Tamarind Reef Resort provided me with the perfect little getaway. A very affordable ocean front room with a hotel that was in a good central location to tour Christiansted. The hotel has a beach, but its not for swimming just for looking out at, which I didn't mind much I just taxied over to Buccaneer Resort up the road. The rooms are clean, neat, and islandy in theme (wicker furniture, ceramic tile floors, aqua blue balcony walls). It was comfortable and I felt very safe on the property. The hotel staff is very nice and were quite helpful. I suggest you go to Seaside (grocery/deli/wine shop) to pick up some items for breakfast or lunch, because the hotel at times may not provide breakfast for whatever reason. The resort is somewhat secluded. The resort restaurant Deep End is a huge plus with good food, drinks, by the pool , and housing the best bands on the island who come in and play various days of the week. I would totally stay here again just for my lovely ocean view room alone. read more

It's on the beach, and every room has an ocean view.That's a good start because the water here is beautiful. The casual dining restaurant is outdoors and good. A canopy protects all diners from the elements, and the ocean view is extraordinary. The servers get it. They are friendly and attentive, but not in a mandatory, regimented way. I had Eggs Benedict today, and it was good. My photo tells the tale of Benedict. PS, YELp community gestapo, it's my original photos in the event some wannabe try's to suggest otherwise. My room is beach nice, although the person in the next room was unusually loud late last night - as late as midnight. The front desk staff seemed to be all business, and while that's okay, adding a dash of charm might not hurt - ouch. Brenda, who manages the beach, is great, and she gave me solid advice about where to snorkel and the rip currents. read more

This hotel served our purposes just fine. The rooms are clean and housekeeping visits daily. There is a balcony with lounge chairs and an ocean view. There is a lap pool, bar, restaurant, and beach on premises. There are tennis courts and a gym. The marina is adjacent to our hotel. On the downside, the bed mattresses are quite hard, the balcony door is incredibly hard to open, the beach is not well-cared for, the pool is freezing, it gets very loud when there is a band/performance at the bar/restaurant, you have to bring your own tennis rackets for the tennis courts, and the front desk staff was not very friendly. read more

It gets two stars...the rooms are nice and the location is beautiful. BUT we have been traveling all day and have an early day tomorrow and "Disco Bingo" night from 6-9 next to our room turned into an all night party. There is a DJ blasting club jams so loud that the walls are shaking. I have called the front desk more than once and no answer. I am all for people letting loose and enjoying their vacation, but 1. They should have warned us when we were checking in that it was gonna be loud...maybe offer us a room further away if they could, and 2. Be at the front desk to answer the phone. Not having a great time. We were planning to extend our stay for several more nights if we liked this spot...now Im glad its just the two nights. What kind of hotel keeps all their guests up until 1100 at night on a Thurs for the sake of the four people still bingo-lingering? Just praying that tomorrow night goes better than this. Don't go here for luxury. If you are accustomed to state side RESORTS, THIS AIN"T IT! The Hotel is quite rustic. The wine was not drinkable, but the food was tasty. They also serve their drinks in plastic cups, except the wine. We were a party of 6 and they did not bring out the food together, which meant some had cold food, by the time that the other patrons dinner were served. read more

We were so excited to go to St Croix for the first time, the reviews and photos on their website looked very nice, so we booked 4 nights with TRR. When arriving, the resort looks NOTHING like the photos on the website. The website shows everything all clean and new looking but that is just not so. Everything is in need of major maintenance. Everything is run down, not taken care of and just pretty much broken. We supposedly had one of their best rooms but from our experience this place is a expensive dive hotel (we're divers so we know the cheap dive hotels and this was NOT cheap). Our room had several issues, Shower door doesn't close or open without force, paint peeling in the bathroom, AC doesn't work that well (lucky if you get the room cooler than the outside with it), the sliding door was so hard to open that you could get a hernia opening and closing it, the front door stuck so bad that you have to force it open and closed to go in and out, the ceiling fan had issues (it mostly did this clicking noise). The floor in the room is not clean even after housekeeping comes, evident from having to wipe your feet off every time when you get into bed so you don't get a bunch of junk in the bed. There are several more things but I would just warn people to stay away so you don't get surprised like we did. read more

