Went paddle boarding with 3 friends. No instructions, no warnings about the wind. Life jacket didn't fit, and I also didn't get a paddle. My friends were already in the water when they realized the ran out, so they gave me a metal oar. It didn't work. We got stranded because of the wind and my friend almost died. A boat came by and saved her then picked the rest of us up. We asked to speak to the supervisor, who was the owner, and he gave us 10 bucks off one board. We could barely stand and didn't want to argue, so we just paid. He was very rude and didn't say sorry once. I would've had a better experience if I just found a log and swam with it. read more

Save yourself the headache and go to ADMIRAL D'S instead!!! Our family has visited Tally's regularly each summer over the past 3 years. I want so badly to like Tallys but in many areas they have consistently made it impossible. From the food at CG Hooks, ice cream, the youth fishing camp they offer and Tallys dockside for drinks etc, we've had so many negative experiences that I can't continue to spend money here. The staff is poorly trained at best and the management so clearly lacks skills and leadership necessary to effectively train staff as well as tact in handling customers. Summers are precious to Minnesotans. We love our lakes and the ability to enjoy good food ad drink while taking in the view. Over priced and underserved isn't a good combo here. read more

Reserved deluxe fishing boat for half a day. Arrived the morning of to be told that the boat was not available due to motor issues. Was offered pontoon in place of it. Accepted the pontoon only to discover the extreme limitations they had on them that limited the ability to fish. Was not told until after we accepted it that we were required to stay 100yards away from shore at all times. Then to top it off the topper was stationary and unable to be brought down so we were limited in how we could cast, plus the depth finder/ fish finder never worked. When we mentioned the depth finder not working as we got back the young guy at the docks said he drives the boats all the time and never thought to check and see if they actually worked and didn't realize it was stuck in simulation mode. On another not the website describes that you will be given a map of the lake that we never received. It also states that they sell bait so we waited to buy bait at the location only to be told they stopped selling last year. Overall it was extremely disappointing especially when we asked for compensation for all of the issues and false advertising only to be told well you still got to use a boat so we don't see why you should get anything back or be compensated for the issues. I have been here 4 times in the last two years. Maybe it's my luck but every time slow service. I was there last night 08/08/17 and they did not have enough staff. We(family) went to the Tally's side first. We sat for 10 minutes and not one person came by. So we got up and went to Hooks across the street. All the same place. We eventually got service there. But I had to ask for someone to come see us. Remember this place is in a beautiful location and a cute little place. Thus the 2 stars. This place needs MANAGEMENT!!!!! Poor scheduling. Granted it gets busy with nice weather. And dead when it rains. But here are the complaints--staffing, training, no soap in the bathroom, wait staff prepping food. I hope they get it fixed. Anna our server worked her tail off. But you could see how frustrated she was with how this is run. Maybe it's time for Gordon Ramsay!!!! It is SAD!!! The owners are very nice also!! read more

Came here for a drink and to listen to some live music. We found both, and a great table right in the rail overlooking the lake. So setting, free live music, and goodish beer selection were all pluses. On the not as good side, I felt the beer was really expensive, the staff was accommodating but not all that engaging or overtly nice at all, and the crowd was quite a bit older than my demographic (mostly 50s I would guess). Ok, they've earned their star back! We went back again for another outing on White Bear Lake. This time we were taken down to the boat by a staff member and given a run-down over a checklist where the guy made sure everything was in place, gave us instructions on operation of the boat, checked the fuel tank, and guided us out of the slip the boat was anchored to. All very well done, and a nice professional touch. I liked seeing him check things off a list. The boat performed just fine. We got the regular boat again, bust this one had a larger and updated anchor. It was roundish in three sections. It was rock solid. Everywhere we anchored to fish, we had no trouble at all. The anchor bit in and held us in place. Very happy with the way it worked. So thanks Tally's! You've restored our faith in you! read more

While Tally's is a nice place to sit and listen to music, the service is just atrocious. Many of the staff are even outright rude, acting like you, the customer, are a total inconvenience. This is the norm for them, every time I've tried again, we are disappointed. read more

