So today I stopped by after not visiting the shop for probably close to 15 yrs as I just moved to the area. I wanted to get back into Gunpla and after looking at various stores at which I expected to find them (kinokuniya Portland & beaverton), I was surprised to find a whole aisle dedicated to them here. The selection wasn't amazing but they had a lot of high grade and a few master grade kits. They definitely had a great selection of tools. Unfortunately my kit was missing a piece, but after a brief phone call and a trip back, they graciously allowed me to exchange my kit for a new one. read more

A fantastic hobby store that goes out of their way to make sure that customers can find what they're looking for in somewhat obscure hobbies ( like gunpla) in addition to the more common ones. They also have a large selection of puzzles, miniatures, and 3D printing materials in addition to the usual RC car materials. Worth a visit, and even if you don't find something you want you're right across the street from the dessert tray. Nothing compliment to visit to Tammie's like a cookie. read more

I am very angry with them. They used to be the only store that carried high power rocket motors. Bad enough that they are letting their stock die out, but what makes me really angry is the time and gas they wasted because they could not be bothered to respond to me and let me know. Ignore any negative reviews about Tammie's. I've been going to Tammie's since I was 5 years old, and I'm approaching 40, and I'd be making my 6th trip there this week if not for Easter. It's a family-owned business with wonderful people working for them. Duane Sr. is a pillar of the community and Jr. has carried on his legacy. If you need any help, just ask, everyone there is friendly and knowledgeable. They can typically order anything you need as well and usually offer free shipping. Great hobby that had everything I was looking for when it came to plastic models. And tools.

I have been coming here once yearly on average over my life, usually to make fairly big purchases like RC kits. They are no doubt the biggest and have a great selection to go with. I probably would have gone more often if I lived closer but I don't. Their service has gotten lousy, even with the store empty I feel rushed out. At the first of any year they should know customers have gift cards/visas burning a hole in their pocket. My last visit in particular I knew I had some store credit to use and a gift card. I was told if I spend $18 I'd get $10 off my next purchase. I bought a lipo battery for $32, went back and found a small drone to buy and use my $10 off. Well... they wouldn't give it to me, apparently they cannot do math or keep their word. I decided against the drone and left mad. I see no reason to go back at this point, too far of a drive for lackluster service and shifty instore gimmicks. I can order anything they have and more online from other sites and save my gas, money and time for usually a better price. Sad part, I believe it was the owners who gave the disappointment. I see no reason to go back. You guys could do much better. read more

I spend entirely too much time at Tammie's. I'm pretty much a one trick pony when it comes to hobbies: I build and sail radio controlled model sailboats. More specifically, the little version called the Footy. I built my first boat from a kit, but that still involved many trips to Tammie's for glue, tools, paint, electronics, etc. My second boat (in progress) is a "from scratch" build. I found some plans on-line and purchased all of the materials (1/64" plywood, various shapes of basswood, aluminum and carbon fiber tubing, brass and stainless steel wire, etc., etc.), the vast majority of it at Tammie's. Tammie's doesn't specialize in sailboats - far from it. I guess the best thing you can say about Tammie's is that they don't specialize. Planes, trains and automobiles. And boats and helicopters. And so much more. If you have a hobby, check them out. I could spend an hour wandering the aisles on a day when I don't need a thing. They are pretty well staffed with friendly, knowledgeable folks. My only criticism (dock half a star, but round up) involves keeping up with stocking the shelves. It's quite deflating to MAX to Beaverton (Tammie's is a block from the Transit Center!) in need of a 0.188 hollow carbon fiber spar or a 3/32" stainless steel rod and find that particular bin empty (while those around it are well populated). Yes, both of these things have happened to me. I have forgiven them though. I'm probably off to Tammie's today for some tiny piece of brass hardware that I won't even attempt to describe. read more

Been going there since I moved to Beaveton 9 yars ago. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. They have a pretty decent selection of kits and supplies. I build mostly plastic airplane models and often need bits and pieces to scratch build many parts and they always have a great selection of plastic shapes and forms. Their supply section has been expanded and they now offer many of the new paints ans supplies from Europe. They also take Paypal and that's very convenient for me. I also like supporting local businesses and hobby shops are a dying breed. Tammies is great. read more

