muddy and impassable. It was a 1/2 hour walk to the concert area, but you needed hip boots unless you wanted to arrive covered in mud (check out the photos I've attached to prove it). The concerts this year were crap too! I'm guessing that Woody (owner) knew people were not going to miss the 75th anniversary, so he was going to get our money whether he booked good bands or not! It's bad when you can not even remember who is playing that night, because they are not worth remembering! If Woody wasn't a cheapskate he'd spend a little money to make sure his customers had an enjoyable experience. read more

Do not eat at Stugis rider Cafe next to main stage. We witnessed the owner getting physically abusive with employee. He grab him pushed him to the floor. Another female employee said she was scared of the owner and had abused her too. The owner did not like the cashier explaining exorbitant charges. Misleading cost on menu. Buffalo Chip Campground is truly The Best Party Anywhere during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. If you do not want to party and have a great time you should stay elsewhere. I've been camping at the Buffalo Chip during Rally Week for the past 5 years. The staff is always friendly, courteous, and helpful no matter if you call on the phone, email, or encounter them in person. We usually arrive on Sunday which is a very busy check-in day and I've never stood in line more than 5 minutes to get my passes. Motorcycles cruise right in the campground usually with no line. Our support vehicle sometimes has to wait in line a bit (maybe 15-20 minutes) to get through the gate. If you're driving a camper (which we haven't done so I don't know how long the wait is), the lines sometimes can get very long because they escort you to your site. You pay for camping and the concerts are free with your camping pass. There are always at least 2-3 super concerts every year and the rest are ok but hey they're free. If you don't the music on a given night, play whatever music you want at your campsite or go downtown for the evening. This is definitely not a place for children and certainly not a place for prudes or overly sensitive folks. If you're a great partyer, open minded, and like fun and freedom come to the Chip and I'll see you there. read more

Let me start by saying that if you have to pay extra to take a HOT shower (that may not be hot) when other campsites provide you hot water for free- you are going to have a problem. We came in on Thursday this year and stayed through Sunday in our tent and we will not be back for that experience again. We stayed at Iron horse for the first part of the rally went to the chip on thursday, and by Sunday everyone in my party was wishing we had never left. (Iron horse is cheaper, always- ALWAYS!!! Has hot water and privacy for the ladies showers, clean running water toilets that -imagine this- YOU ALREADY PAID FOR WHEN YOU PAID TO STAY- and once again can i reiterate HOT WATER!!) You don't deal with as many people- but sometimes there is something to be said about quality over quantity, which the Chip seems to give two pennies less about. Every time i tried to take a shower they were cold, with a note on the door saying that the water heater had gone out. The bathroom attendant informed me that this was the same last year. So basicly they already knew the year before and did nothing to fix the situation. Unless you rent a golf cart be prepared to either ride your bike or walk, because this campground is huge and their is really only a couple of things opened during the day- unless the concert is going on - at which point everything is still an arm and a leg. The bartenders get rude, the staff doesn't care, and why should they when the chip really doesn't care either. I have enjoyed my stays at the chip in the past, but i guess it is because we decided to stay one day instead of the week, and i never had to shower there. I will NOT be giving anymore of my money to the chip. I will once again state the staff is rude, things are overpriced, there is NO hot water, the port-a-potties are not drained during the rally, and I can get better accommodations down the road. The concerts were all has-beens, unless you went at the beginning of the week and basically you are left on your own when staying here because it's all about the money. It's Bad Business Buffalo Chip and shame on you for taking all our money and not giving us a quality experience in return. I will not be back to support such inadequacies. I will just go down the road where my food is hot, reasonably priced, the staff is nice, and i can get a HOT shower. Next year, Iron horse anyone?!- Also from iron horse- you can hear the concerts at the buffalo chip if you stand by the barbwire fence. Won't be returning to the Buffalo Chip in 2015. When it rained - the section we camped by was so muddy that bikes where getting stuck and wiping out. Thank God for the guys camping next to the mud bog! They were so helpful, helping each person that came through. Notified the information desk and nothing was done. They did not even offer relief to the vendor section near the stage. It was a muddy mess. They really need to spend some money and add some gravel or put some hay down when it rains. Cold showers the whole time. What happened? The sign said new water heater to be installed? These are two reasons I won't be returning to the Buffalo Chip. The concerts, Dominos pizza, and the bbq place in the concert area were great, that's where everything stops. The dust sucks. Paying for a hot shower sucks. The prices they charge sucks. Not being able to use the awning because the other trailer was too close sucks. Trying to get out of the chip everyday sucks. The mud sucks. My brother dropping his bike, because of the mud sucks. The EMT guy that almost ran us over, in the concert area, because he was an asshole, then got off your atv, like you think your a bad ass, not, sucks. You know who you are asshole, sucks. 12.00 for 2 bags of ice sucks. Having my brothers golf cart break down sucks. Not changing the American flag, in the front, it was ripped sucks. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. It was expensive, filthy, had horrible service, and nearly zero organization. For starters, the wristband put us back about $350 each (for the boyfriend and I) for the 3rd-9th. once there the food was expensive, and their "general store" was a complete rip off (3$ for a pack of gum). I think the only deal we got was a $10 34oz mug that got us a fill when we picked it up and 6$ refills (of PBR) the length of the rally at the Rats Hole bar in the Amphitheater. The place was an absolute mess, when we got there on the 3rd which was the actual start date of the rally (Campground had been open for about a week already) it looked like a nonstop party had been going for the past month with no cleaning crew. Garbage's were constantly over flowing, porta-potties were disgusting, the only positive thing i have to say about the bathroom situation was the bathroom attendant near the deep lake rv campground. She kept the place very clean and had a wonderful personality. I wish I remembered her name because that girl needs some sort of bonus. Our first night there it stormed like crazy which made everything into a huge mud pit Woody needs to put some of the money from the overpriced EVERYTHING and pave the roads because bikes were going down let and right. I saw an RV sunk down to its axles. my body was caked in mud and my tent also had a nice layer of it in there too. None of the staff (besides the bathroom attendant) knew their asshole from a hole in the ground. One person would tell you one thing, and then someone else would tell you the opposite. Its a 21 and over pl;ace, but most of the employees looked fresh out of high school. TRAIN YOUR STAFF BETTER!!! The traffic...omg. There was a person manually changing the lights, which screwed everything up soooo badly. for a 2 MAYBE 3 mile stretch of road it took us nearly 2 hours. it was ridiculous. If you didn't get out of there before 7am or in before 7pm you were screwed. there needs to be another exit added. All in all the concerts were OK but everything else was horrible. I will NEVER pay to come back here again, though the staff is so horrible I could probably sneak in just fine. read more