Wonderful laid-back place to enjoy a lunch or dinner. The grilled blackened mahi over a choice of salad is delicious! Others enjoyed fish and chips, a jerk-mahi sandwich, and of course, a juicy burger piled high with sautéed mushrooms, onions, and sliced tomatoes. Would highly recommend this resort for an off-the-beaten-path stay! Here are some of the pros: * The snorkeling is amazing! They have free snorkels (and kayaks, paddleboards...) for guests, and you just step off the beach onto the reef. I also took a snorkel tour to Buck Island Reef and the Tamarind Reef was just as vibrant (and right outside the hotel room). It's a little bit scary getting into the water for swimming because the reef is right there, but safe as long as you have water shoes/flippers and goggles to see. * View from the oceanfront rooms is epic. It feels like you're the only one on the island sometimes. You can also see the sun setting over a hill. * Pool is a good temperature, clean, has a nice view. No complaints. * It's only a 10-minute drive to Christiansted, which makes it easy to go to town for dinner, drinks, etc. * The Deep End restaurant has great drinks and food. Best pina colada I had on the trip. The Galleon was mneh, so I wouldn't recommend that. * Rooms themselves are comfortable. Always fresh linens and towels, big comfy bed, kitchen so you can prepare coffee/tea and meals. My one recommendation to the establishment is to have someone do a sweep of the property for trash at the end of each day. There were two beer bottles on the ground near the patios that stayed there for a few days. (Mainly bringing this is up as an environmental concern). read more

The hotel itself is a little dated. My room has a remodeled bathroom and kitchenette. The furniture has some stains on the cushions. Other than that the room is clean. The room has a nice patio facing the ocean. One huge drawback is the pool. It is a nice pool overlooking the sea. However the restaurant is at one end. This place is popular with the locals and the locals like to smoke. They can't smoke at the bar so they use the pool area as their smoking lounge. I took a swim this afternoon and the sat in a lounge chair to read. I was enjoying the ocean breeze until three people from the bar dragged plastic chairs to the end of the pool, up wind from me and started to smoke. Two more joined them and there was another few closer to the bar. They also had no problem throwing their buts into the water when they were done with each cigarette. Instead of nice seaside breeze, I got second hand smoke. So if you like swimming at an outdoor ashtray, this is the place for you. Sad because they seem to be trying at the hotel. Update at the end of the week: I spoke to the desk person and assistant manager about the cigarette butts at the pool. They acted quite concerned and ask that I e mail the assistant manager and manager the photos I showed them. The butts were never cleaned up, it just got worse. The pool is pretty much taken over by the restaurant and bar and smokers. You can't even get to the pool without weaving your way through the tables that are blocking the entrance to the pool. read more

If you're active - this is a great beach front resort ( and even if you like to just sit at the pool or relax on your beach front porch). A one minute walk from your home you can get Free kayaks to take out to a small private island about 15 minutes there and back - good snorkeling right outside your door, volleyball court and a beach with chair/ coverings. The pool is perfect for laps or to stand and chat type thing. Would recommend getting some food from seaside market incase Resturant is closed but over all incredible experience. Laid back, private and quiet. Would recommend exploring christensted and surrounding beaches if you have a car but you'll be happy to just stay here too. Bring water shoes for the ocean - it's got some harder rocks/ urchins and let's you get out quicker. You can't beat the views from the rooms ( they're all ocean front). read more

What a great place. Reasonable for a beach front. Rest right there. Rooms comfortable and clean. If there is a down fall. The room closest to the bar can be very very noisy at night and early in the morning as workers arrive and set up. Somehow, we were able to over look that. Next time we would ask to be a few places away. Best money for a beach stay!!! Oh and I have to say the Spa is great. Shannon, Ela and gang do a great job. The best massage in the world is there with Eila. I went twice in a week and wish I could have gone one more time before heading home. Hair, massage, nails. Their spa does it all. read more