I probably wouldn't have ever went in here if it weren't for my husband being a hardcore model railroader and rc helicopter pilot. I leave him safely at the train counter and venture into their isles, which they do have a lot of stuff for everybody. Want a rock polisher, hello, there it is, want some kind of small craft project to keep the kids busy on the weekend, they have it. The prices are pretty reasonable too. I want to say, I was hovering over the 3 star because the guy at the train counter can be short with customers. I special ordered a train for my husband and he called me up and was really snippy that I had left it on the shelf for over two weeks. I pointed out, I thought this was the call it was finally in, since nobody bothered to call me and tell me it was in. He was quick to apologize, but really, really is that how you act when somebody drops over $200 on something. I stuck with the four star though, because you can't let one bad apple bring it all down, it is a great hobby shop. read more

I have bought a bit of stuff from the store. The help has been fantastic and the parts selection ok. I have had to revert to a few online items to get what I need, but most of the time the beginner items are there. There are a couple of individuals that are not happy to see customers. I fell like Im bothering them while they go about doing other duties. I dont always feel welcome when Im in need of some help. Someone needs to understand that If people are asking questions, they are willing to part with some money. Some items they say they dont have and there they are on the wall. I went back twice and the second time got what I needed. Yep, I parted with some money. First time the guy says, dont have it. Im going to start to buy more online in the future. To me, it's like the Powell's Books of hobby shops in Beaverton. Trains, planes, cars (both r/c and slot), model kits, and magazines among other things, a little bit of everything for everyone interested in hobby shop stuff. I used to be heavily into model railroading (could you guess from my pic? lol) when there was a layout at my grandparent's house, which consumed half their garage. It was a simple set-up, but definately the cat's meow. All the foundation pieces of the collection - track, electronic equipment, and most importantly, the trains themselves - were purchased at Tammie's. My grandpa set it up, and passed away when i was three, so besides a few photos of the two of us running toy trains, it was a good way for me to "carry the tradition of sorts." I was all about model trains - right up there with collecting Hot Wheels and baseball cards - until my grandmother passed away when I was 12 and we had to sell the home, thus disassembling the model railroad. But every Christmas, birthday, and maybe an "x-factor" holiday, like Valentine's Day or Easter (Grandma did a good job spoiling me lol) resulted in a trip to Tammie's to get some awesome, new locomotive or caboose, something fun to add to the collection, and the train itself! The staff was always friendly and knowledgeable, which was a real plus. We still have the trains and accessories sitting in the attic, waiting for someday when I've got time and space to resurrect the whole model train program. And while time-killing trips to Tammie's have been replaced by trips to Just Sports, I still owe this place a lot of gratitude for helping produce great memories in my childhood. read more

I really want to like this place, they've got a great selection of what I'm looking for most of the time. I just can't give them my business anymore unless I've got to have it today! Their staff is ridiculous, there is really only one person that works there that seams to care enough to ask open ended questions and make recommendations. That being the case, he's constantly engaged with other customers and rarely available, besides the fact that he has a side business in the hobby and spends a lot of time discussing it with customers. I've had it with the rest of the staff, manager/owner included. I know more than they do most of the time and on more than one occasion, have helped their customers for them. Their in-stock is a joke and if they have what I need they often don't have enough. Pretty easy fixes on most of their issues, but if the management doesn't care, then why should the employees. Like another reviewer said, I'll take my business online and will be sad, but unsurprised to see Tammies go in a few years. read more

John?) was super helpful, welding on some connections and helping us get the lay of the land. I went in to get a model kit. A gentleman helped me get the colors he acted like he knew what he was doing and picking out colors so i didnt second guess it. Got home opened everything up come to find out he didnt only forget colors but most of the colors were wrong so i had to drive 30 min back to the place to get the right colors. I do not suggest going here. I was very unhappy having to drive all the way back because the person helping me didnt read the colors properly. Yes i should of double checked but i think that if you work in a hobbie shop you should know what you are doing. read more

