Oh, I don't go inside, I wait in the car scrolling my socials and taking selfies and then ooh and ah over his purchases while he explains refractors and grading and colors and bits of bats or jerseys. I'm sure he says other stuff...The Sportsroom has had a few different owners and the latest has been there for over a year. After taking a long break between owners, we're back to visiting about every week. I'd give this place zero stars -- or negative stars if that were possible. I was traveling across the country and stopped by hoping to make a deal. One of the older employees wrote numbers on sticky notes and placed them on my cards. He offered me $600 for a stack worth around $1,000, so I politely declined. Immediately after, he aggressively ripped the sticky notes off my cards, walked away, and completely ignored me. He didn't say another word or even look at me. On my way out, I still said "thanks," but got no response. It's sad to see people like this representing the hobby. If you're looking to trade cards or buy boxes, I'd recommend going somewhere else. Hoody's, 1 Stop, and Orb all have much better customer service than this place. This business does not deserve your cards or your money. read more

Never have I heard my boyfriend get genuinely upset over the way someone treated him until this experience. He went into the shop hoping to sell some of his sports cards, and the employee wrote down offer amounts on a sticky note. My boyfriend politely declined and said, "That's too low for me, but thank you anyway." Instead of responding professionally, the employee ripped up the offer sheet right in front of him without saying a word and walked away. No courtesy, no customer service, and no basic human decency. We've now been here twice, and after this experience, we will not be returning. I'd recommend thinking twice before supporting this establishment. read more

I understand why this is the oldest sports card spot in Oregon. Very knowledgeable helpful and they now have a customer for life!!!! Wow! I'm shocked at the selection. There are great sports cards everywhere. There was a huge card show last week, so they were still sorting. The prices are very reasonable. The guys who run the store were super nice. My 7 year old son kept asking question after question. They were super nice and friendly to him. I've been collecting sports cards for 35 years and my family enjoys visiting local card shops in the area when we're on vacation. I came to this card shop with my wife and 10 year old son. There was a guy standing at the cash register when we entered. He didn't say a word to us at all. There was another family there (father and boys).. when the father asked the worker about grading cards, his response back sounded condescending and unfriendly. I'm sure the father was just trying to make conversation while his boys were looking at cards. The worker never said a word to our son while he was looking around. All the other card shops made sure they greeted our son and asked him what he collected. The next time we visit the area, I'll be sure to remove this location off my list of card shops to visit. read more

This place is pretty fantastic. The person at the front counter is very knowledgeable and helpful. I drive a minimum of 30 min each way to come with my step son who is obsessed with card collecting right now. Penny sleeves for a $1.00 and top loaders for $2.50. You can't go wrong. It's in this nice littlr strip mall in Beaverton. They have a good variety of unopened packs and a lot of older cards both graded and not graded. They have other memorabilia as well, such as signed photographs and jerseys. I can't recommend this place enough. read more

I went to the Sportsroom in late November. I had ~250 cards I was looking to trade in that were all parallels or rookies plus about 10 autos. I moved to Portland about a year ago but hadn't found a local card shop yet, and I was excited to meet Chris and hopefully build a lasting relationship with him. Chris looked through my stack and wanted 8 of the 250 cards. I asked him about lots of players I'm interested in, and he was really just not interested in talking with me or helping me find any of those players in his shop. I mentioned constantly that I wanted to build a relationship, come back often, hoping that he'd be willing to help me - but he never was. It's also not like it was super busy, the entire hour I was there, at max there were 3 people. I found a few cards I wanted on my own and spent $150 on them. I asked him if he lets customers know if he gets certain players and he said "you can email me". I emailed him an extensive list of players I collect. It's now been 2 months and he didn't even respond with something like "got it Matt, I'll let you know". Just no response. I'm sure I'll never hear from him. The benefit of the sports room is its location if you just want a close LCS. But - if you are new and looking to build a relationship for consistent business, Chris is not your guy. read more

During the middle of Covid, I visited this place with my Mom and came to see that none of the employees were wearing masks. They have a good selection, but many of the packs and boxes were overpriced. Before visiting, I gave them a call to ask them about a certain card and the employee (possibly the owner) wasn't very polite on the phone. I would recommend this place as a one time visit unless you have a different experience than I did then maybe come back. read more