I was with a party of 4 at Tamarind Reef from January 23-January 25, 2015 (weekend dates). The deals were about the same no matter where you found them, but we got them via Orbitz. First of all, if you want extensive reviews, Trip Advisor has a lot for this resort. Last I checked the resort was at 4 stars there as well. Actually, the reviews from Trip Advisor made me reserve this hotel. It was comparable to other good hotels available for my dates, such as the Palms. I went with it and here was my experience: The hotel is about a 30 minute ride from the airport through semi busy streets (no highways/freeways on the island). It's a chill ride up to the hotel, and the hotel grounds are accessible via a road that leads to the hotel and to the marine it shares some land with. Check in was flawless and we got our room keys right away. We asked for an upstairs room, which we had already been assigned to. We got two hotel cards/keys, and then we proceeded to ask some questions about the island/hotel. I would have liked and expected to have received more information up front about what the hotel offered, what to do, etc. I had to do a lot of the asking to the friendly lady at the front. Every question was politely answered, but I had to be the one who kept digging. I think they could improve the experience by giving you a better welcome and run-down on the things you can do at the hotel and perhaps in the area. For instance, they should say you can kayak, snorkel, paddle boat, tennis, exercise, get tikis at the beach, benches at the beach, volleyballs, etc. all included with your stay. We were also not told that we had two free drinks at the bar. They didn't do a good job of highlighting all of these things. The room itself (132) was nice and spacious. Had a closet and bathroom upon entering, and also a small fridge and microwave area with a coffeemaker. The kitchen area felt clean, coffee was provided, along with a bucket for ice, etc. The room was spacious, two queen beds with nice space between them, and a little lounge area by the balcony. The balcony was private with two chairs out there and a nice view into the carribean and also to the cay island and buck island. It was nice. The room is air conditioned and it worked well, and the beds were comfortable and felt clean. The room felt big enough to enjoy for a group of 4, which we were. The areas all were very clean: the tennis courts, the fitness center, the hallways, the grounds, the pool, they were all clean and looking great. You will often see the resort's workers outside walking around, cleaning the rooms or working the lands, etc. The workers were all very polite and nice. One of the gentlemen offered to drive me to the laundry area one morning because it is a good walk away. He gave me a ride on the golf cart and would also come around every now and then to see if I was done with my clothes. The laundry area could be bigger (only has 2 machines) as I had to wait for another couple to get done with their 2 loads. Laundry during vacation is not fun! A bigger area for laundry would be appreciated i am sure. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, which was clean, and the beach. The beach had a nice sandy area where you can lounge and you can get drinks at a shack they have on the beach. We also snorkeled right in front of their beach at their reef and it had very good snorkeling for the area, even according to locals. We saw a lot of fish just in that beach and they have floatables on the ocean to guide you through a snorkeling trail. This is a must. We also took a kayak out to cay island which took less than 15 minutes one way. You must do that. The workers at the shack were all very helpful with any gear that you ask to use. The kayaks take off right behind the shack and before you know it you're in the marina and then in the ocean. It was very seamless. The casual eating area called the East End Bar I believe it is always had nice service and decent American food (breakfast, brunch, lunch, etc). They also have entertainment there on nights or weekends so check the schedule. Everything about this hotel was satisfactory and I would visit again. One thing that we noticed in the room that the hotel needs to correct asap is that we killed about 3-5 roaches in the bathroom and in our room. There were little ones and also medium sized ones. They need to figure out this problem and deal with it because everything else, including the people working there, deserve a big applause for their service and for how they maintain the place. Wow, under the new ownership it's the best vacation ever! This is our second time staying here at this fantastic hotel. Every room has a view of the ocean, you open your window and sleep with the ocean crashing on the beach, The beds are so comfortable plus their kitchenette in most rooms, the restaurant and bar great has excellent food and drink! We entered room #29, 2nd floor, near the office, and found it was a lovely & large room with 2 comfy queen beds & table, a small couch & chair & low table, dresser, desk & chair, refrigerator and a large safe (it held a large laptop, a medium tablet, money, wallets, with room to spare -was tricky to work it) & a big closet. The bathroom was small but clean and updated. The sink had little room around it to put items, and the only place to put things was on the windowsill or toilet lid or under the sink. A towel rack for our 3 bath towels and a high small shelf for our beach towels was provided, but (suggestion) a small towel bar that could have been added on the side of the sink for hand towels was not there. The square shower stall had good water pressure with a temperature adjuster, and 2 small shelves, and a "clothesline" that was appreciated. Our balcony was on a deck with 3 other rooms, separated by canvas panels. The view of the ocean was partly blocked by palm trees, and there was no beach to see as we were on the edge of land that then dropped off below to a small sand area with rocks and then the water. However, we could walk down past a couple of other buildings to the pool, restaurant, volleyball court, and then a shallow beach with a sandy/shelly beach, and beyond that an entrance to deeper water for snorkeling beyond the shallow beach (separated by huge rocks). We stopped at the Beach Shack twice to ask questions; Brenda was very helpful & nice, as was the young guy working there the second day. We looked all over the island and didn't find a better hotel in this price range. I just now read the review by Jose, and I agree completely with him about the hotel NOT telling you about all the included activities and how to use them, you had to remember to walk down to the Beach Shack at the far east side of the property to ask. read more

First, the good news. The view from my room (29) is stunning as shown by the video I posted. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was spacious and clean. Internet access was fast and easy. The not so good news is that the facility needs to be better maintained. The controls for the window shutters were stripped, so I could not open them to let air in or avoid the wind tunnel effect of when I opened up the patio door. There was a strip missing from the bottom of the shower that caused the floor to be very wet when ever a shower was taken. There was a joke in the wall. Coffee cup and supplies were not replenished after the first day. Overall, not a bad place to stay but will shop around for other options before coming back here. read more

first, the positives. the rooms are large and very clean. the patio or balcony has beautiful ocean views. really nice, very large pool adjacent. the Galleon, a relatively high-end restaurant, was excellent. I noticed the hotel staff to be a tad argumentative with other guests about seemingly normal hotel requests. the poolside bar/restaurant service is spotty at best . also, they tend to run out of surprising things. during my week in residence, they ran out of french fries, bacon, bottled water 3 times, white wine(all types) twice. we have Moscato said our waitress. And twice the Capt. Morgan, which is made on the island, went missing. a Caribbean resort without rum, white wine, and bottled water seems to have managerial problems; just sayin'. the beach is nice enough, not exactly "white sands", but pretty much unswimmable due to rocks and undertow. bottom line, if you are "low maintenance"and in no hurry, like myself, it can be quite enjoyable, but it's not for everybody. read more
