Good 9 hole course. It's short and has no par 5s. Things are a bit tight so you may have to watch out for errant balls from another hole. The holes themselves are visually appealing and everything is in good condition. Pace is an issue, but only on a relative basis, as I finished in 2:10 despite 3 lengthy delays from holes 5-9. There were 2-3 groups waiting, so it's probably possible to finish in 1:30 or less. Bathrooms in the clubhouse and between holes 4-5 are very clean and have requisite items like soap, hand dryers, etc. The beverage cart came around once, which is fine for 9 holes, as you also end up near the clubhouse regularly. Nearly every hole had a ball washer and they were all topped up and had towels. I didn't try the restaurant but it looks like an excellent place to watch a game and likely has the standard pub fare. Overall, it's a good spot to walk a quick 9 that's not too far from downtown and is a high quality option vs other city run courses. read more

Normally I would say what a great little nine hole course. Not today 9/11/21. No where to go and the group behind us hit into us three times. If you're going to employ rangers they should damn well do their jobs. Plenty of other options in the area. May want to consider your options. read more

A very simple course that is too, expensive, too slow moving ( almost 3 hours for nine holes), too rude woman working in the pro-shop. I had a golf now for 19 dollars that included the cart she insisted that it did not I had to show here the golf now reservation that stated " cart included" she still wanted to charge me an additional 10 dollars she would not listen. When I asked to speak to the manager she said he was not there and I asked her to call him she refused. This went on for 10 min until other group arrived also golf now with cart included so she finally relented what a pos. I will never golf here again read more

Denise J. and I went here on a early Friday evening. We wanted to get in a "quick nine" and we did. We finished just before the sunset. The "course ranger" came over and told us that we could finish our second to last hole on a different hole because there was a group of four in front of us and he "wanted to make sure we get in all nine" Very sweet. For a Park District Course the grounds are very well maintained. Nice short course. Two water holes....uuuggghhh. "Gigi" wrote in her review "The fairways are tight, so when someone yells "Fore!" you better look around to see if something is flying at you" Take her advice...very accurate. Tam Tam Tam, what can a guy say about Tam. Nice and easy little course tucked into Niles. Better than most park district courses, and a great option if you want to go out and play a quick nine. The Rangers, though, are a little out of control. After playing for 43 years, I've never seen Rangers as nasty and the ones I've encountered multiple times at Tam. I wonder if they have electricity hooked up to their cart seats or maybe they starve them all day so that they Ranger hangry? Either way, nice course, but the Rangers really need to chill out. A great part of Tam is they they have a very good casual restaurant/bar there that stands on its own. A great place to stop whether you're golfing or not. So...., 3 stars for the course, 2 stars for the Rangers, and 4 stars for the stop after the round. Fore! read more

This is my second golf outing I have ever been to at Tams and I have to say that I have a great time every time I go there! Nicely taken care of 9 hole course. Awesome CLub house with at least 10 HDTV's Cheap beer specials! attractive beer girls! and yess you can sneak in booze into the course via your golf bag and get ripped!!!! nothing like a day in the sun kicking back some cervezas and smacking that white ball around!! The Tam o' Shanter golf course is managed by the Niles Park District. It was the site of the first nationally televised golf tournament in 1953. Arnold Palmer played here. It was originally 18 holes but was cut to 9 so that industry could expand on the south side of Howard Street. That shouldn't stop you from going and playing a round. Course length is 2583 yards and is a par 33. There are no 5 pars, and only a few 3 pars. It's a good and manageable walk. It is set in a beautiful wooded area with trees and flowing creeks. I have seen flocks of geese, ducklings following their mama, rabbits and deer while playing. It reminds you how great it is to be out in nature. People of all skill levels play here. The fairways are tight, so when someone yells "Fore!" (and they do), you better look around to see if something is flying at you. I have had balls drop within 3-5 feet of me several times after I heard players hollering that word, and now I have a complex, and am considering expanding my golf wardrobe to include a bicycle helmet that will complement my ugly plaid pants and kiltie shoes. The greens are usually dry as hell and are shaped like potato chips. More challenging than you think. My favorite hole is no.7 -- the fairway is really wide and long, so if I slice it there's still have a chance that it'll land in a decent place! They have friendly roving beer cart and ranger people. There are water coolers at several holes and a restroom and drink vending machines on hole no. 5 There's a pro shop and lessons are available. No driving range, but they do have a putting green. I don't live in Niles so I pay $17 for the round and $3 for a pull cart on the weekdays-- cheaper than Waveland. Play time is about 2 hours, twenty minutes. A very pleasant place. read more