Sat down & asked for water- was directed to the igloo water coolers and "bathroom" style paper cups - seriously 4oz - to service ourselves. The water was warm, and tasted like bleach. That lost a table for four as we got up & walked out- will not be back. read more

We went to rent paddle boards today and it turned into a life or death situation. We rented the paddle boards went down to the dock two people went out on the lake. They then got ready to send the next two people in our group out on to the lake and realized they didn't have any paddles left (something they definitely should have checked before sending anyone out). They grabbed an oar and were like ah good enough. I want to stress they did not fit us for life jackets, explain how to paddle board, things to look out for etc. like any normal place that rents these things would do. We get out on the lake and realized the waves were pretty bad so we didn't go far. Soon enough we are struggling to paddle in especially the one stuck with the oar. We are all in our 20s in decent shape and have paddle boarded before. Soon enough it turned into a life or death situation as my friend flipped her board and it drifted away with her life jacket strapped on and we were all to far away to help luckily a boat stopped and saved us all. We got to dock exhausted as we had now been paddling for an hour against the current with no hope. The people on the boat stressed that they should have never sent us out there and that was a life or death situation. The kicker is we talked to the owner and they were like we will give you a discount on the one board that didn't have a correct paddle (didn't even give a full refund on that one). Honestly we were to exhausted to fight it. The real issue was the guy didn't say sorry and was like "welp now you know not to go when there's wind" no empathy. It's clear that they just care about money and want you to get stranded so they can charge you for more time. This place is extremely unsafe do not come here if you are going with children, or older people, or even if you not a seasoned paddle boarder. read more

Couldn't believe what a terrible experience a friend and I had there this afternoon. she ordered the "5 cheese" quesadilla, for 9 dollars, and it was smaller than most children portions at other restarunts (no side included). I ordered the pork tacos. The pork was either too fatty for consumption, or too red to even think about trying. The rice was way under cooked as well. Would have considered giving a few more stars, but I don't think I have ever had such a bad server in my life. This place has a nice view of the lake which our kids loved. Staff seemed nice enough. The food was okay at best. The food and drinks are very overpriced. I think I paid almost $14 for a brisket sandwich on a McDonald's equivalent bun, it was cold, and came with a side of cole slaw. My kids had grilled cheese which was pretty good but also expensive. Beer selection was pretty good but it is at most places nowadays, very overpriced also. We spent nearly $100 with tip on 3 beers, 2 kids drinks, 2 grill cheese, brisket sandwich, and a quesadilla. Yikes. We were there while there was no music so we did not experience that. We usually go to Admiral D's and I think going forward we will stick with them on the White Bear Shore. read more

Nice clean boat, very reasonably priced and polite professional service. And more to the point, I accidentally forgot to get my license and credit card back after I returned the boat and realized it at 10pm that night when I had a flight to catch back to Florida the following morning. Have been a regular over the last few years, ate this week here and have decided that that's last time to frequent. Beer cost is ridiculous. $9+tip for a 10oz cup. Ordered a cheese quesadilla. Think microwaved 6" round tortilla, with 1/16" of bland cheese in it and that's what you get for $10. I laughed when I saw it. My 11 year old who doesn't cook could do better. Wife bought a Cobb salad, was pretty disgusted with it. Poor presentation, mediocre ingredients and expensive $12 for portion size. Meat was fatty and not flavorful. View as always is great, but paying high prices for low quality food. read more

This review is for the boat rentals. Very convenient that you can reserve a fishing boat online (not pontoons). We've reserved the deluxe fishing boat twice and had great experiences. The dock boys are very helpful and friendly. They keep the boats really clean and maintained. Caught a 28" Northern the second time, so maybe that sweetened the deal ;) Will keep renting boats from them, until someday we buy our own! read more

Zero leadership and it reflects on the service here. I just got back from here and three of us had drinks and dinner. We sat for 15 minutes before we received menus or a drink order. So we ordered and got our dinner before our drinks. The food is ok but the service is absolutely terrible, the young waitress was off doing who knows and never followed up for drinks or to see how our dinner was or if we needed anything. Which is a shame because this place could be a lot of fun. Won't be back till it changes names, work to hard for my money and I will go to admirals d s just down the street. read more