My wife and I just moved to the Portland area two weeks ago, and to celebrate the St. Louis blues Stanley Cup victory we stopped in here yesterday to buy some cards. We ended up buying three boxes of cards, an amazing autographed poster from the movie Casino, Brett Hull figurine, and a Lou Brock autographed jersey. Absolutely amazing stuff, Chris is super nice. Really a local treasure. The store is well kept and the owner is one of the most genuine sincere guys out there. The store has tons of new releases and even gets some cool throwback boxes you would've thought would be open by now. Some people might bitch about the prices, but hey, you're coming to a brick and mortar. Sure some prices online might be lower, but once you factor in shipping and the fact that the box will be bouncing around the back of a UPS for a few days, you pretty much aren't saving any dough. While there is a fair selection of memerobilia I found the new owner extremely off putting and rude! I have been bringing my kids to that shop for 18 plus years and enjoyed a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service with each owner. I really got hooked starting with the 2003/04 Lebrons rookie season. Anyway stopped in to see the store and thinking about getting back into the card game so I introduced myself and let the new owner (Chris Tinder) as I found out. I found Chris to be initially abrasive and curt! He seemed bothered by my questions, which I assure you, were simply designed to draw myself into a purchase mode. There was only one other man in the shop and he was going through cards so I know I wasn't holding his attention. Needless to say I'm not going to give a bunch of nasty details but I would never go in that store again! The owner is unfriendly and irritable, his prices are absurdly high and he resents any form of information exchange so do t bring your little ones in and expose them to this guy! read more

The owner Rick definitely understands what makes up good customer service. My mother and I were shopping with my son who is 2 years old for stocking stuffers for Xmas (I know it's early but that's the way my mother has always been). While shopping for some loose packs, and before I could pick out a pack for him, Rick quietly handed me a free pack and told me that it was on the house for my son's first stocking stuffer and hoped it would make it a good one. I realize the pack is probably only a couple bucks, but that kind of kind gesture is really nice, and not something I ever expected out of him. Not sure on how to write up a fair star-rating for this place. On the one hand, the owners/operators are very nice, and try their best to find you what you need, or just leave you alone to browse what they have, if that's what you want. They're great in that regard. So 5 stars there. On the other hand, while they have a large selection of new and old cards, they are horribly overpriced. Maybe I'm spoiled having a large sports card show near me once a week that offers cards at low prices, but the hobby boxes in here are at least 40-50% higher than you'd find online. I know for a fact that boxes that you can buy for $40 and $50 online were selling for $70 and $80 in here. Sure, I realize that there's more overhead involved in having a store than selling online, but when you can buy almost 2 boxes online for the price of 1 box here, that's more markup than I can bear. So 1 star there. So overall, I say 3 stars. I don't know how else to rate this place. read more

I came into the shop looking to sell X2 Authentic 1998 autographed Utah Jazz Basketball (in very high quality glass cases) both signed by the entire roster of the team. We are talking players like John Stockton, Karl Malone, Greg Ostertag, Bryon Russell, Jeff Hornacek, etc. When I first walked into this shop it seemed promising based off the interior visual appearance and how many different memorabilia products around. Although, the smell when walking in was pretty nasty to the point where I couldn't event stand looking around anymore. I had them authenticate my basketball through an amazing company JSA before selling them in which he didn't even have me sign an official contract or release form stating that he had taken them for authenticating. We had to request him to write on a plain piece of paper with his signature, very unprofessional if you ask me, especially with high dollar items. After he had the authenticator confirm that my basketballs were authentic I drove back down after doing heavy research on my specific item and calling around other places who had the same exact item as mine authenticated through the same authentication company JSA to figure out where my offer should be at, which I would have been happy to settle around $2000.00 a ball. He started the bidding at no more than $300 per ball. EXTREMELY SHOCKED! If he did his research in todays market he would have known that John Stockton's signature on a ball starts at $650 and Karl Malone's signature on a ball even more. So how he thought $300.00 a ball was reasonable I find absolutely shocking and all he could tell me was the Utah Jazz is not local though and it's not authenticated through Upper Deck. I instantly declined the offer and very upset I wasted many long drives and time at his shop, so I paid him for the JSA authentication which was $180.00 out of my own pocket, so I would have only technically pocketed $210 per ball if I sold them to him. After leaving I contacted JSA to figure out what the owner meant that my basketballs weren't authenticated through Upper Deck which is why their value isn't more than JSA's. In kind words I had x4 different JSA representitives over the phone tell me that he is blowing smoke out of his rear end and Upper Deck doesn't authenticate team signature basketballs like mine and couldn't possibly happen. They also took me to the direct link of in todays market my basketballs are being sold for here http://www.sportsmemorabilia.com/sports-products/karl-malonejohn-stockton-97-98-utah-jazz-team-jsaletter-signed-game-basketball.html I then called Upper Deck and confirmed that they don't authenticate team autographed basketballs like mine and what the owner said is not true. So with that all being said the owner obviously did no research prior to me coming down to sell my items to him, he completely tried to low ball me with a "taking advantage" of an offer, tried to cover up his offer by saying JSA's authentication value means nothing to an Upper Deck authentication when they don't even authenticate team autographed basketballs like mine and couldn't even if I tried. So his only true reason is these utah jazz basketballs aren't local to his area but after finding out what they sell in todays online market which is $2500+. I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND that no one should support this business. Super unprofessional, sketchy, the owner obviously doesn't do his research. All in all, a big waste of my time and money. By the way, JSA was not happy to hear when I told them about this situation and wouldn't be surprised if they drop you as your authenticator for your shop for trying to mislead your customers about the value of a JSA authentication. Especially based off my specific item. read more
