Great place! I took my kids blueberry picking on Thursday, 7/13/23. Each person gets a bucket, you hop on the tractor pulled wagon, and head to the blueberry bushes. My kids 3 & 5 had a great time. The employees tell you the areas you are free to roam and pick. They have water coolers, which was helpful. We wore rain boots to keep our feet from getting muddy/sandy. Wear a hat, apply sunscreen and / or bug spray & pick until your heart is content. Once you get back from the field, you get your berries weighed, you pay & you're all set. They have bathrooms in the parking area, plenty of picnic tables, & accept credit cards for payment. read more

Absolutely horrible for Christmas trees. We go every year, knowing the trees are bare and grown too close together, yet we still always hold out hope to find a nice one. We spent an hour and a half driving through all the types of trees and gave up and went to another tree farm for the first time. read more

Way out about 60-70 miles from Chicago is a slice of life in the form of fresh berries that you pick yourself. In an age of packaged meals and concrete everywhere, a return to nature doing a task done by our ancestors for thousands of years is welcome. The act of picking berries is hard work. You don't dress up for it either. The blue stains on your clothes, the sweat, the occasional snags on branches will leave you dirty and wanting a shower afterwards. However, it is a rewarding experience. Lots of Eastern European immigrants are among the pickers. They bring entire families as this is a reminder of their homeland. You certainly feel for those migrant workers who gather our crops for dirt-poor wages so we can have our 99-cent berries in July at the local store. Here, you pick them for yourself and you get the fresh berries right from the source. An open wagon pulled by a tractor hauls out the pickers in groups, all with metal buckets in hand, and returns others from the field. You can spend hours working on the berries sometimes. I get about 8-9 pounds in an hour. My wife always out-picks me by about a pound, though. Berries cost about $1 per pound you pick. Being blueberry addicts, we can consume a 15-pound load in a weeks' time. Ice cream with blueberries, or mixed in yogurt, blueberry turnovers, or just eat them by the bowl-ful. Don't go here if you're in a hurry and need to get someplace later. This is an experience you need to enjoy without the worries of the daily rush on your mind. Berries are usually in season by the 1st or 2nd weekend of July. Picking goes on for about 3 weeks. The 1st pick is always the bigger and better time to come. By the last weekend, it's picked over and harder to get that bucket filled. read more

I am dreaming of going back ASAP. I've never been crazy about blueberries but after this I think I'm a blueberry addict. These blueberries were absolutely amazing! Insanely sweet, super plump, juicy and ripe. I really wish we picked more. We only brought home half a bucket full of blueberries. We ate most of them right away and I froze some to make desserts with. These were very hard to pick and our bucket never got full because we were eating them faster than we could pick them! I don't know how much we ate...but we ate a lot and we all had green poop the next day. read more

Been coming here since I was a baby. They posted on FB that there were "slim pickings" this year due to mother nature. Maybe slim pickings in their eyes but my gosh there were still a TON of trees. We actually went to another tree farm because of their post and quickly regretted it, left, and went to Tammen to find plenty of trees. Best tree farm around! Even at their "slimmest pickings" there are plenty of well shaped, amazing trees. Don't go anywhere else. read more

As an experience, this place is great. The berries are cheap and delicious and the picking process is fun. I'm originally from the area but I brought my girlfriend along and had a great time. Except... The place could use a little more organization. The checkout process is a nightmare when its crowded. We went midday on a Saturday and after picking for 45 minutes (12 pounds of berries) waited an hour and 40 minutes to pay (after having to walk back to the parking area because there were too many people to wait for a trailer). The line was massive when we left, stretching far farther than it had when we got into it, so those people must have been waiting even longer. They only have two registers and two scales, so everything gets all bunched up and also the way they drop people off makes it easier for cheaters to cut in line. What they need to do is send one of the many teenager workers sitting around down the line with a scale on a cart, weighing people while they are in line, so the payment process can move faster. Or just charge flat rates - $20 a bucket, $10 a half-bucket, ect. I would have been willing to pay 50 percent more to save that time. I don't mind a little wait, but nearly two hours in line just to pay (not to mention the understandable half-hour we waited just to get to the fields in the first place) is really quite ridiculous. read more

This farm is close to sub chicago area. It's about 50 min drive from my town. The blueberries there are awesome! Sweet and juicy. The picking activities are well organized so that it is not crowded per each picking row. The farm even prepares the fresh cool water for the people which is very considerate, when the temperature there could easily reaches 85 to 90 degrees. The price is very good. about 2 bucks per lb. So I came here last year in August ( when all the kids went back to school so it was less people) but now since covid is around i don't know how crowded it might get. Anyways I enjoyed my time here. As much as you may not want to hear this, your car will get muddy, I had to take mine to the car wash. The people working here are friendly and quite helpful. They do provide metal buckets for picking with a baggie inside but I chose to bring my own bucket which was plastic and easier to carry my blueberries. And off I went to pick them! There were so many, big ones, small ones, in giant groups, very plumpy that it made you want to eat them instead of picking them lol. The weather was nice in the morning then it got pretty warm, so it's great to bring a hat along unless you want to burn your head. I probably only saw one bee in the entire area I was in and then moved once my friend and I finished picking in one part of the area. They take cash and credit which makes my life simple since I dont carrying loose change and stuff. And the blueberries..if you eat one, you will automatically get addicted. They are nothing like the supermarket so be warned haha. FML read more

Our daughter had gone here blueberry picking with friends previously, so she called and wanted to drag da wife and I along this time. Little bit delayed getting into the field because of lotsa lightning, but once it passed, we were able to get a nice haul of berries before the weather drove us out. We paid for what we'd picked, went into town for a late breakfast, then came right back to pick more. Overall, we ended up with about 25 lbs of berries. The bushes were loaded, so it was pretty easy to get a good stash. That was just yesterday, and already we've made pancakes and bread with what we picked. The staff was very friendly, we bought some of their other stuff in jars, parking was easy, and they have a very nice operation. Look forward to going again. read more

The Christmas trees are garbage. Any size for $55 but it's almost impossible to find a nicely shaped one. The one we got was half dried out but it was the only one we could find with a nice shape. Please take some time to trim your trees so they're useable. This place is slowly going downhill. The trees are crap and the blueberries are way overgrown. read more

Abundant with large and ripe berries, to bad they don't allow you to pick them. Upon the tractor ride to the picking fields, we noticed that most all the rows were filled with clumps of berries, in fact, there was almost more green than blue on the bushes, but when we finally stopped at the rows we were instructed to pick, we were disappointed to find that our row was EXTREMELY picked over, with only a few berries, all that were quite small. We snuck over to the row across from us, and found the clumps of berries we spotted initially when walking in, in fact, most of the berries were mushy from sitting on the bush to long, eventually we were caught, and told to go back to the empty rows. It has been a good experience in the past, but it was extremely unintelligent for the teenagers running the program to not rotate the rows. In the future, Tammen berry tree farm, I advise you have some supervisors that are fit to watch and rotate the rows. read more