I know the first question which will be asked when reading this review, why does a camp ground get 5 *'s? The answer is simple. I review based on how good something is at being what it is "supposed to be", and the Buffalo Chip is EXACTLY what it is supposed to be ... a biker's paradise. Dirty, repleat with smelly men, 1/2 naked women, mud, harley's as far as the eye can see ... there is literally no place on Earth like the Buffalo Chip. Where else can you: 1) Ride your Harley up to the edge of the stage and watch an A-list musical act perform? Oh, and then instead of applauding you fire up the throttle. 2) Watch fire dancers in the crowd no more than 5 feet from you. Yes, if she lets one of those go you're going to be more than singed. Oh, and no one is complaining. 3) Enjoy a "burnout" every 15 minutes. Yes, just about every 15 minutes someone is burning out their tires on a large pedastol mounted in the middle of the campground. Take note, although there are some families here, I wouldn't bring my kids as clothing really is optional. If you go, have a grand time ... but keep your head on and don't start any fights because ... well, no one is going to be able to save you here because there is no law. read more

I've been here a number of times throughout the years and I agree they do have the "Best party anywhere". The best deal on the planet is their E-Z Camp option. My only bitch is that the Crossroads bar is considered outside the campground, and as such, you can't bring your beer from there onto the campground property. My suggestion is that if it's a registered guest and they have less than one full beer, let them bring it in! read more

The biggest rip off in Sturgis. They make you buy a concert ticket for every night that you are camping there, regardless of whether or not you even want to see that particular band(s). This is a huge wheat field that over the years has been converted into a wannabe Woodstock with success. It ain't cheap but if you want music, it's got loads of high quality performers. Woody, the guy who owns it is the guy to see if you encounter a problem and can get things fixed in a hurry. It happens during theSturgis Bike Week buta motorcycle ain't nessacery to have a musical fiesta. Get a motorhome and fully stock it with supplies for the week. Rent a full service spot so you can run the air during the 100 degree days. And sleep days and enjoy the party every night. If you tow a toad there is a Wallyworld about 10 miles away to restock at normal prices and avoid the overpriced Sturgis Stupidmarket. read more