This review is based off one visit for lunch on a Saturday. I regret not taking any photos which is so unlike me. My friend and I were able to find a table right next to the water. The place was busy, I would say every table was full. The service was slow, they didn't have many servers. My adult lemonade for 7.50 left much do be desired. Boring cheap lemonade with booze was over-priced. My friend ordered some pulled chicken with lettuce as a bun for 12.95 super small portion for that price. The only sides available we all carbs corn bread and mac n cheese. She asked for a side salad but they didn't offer it. Not great option when your on the whole 30. I opted for a raspberry, ham & brie press sandwich. It was more like a hamburger bun that was put in a panini machine but the ham was still cold. Cant say I would be back for the food. But maybe come back for live music and people watching. read more

my husband and I have enjoyed Tallys for years. great atmosphere and service. however, this past week I reserved a pontoon on line and inadvertently ordered it twice. I called Tallys immediately and spoke with the owner. she said it wasn't her fault and would not reimburse me. she did offer a certificate. which was OK. however, I am not in a position to be out this money. I spoke with her the day we went for our pontoon ride and she was cold as ice. therefore, I will not give this place another penny. her customer skills are lacking. the staff is great and I hope she is good to them. not a nice woman read more

Went to tally's with a friend for the live music, food, and drinks. We were extremely disappointed by the treatment we received by the owner (Jan). We were waiting in line to be seated and a few middle aged couples who showed up after us, standing behind us in line were showed to nice tables before us. When we spoke up and said we were here before them Jan said "we don't keep a list" and continued to look over us. We had been here once before and had incredible key lime pie drinks. They were served with something around the rim - ice cream and coconut, I think. Also a grahm cracker on the top - real nice drink and a view of the lake - nice! So we went back today and it was so bad. First the gal at the ordering station didn't really want to take that order, she wasn't sure they had everything to make them. Just as I was about to change my order, she insisted they did have everything, but it would take a while, because they were short staffed. Fine, we said we didn't mind waiting. And wait we did - for quite some time. They were steady, but not hugely busy. No problem tho, we said we'd wait, so whatever. When our order was finally ready, the dude had made one. When I said there should be 2 (we'd already paid for 2 - and tipped) the gal says to him, "oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, I needed two." WTF? Then when my husband asked if they had the graham cracker "and stuff" Dude says, "Nope! That's how we make them here!" Maybe he should look at the drink menu? Says right on it. Ok, they were both rude. I know it's tough to get any help at all, let alone good help, but wow. We were thinking of trying dinner sometime but we probably won't go back. If they don't want to make the items the way they are described on the menu, maybe they should take those items off. read more

We have been to tally's multiple times for beers and outdoor patio setting. Decided to rent a pontoon for a fun night out, when half way out the lake the pontoon shut off and we realized there was no gas in the boat!!! We went back to get gas, tipped the dock boy for helping and went back on the lake. After our night on the boat, we decided to get drinks at the patio. We decided to give feedback to the owners of what happened with the gas..oh boy. The owners decided that our feedback was not welcome and literally gave us "to go" cups for our drinks and made us leave the establishment and said "we are ready to turn over the table to another group." Our food was being brought out and the owner told the server to take it away. Incredibly bad service. We will never return and neither will our friends. read more