9 home golf course was ok at best. Only have it 1star for the price because it's cheap. Main issue was with the course ranger where we rented a golf cart and he followed us for the first 4 holes making sure we were driving the cart correctly and rushing us throughout the entire course. My friend and I are just an amateur golfers that began golfing a few months ago after taking a serious interest in the sport. After going to the range several times, I decided to take on the 9 hole courses. He insulted us several times (thinking he's helping us by sharing his opinion when it was never asked) and talked to us with a terrible sarcastic tone in his voice. I would never go there again!!!! I wish I could give this course 0 stars. Their employees are liars and incredibly rude. Right off the bat, they rushed us even though we were perfectly alright, and honestly I believe that it's because we were a get out of mainly women. When there were groups in front of us that were taking their sweet time (men), they told us to pick up our balls and move on. They said it was because we took 25 minutes to get through one hole, but that is blatantly not true because our tee time was 10:40 and it was 10:55. They claimed it was 25 minutes when it was really only 15, and when we moved onto the next hole, the group before us was still on the fairway so we couldn't tee off. The incredible disrespect I felt as a woman playing golf was extremely disappointing, because they said nothing to the men who were making us wait. Playing on this course made the group of women and I feel small and belittled. If you are a not an old white man, don't play here because they won't respect you. read more

For a 9 hole, this place got some longer places where I can attempt to use my driver. The fact that it is pretty much all par 4's is nice.... 9-holes that are all par 3 can go really really quick. I just enjoy this place for being a pretty fun links course. Only problem is that it is hard to bring your own booze on this course. read more

This is a golf course that recently opened it's gates. They are one of the smaller clubs in the area with only 9 holes. You can shoot 9 holes for $16.00 and it's even cheaper if you are a Niles resident. Take advantage of the nice weather and if you get a chance stop by and practice your swing. read more

The smell. .... I cannot believe no one has posted about the smell. On the north branch of the Chicago River, the entire course smells like the rot of an abcessed tooth. It's disgusting. Aside from the smell which was impossible to ignore, the course plays well. We teed off at 8:30 after a rainy day and all of the greens played very slow. Pace of play was relatively slow as well, with most players walking and many are seniors. read more

Tam, never again. I have been coming here for years and the rangers have always been a pain. Always hawking you to hurry up. Today, I had one who tried to talk to me while I was hitting a shot, how disrespectful? I would rather play somewhere else where I am not constantly harassed on every hole. 4 rangers for a 9 hole course?? Never seen that before. By the way, I was playing by myself and the slow group was ahead of me so no need to come and harass and disrespect me. Will take my money, and my golf skills somewhere better. read more

The course is in good shape, tee boxes, fairways, greens- all well kept. Very odd assortment of holes. 1St hole is 400 and takes a decent drive to be in position to hit the green in regulation. The next few holes are very easy par 4s (275-330yrds), the 3 par 3s are relatively challenging. On the 6th(par 3) the blue tees, when way back is around 205, tee shot must carry about 185 to avoid front sand (nice hole). The 8th is another 400 par 4, straight with sand on left at about 265-280, but is dead straight. I played this course 2 times in the last 2 weeks and have no urgency to go back. The starters were not harassing me to play faster, but the course is SLOW. It seems most golfers here dont hit their fairway. You hear "four" every 10 min, and balls are all over the place. The bar/grill/clubhouse (Howatd st Inn) is awesome. Great sportsbar, beautiful waitstaff (yes, I said it), great beer specials, food is good. I'll be back there for sure read more

This course was originally an 18-hole layout that hosted the first ever televised golf tournament. Over the years the course has developed into a splendid nine-hole layout. Always maintained, and always a good decision for any skill-golfer. Tam will invite you with it's short(er) holes, but haunt you with challenging, tight fairways and tricky greens. All in all, this is one course that this reviewer will always enjoy playing. read more