The Legendary Buffalo Chip is just that- an old legend of wild nights and crazy bikers. I would guess the average age now is around 60. Seams like they have priced all the younger, fun campers out? Just a bunch of old men with "show me your tits" on cardboard signs, passed out in lawn chairs under the awning of an expensive camper. At one time this was THE place to be. That is not true any more. There are other choices out there now. Places that give you more entertainment and services for your hard earned money. They know how to attract a fun crowd. They invest more in to the camp ground, run it better, and actually care. IN SHORT.. The chip seams to try and make another buck (or go cheap) were ever you turn! Another review summed it up well "Worst money grubbing pieces of trash ever." Hay Woody... Bring in you big name concerts during the main week. Run a blade down the bumpy roads. Clean your shower house. Don't let the port a potties fill up. Offer $6 Bud or Bud light refills (not PBR) in your $10 mug, Don't charge to park a bike trailer off the main grounds if I'm camping here. Get good food vendors. Hire a shuttle service to move people around in the camp ground. I'm paying top dolor and expect a great experience. IN MORE DETAIL.. We bought our tickets way in advance to avoid the price going up the longer you wait. It was still $1,304 for my husband & I to stay in our RV for a week. Then they announce the bands when the time gets closer & after you have paid. Three of the biggest names - Kid Rock, Willie Nelson & 3 Doors Down were all the week before the official rally dates. What the hell? Guess Its the Chips way of extending the week to try and make more money? Most performers are low budget has-bins. IF we actually liked and attended all the big name concerts individually at other venues... Lynyrd Skynyrd $50, Cheap Trick $32.00, Five Finger Death Punch $52.00, Miranda Lambert $30.00, and Buckcherry $22.00. The ticket total would be $186.00 X 2 =$372.00. We are still paying $932.00 to camp. The camp ground has very rough dirt roads. Even worse then what you would expect if you drove your camper or bike out in to a random field. I understand not putting down gravel, but they could at least run a blade down them and try to smooth them out. We payed $58.00 to park our trailer. I don't expect to be able to bring it into the camp because it takes up space, but $58 bucks extra to park it in a hay field? The walk to anywhere was long and up hill on the way back. If you think your going to leave the bike home so you can go out drinking forget it! We bought Da-Bus week long passes ($75 each) but had to walk out (25 minute power walk for us) to the bus stop on the main road outside the camp ground. You CAN get a hot, clean shower, but it will cost you! It's $12.00 a day for two people to use the on-site shower vendor. The FREE showers were dirty and I'm sure never clean in the first place! There is no way that a quick scrub or power wash before the event would have left the huge flakes of paint that were dropping off the walls. Mold on the shower curtains! I would think there would be money in the budget for new curtains & a couple hours of clean up before the event. Lots of "please tip me" signs but the attendant was always outside chatting with friends. Don't go during peak times because there will be no hot water. You CAN have a clean port a potty, but it will cost you! $250.00 a week for one that is actually pumped and cleaned daily. The FREE port a potties were full & gross. There was vomit in one from the time we got there until 2 days later. The campground literally stinks. It will still cost you $55.00 extra (if you per-pay) to use your own camper shower/ toilet because you will probably need to have your camper gray/black water tanks pumped out. Guess the Chip figures that if the showers and toilets are dirty, they can make extra money. Packaged beer was reasonable, but you can't take it to the events even though you already bought it from the Chip. The best "deal" was buy a mug at $10 & get $6 refills of what I think was Pabst Blue Ribbon. It's only $11 a keg more to upgrade to Bud. What cheap a$$es! I was looking forward to eating yummy, over priced food on a stick and gyros all week. I don't mind paying high prices if the food is good. The only time I ate there was at the cross roads. I ordered a gyro platter (advertised on the sign that it comes with a greek salad and rice). The vendor dunked some already cooked fries back into the deep firer to heat them up, plopped them down next to a gyro made with black, hard, crispy, burnt meat & slimy brown lettuce, then demanded $15.00! I told him that was not what I ordered. He then said "We don't have salads or rice, only fries, fifteen dollars". I told him I didn't want the fries, he was pissed & slammed the fries into the trash. Still cost me $10 for an gyro that also went into the trash after I got a closer look at it. read more