Love this store. I used to go when i was like 5 for rc cars and toy planes lol. Now 16 years later i go back cause i just got into tank modeling and its exactly the same. Well I'm a hobbies of over 8 years and love my RC cars. Well how can I say this for being the best reviewed hobby shop in the area there costumer service was horrible. I think when you would want customers you wouldn't treat them with disrespect. I own HPI Vehicles and when I went in to look for parts the guy laughed at me. Not very professional. Also you would think they would order a part or two when not in stock well nope didn't happen! I've been in many different hobby shops and would never go back to tammies hobbies even if my race season depended on it. Very bad costumer service. Horrible choices on parts. Only traxxas owners will be pleased. So if ya want to avoid the big city hobby shop feel don't go here. Hillsboro hobby is so much more help full! read more

Went to Tammie's Hobbies today on a visit back to my hometown of Beaverton. This is the place that got me started in RC and trains. Unfortunately, it was a trip down discrimination lane instead of memory lane. The one guy over at the R/C side were very courteous and attentive. However, the one person over at the train side completely ignored me while I was standing there for over 15 min (not even a glance). I went so far as to leaned over the counter, tapped my fingers, looked at my watch like 010 times in the last two minutes to generate even a nod of my existence.. In the middle of all this he asked the other "caucasian" person if he could be of any help but didn't bother to ask me. I don't think I had an invisible cloak or a sign on my back saying "I love bad customer service", or did I? This is all the while he's chatting up with another customer buying some $5 item. Discrimination? Possibly. Ignorance? Maybe. Terrible Customer service? Definitely. Tammie's train department you could had at least $100 of my business. More importantly, I wanted to support the dying breed of mom and pop hobby stores and to keep my childhood memories imprinted. Unfortunately, my train business will be given to an online retailer from this point on. As a silver lining in this unfortunate experience, I must give kudos to the R/C department for being very courteous and respectful, which saved the store from getting a two star. read more

I've been into this shop on a number of occasions and never had a good experience in the store. I have always felt, upon entering the shop, like the people there try very hard to go unnoticed and that the owner just wants me to buy something and not ask any questions. Any time I've needed help there I've had to traipse about the store looking for someone who always tells me to ask at the front counter. At the front counter I'm always waited on by a young girl who doesn't seem to know much about anything and on the last visit suggested I talk to the owner (if I could find him) The owner is not a friendly man (unless you are purchasing LOTS of RC Kits, then it would seem he's VERY helpful) I found him finally in one back corner of the store and asked him if the spray paint I was looking at was a priming paint? He said "Yes" and turned back to what he was doing. Turned out that not only was the paint NOT a priming paint but when I got it home the can began to leak...apparently it had sat on the shelf for a very long while. On another visit I asked at the front desk about a special panel lining marking pen for Gundum Models and was directed to a young guy at the back who seemed to be trying to go un-noticed. He pointed at an empty plastic sleeve that had been tacked to the end of the shelf and said "We're out of them". When I asked when they would be getting more I was directed to the owner. The owner says in a very off-handed way "We'll probably get more in a couple of weeks." My reply was 'So basically I have to check back?" His reply was "Yes". Against my better judgment I DID check back a couple of weeks later and they were still OUT of the pens...I haven't been back since. It really doesn't make sense to me that the owner wouldn't be more helpful to a customer who had taken time to come into his store. It also doesn't make sense that the other employees there wouldn't be better trained. I've decided to become a better customer at my local Hobby Shop: Hillsboro Hobby which is within walking distance of my house. read more

I really don't know what it is about this place but when I walk in, I never get greeted, asked if I have any questions or if I needed help with anything? I walk down the rc car aisle towards the drone area in the back and still no greeting or asked if I have any questions. This during the middle of the week with only 1 or 2 customers in the store, this includes me. It makes me wonder if its the color of my skin or my shaved head? Discrimination? Lack of customer service? I don't know. All I know is I ask myself "why did I even walk in there for." I always tell myself you should have gone to HILLSBORO HOBBY SHOP, where I'm always greeted and asked if I have any questions or can I help you with anything? Its out of the way but worth the trip.