Went in with a co-worker after work for a drink. I grew up on the other side of the lake and oddly enough have never been to this place. The patio is pretty small but does sit right up against the water with a beautiful view of the marina with boats right in your face. That's about the only thing going for it though. The patio wasn't nearly as beautiful. They only had 8 or so plastic tables to sit at and the patio was filled in with rocks. The service was the worst part of the experience. We sat at a table for 5-10 minutes before being helped and we were one of the only groups of customers in there. When a server did finally come out he was very unhelpful. we asked him a few questions about their drink list and he clearly didn't have a clue about anything going on there. I then asked if they had a beer list and he wasn't sure and had to go check. He came back a few moments later with one. After we ordered our drinks he was never seen again. Someone else came out and delivered our drinks. We had another friend join us and we had to flag them down before they would come stop by to take her order. She ordered a mojito which may have been a mistake because it took so long for them to make it. What are you growing the mint back there!? We finished our cocktails and naturally nobody came out again so we had to go inside to tell them to drop off the bill. When he did arrive I began to dig through my wallet to pay in cash. He stood there awkwardly right behind my shoulder while I was counting my money. I told him I would just leave it on the table but that wasn't a hint enough to give me a moments privacy while I was paying him. The servers could use an hour of training because it seemed like everyone there had never worked there a day in their life. On top of the bad service was the incredibly overpriced drinks. The prices seemed just all over the board. A pint of Summer Shandy will run you $6.50, Liftbridge was $8.00 if I remember correctly. Other IPAs on the menu that are more expensive are only $5.50. We had 3 drinks and our bill came out to $25. Smirnoff was $7 Jerimiah weed was $7.50 and the mojito was $8.00 which seemed like the most reasonable price out of all three. As nice as the view is it's not enough to make me break bank on a couple of cocktails. I didn't try the food but If it takes that long to get a drink I don't even want to know how long the food takes. read more

Went to Tally's on Memorial Day. They were out of every tap beer except Miller Lite but still encouraged us to sign up for their "60 beers of summer tour." They had a decent bottle selection but bottled beer here is pricey at $7. Our waitress couldn't recommend any of the bottles or answer any of our questions about the drinks. Ordered food which comes from the BBQ place across the street. It was ok, but again, they were out of several items that we tried to order. Great view but disappointing experience. It was $50 for the two of us for two beers and a mediocre meal. It took over an hour to get our check, and it wasn't crowded. read more

I would never write a review normally but this was so bad I had to. I ordered the tin with pulled pork with macaroni cheese and chips. The chips were amazing, I'll give them that. The macaroni was dried up shell noodles with cheese sauce half on it. The pulled pork was okay but had a lot of fat in it. It was supposed to come on top of Texas toast but was served on an oil soaked piece of wheat bread. The service was terrible It took about 1.5 hours to wait for a server than get the food. The blue marlin was green and not poured properly and took 45 mins to get to the table...the server of course blamed it on the bartender. They get one star for their chips. read more

You can't beat the lakeside location and atmosphere. However, the service was horrible. We waited 15 minutes to be greeted by waitstaff, so I got up to get beers from the bar. Waitress finally came to give us menus, came back asked if we were ok on beer, then walks away without taking food order. So we had to wait another 15 minutes for her to come back. I ordered the Trifecta Tacos, and as I lifted up the taco I immediately saw a LONG hair in a piece of chicken. It was disgusting. Only getting three stars because of location and live music..I will not over food from here again. The owner needs to get up from drinking beer and train her staff better. read more

My family and I have rented out pontoons, paddle boards, etc. here for the past few summer's and we absolutely love it. They have a great patio area and live music on the weekends! Beer and wine were spilled multiple time on multiple people in my family. We took it with smiles and acceptance, mistakes happen. however they had stained some of our clothes and when I approached the owner about the situation she laughed at me, told me not to wear nice clothes and did nothing for me or my family who have been going there for years. Modified: I went to the local repair shop to see if I could get my shoes cleaned and they said that the damage was unrepairable. I then contacted one of the owners of the company and he almost immediately accused me of being fishy. I was just looking for compensation of the damage to my clothes. He then accused me of lying to him and changing my story which never changed. He then got angrier and requested I write down exactly what happened at what times and all who was involved and he would get it to his legal department... I never told him I was suing. I had a complaint and I was looking for them to make it right. This company has awful management and a carless staff. My recommendation is that if you go wear swim trunks and clothes you would not mind getting ruined, that is after all what the owner recommended I should have done... read more

Wen't here on a whim as I had dined at Acqua several times and was in the area. It's just a confusing place, we ordered a few of their weird hot-dogs and it felt like we were doing something that everyone who knows better wouldn't do. The hot-dogs were pretty gnarly, just sloppy and done in a way that clearly shows it's not the main focus of their business. That would be alcohol, and I assume their food goes over much better after 19 beers, which is most likely the only time anyone orders it. read more

The past couple of times we've been there it was slow and the servers would just stand behind the bar and talk amongst each other and play on their phones.