Just camped there for a week for Bike Week. Great campground; you can tent camp, rent a trailer (which I did) or bring a monster RV. Plus little cabins. Nice grassy and hilly spots, all the facilities (bathrooms, public showers), food vendors, coffee, clothing, bars (of course) - even takeaway beer shop near the entrance. Woody the owner is great guy - and a legend. They keep this place clean, have their own water well, and two electrical companies. My only complaint is that the RV spaces, while providing electric and water, don't have drainage. So the gray water goes onto the ground (unless I suppose you use the tank), and a service empties the black tank. Can get smelly, but otherwise nice facilities. read more

During the Sturgis, South Dakota, Black Hills Motorcycle Classic Rally, the 75th anniversary in 2015. First, we did not want to camp so we did not camp at the Buffalo Chip, as we preferred the comforts of a hotel. We came for fun, enjoyment and the ongoing entertainment. 'Came here for a concert and love this place! Hah! It's amazing how many bikes can fit and the campground. Many traffic lights were being manually changed depending upon traffic. Most someone/group obviously has done this before as they had traffic being directed smoothly with excellent signage and infrastructure... Sani-huts were almost never too full...(ya "go" a lot when you drink beer! ). Great bands. Great T-shirt designs. The Budweiser Clydesdales were there. They are huge and majestic. They seem to pose for the camera but honestly, my photos were too dark and only showed the steel-barred stalls they kept them in. They got excited when they took out the Budweiser wagon. Haha! There was a guy riding a motorcycle around with a chick lying face-up on the gas tank (as if they were having sex under her bikini), and another chick was on the back in a bikini... Lol. People of all shapes and sizes were there and it was fun to people-watch, point at the nice bikes, and we really liked the ones people had decorated. It's not very far from Sturgis, and the area is beautiful with rolling hills full of trees and meadows. But tough, they offered to move it to next year, in case the band returned then, What The Hell! The only reason I spent $175 was to see this band, who is not coming. No one puts on better events & has more top name Classic & Modern Rock bands than the Buffalo Chip. They even have some great country bands come in, so there is something here for everyone! We have tickets for 2017. We have never been so we didn't know where to start. After reading a few things online we decided to call the Buffalo Chip just to be able to start somewhere. My wife and I were so happy with the treatment we received on the phone. Their representative treated us like family and thoroughly answered all our questions. I'm sorry I'm forced to give this shit hole a star... We didn't stay here but went there for a concert. First off it's a bike rally so why do they have the bike parking so far from the entrance? The cars park a lot closer then the bikes. I know the Buffalo Shit can't help it if it rains but it could better prepare its facility in case it does! Such as put some $$ into the roads and parking lots.. Maybe gravel the roads or heaven forbid actually pave them.. It rained and the lots and roads were a mud bog.. Saw plenty of bikes get stuck and spun over.. It was a disaster.. The Buffalo Shit prides itself on how it's been the premier campground for over 20 years. You would think they had this whole mud road thing figured out by now I will never go there again, I don't care if john Lennon and George Harrison came back from the grave and the Beatles had a reunion concert at the buffalo shit... I paid 65.00 to shower for 8 days. Dirty showers and then they have dummies that want to be tipped. The filth in the bathrooms can't be explained. If you are at the rally to get any sight seeing in avoid this time sucking wormhole of a camp ground. Waiting in line of bikes for 1 hour and 30 mins just to get started with our ride. Buffalo Chip Campground - Traffic at the "Chip". - Campgrounds Near Me - Sturgis, South Dakota

This isn't really a review just a question. I recently purchased tickets and VIP tickets for this August and I wish I would of looked into it more cause it was pricy. Was wondering if anyone has ever got the VIP tickets and actually got a meet and greet or how it works? Went last year and it was Awesome but didn't get the VIP then. read more

Not boy scout camp, I wouldn't bring the kids here, but its waay fun. Rated X much of the time.

Really big campground that is spread out over multiple acres. Here for the rally and there is a little bit of everything. Several places to eat and nightly concerts. Driving around the campground, you will see people camping in tents, cargo and horse trailers, up to some very expensive motorhomes. This is not a quiet place to camp, but you can find a lot to do here. Not really a place for kids, but of course there are a few here. It's really recommended to bring some type of small pitbike or golf cart to get around. read more
