We signed up for the Cataract Gorge cruise, hoping to see more of the gorge and the waterfall...but it turned out to be quite disappointing. The whole cruise was about 50 mins long but the captain spent half the time cruising on Tamar River. Dont get me wrong, he shared a lot of history/ information about Launceston...but that's not what i want to see/hear! Finally we made it to Cataract Gorge, no waterfall in sight, and we could only made it as far as you could if you would be on foot. Overall a disappointing experience. read more
I was lucky enough to attend a friends birthday on a chartered boat tour up the Tamar. Staff (driver and a bartender) were very friendly and happy to help. There were about 18 of us on bored it wasn't too crowded but you probably wouldn't want too many more. The boat was clean, modern and had the added bonus of a toilet on board. Drink prices were fairly stranded and the organiser was able to select from a list or beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks to take on board (limited space). Also you are able to take on your own food which is a nice touch. I'd recommend this to anyone. read more
